View Full Version : Model of the year!

Welcome back to the Biante forums.

With the forums being offline for so long I thought to get the ball rolling and some discussion going on I would start up this thread.

What was your number one diecast model released last year?. The brand or scale doesn't matter, but which model really stood out last year, one that you had to get into your collection, and why?. Because of the detail, price, attachment to the real car, any reason at all.

There were so many truly great models released last year so I am sure there will be some different answers so don't be shy, let us know.

Thanks.

Richard from Biante.

Hi Trevor, Bev, Richard and Team,

The new site looks great, The Biante team always seems to impress me. My must have models for 2001 was the A9X Torana and the new CV8 Monaro's. Can't wait until more Brock cars are released, also Keep them Austalian Muscle cars coming especially the Holdens. I would love to see the Brock road cars, VU SS ute's modelled one day and more HSV's and older Monaro's / Sandman Van's & ute's. Congratulations once again on a job well done.

Regards, Jason

First of all let me say that the team at Biante have outdone themselves yet again. Congratulations on a vastly improved site and it's great to see the discussion forum back. Lets hope that the discussions can be kept at a civil level so that it will be enjoyed and used by all.

As far as the best model for 2001, my pick would have to be Dick Johnson's 'Palmer Tube Mills' green Falcon, followed closely by the 'Grice/Percy' Commodore. There's nothing better than having a piece of history on display. Keep those older cars coming.

As ever, a dedicated collector

Great job all round guys. Good to see you getting some media exposure & it must have been a real buzz being involved with the Monaro. Although Im a "Holden man" My Favourite would have to be Moffats Federation insurance coupe. When the car was being taken off the track and they had an interview with moffat, you could tell that his cars realy meant something to him. The presentation of his cars already showed that, but to see the sadness in his face took it one step further. But I do like my A9X a lot too.

I think the A9X was a great car too, I also thought the number plate made a nice touch. I can't wait for the 1:18 Chargers to start to appear.

Hi all,

I'd like to say that the "A9X GMH" number plates were a Sensational finishing touch to the A9X.
I must say I was hoping that the L34 had "L34 GMH" plates, But maybe they could be made for the people who would like to put them on their Chrome Yellow L34's and include them on the Barbados Green version.
In my opinion personalised plates that say something about what the car is, is a great idea, as people who see them in your collection can see that it is a special variant of the marque, and it is just a great finishing touch.
plates that I would like to see would be :

GTR XU1
COUPE
XB GT
XW 351 or XW GTHO
XY 351 or GT 351 or XY GTHO
COBRA
HK GTS or HK 327
HT GTS or HT 350
HG GTS or HG 350 etc,
as long as it explains something of the vehicle's pedigree.

Let me know what you think ?

Cheers, Jason

I agree its a good idea, but there is a slight problem with doing this. Whereas I own the A9X GMH numberplate, if I put out a model with say GTHO, then whoever owns that plate can legally have a go at us!
Maybe we put a Company logo in front and then no-one will own the plate as it wouldn't be available anyway.
What do you think....a Ford oval followed by XW GT or whatever?
The engineers will be here doing reasearch on Tuesday, so I will put it to them.

Hi,

Yes that sounds good David, by using the logo of Ford or Holden or whatever infront or in the middle of the plates would look great and would get around the problem. I think it would be an honour for most people to have a model of their car with the matching plates anyway.

To all the gang at Biante

Congrats on a top new site

Hands down the Best car for 2001 was the Greens Tuf XE falcon and I already think that the Lowndes Green Eyed Monster will be the model of 2002.

I think either the A9X Torana for the road cars and the GRM Lowndes Falcon for the racing cars are the stand out cars for the year.

Sorry, but can't see how any one could pick the greens tuf XE, as a long time fan of Dick Johnson i can't get past the way the rear tires sit to far into the rear gaurds.
p.s. I see that the XD falcons have the same problem, can you guys at Biante PLEASE fix this before you release what is the most eagerly awaited car yet.

Well i would have to say that in the Sportscar ranks for model of the year. In 1:43 and 1:18 there would be trouble figureing out which is better the Minichamps 917/20(Pink Pig) or the Minichamps 917/30.

The real OZ GP

Gonna have to nominate two different models(sort of ) in defference to our hosts I would nominate either of the two Lowndes Falcons in 1/18 as my favorite cars from Taxi racing.

However My outright Model of last year is the Exoto twin pack of Lauda and Villeneuve , these things are stunning and I can't afford a BBR F-1 2000 so they will do me quite nicely.

I was just having a look at the Product list of what has been released this year, and have to say it has been a quiet year on the 1:18 front. Biante have really concentrated on 1:64 and 1:43 this year.

But out of the 1:18s I have purchased this year, from Biante I really like the Monaco Maroon GTS Monaro, but my favourite purchase in 1:18 this year was the PRODRIVE Subaru Impreza WRC of Tommi Makinen in the Rally of Germany with the drivers inside.

For sentimental reasons, but one I decided not to purchase, would be the Possum model for Model of the Year.

My favourites would have to be the Gronholm Peugeot, Bond and Brock Monaros and the K-Mart Commodores.

My choice for this year is Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Competizione #64 1971 24Hrs of Daytona by Kyosho. Although, this is the model that makes me cry. This is the only decent Ferrari diecast in 1:18 scale period. It simply amazes me that one of the most recognizable brand names in the world has such poor "diecast representation" in 1:18 scale.

I've been giving this some thought, and my winner (based on my personal collection) is...the Autoart 2002 Rally NZ Gronholm Peugeot...absolutely beautiful detail...even if it needs some mud-flaps to finish it off!

My Biante model of the year is the only road car in my collection...the Monaco Maroon GTS Monaro...while second place goes to the yellow Historics Monaro (for it's shear sex-appeal alone!).

Sorry to say but there are a fair few more in the KYOSHO brand 1/18 ferrari's 512BB 365 BB, 308 GTS,365GTB/4 and more.
Some of the Hotwheels were done by KYOSHO ,like the California and the 550 Barchetta.
I do agree that you can see the difference almost straight away.
I have way in excess of a few of the FERRARI 1/18 models.

My pick for the year is a model I swore I wouldn't buy, however I did buy it 'cause it looked so bloody great...........

If the Bond/Harvey car from Bathurst 76 is ever released it will be a must have, as it will make me feel better about buying the Morris car.............;)

i got this pair in 1:18 and i was just thrilled until i saw the 917/30 from exoto with extra chassis for display and that just took the prize i think.

2 pieces of bad news with those exotos tho...
i was hoping to get the sauber c9 lemans winner with spare chassis too but i am told its not coming to australia and further to that they have released the 917/30 without spare chassis as well and discounted the price.
(before they retired the 917/30 with extra chassis they increased their website price to US$700 and i now see they have it relisted at US$500 in dinosaur mode.
they do make a great model but their practices are questionable at times

I agree, I too would like to know.
Everyone has their personal favourites.

It could be an admin favourite for its technical brilliance and sophistication, or it could be for the emotional value (Possum Bourne, hands down).

So, we have revealed our favourites. What do those who actually make and distribute the models pick as theirs?

My 2 favourites of the cars relesaed in 2003 would have to be :

I'd have to vote for the CC Chargers, because the detail and quality is absolutely amazing especially for the price, and as a Mopar fan we've had to wait far too long for a 1/18 Australian Chrysler model. Ford & Holden 1/18 models seem to be almost as common as the real things out on the road now...

Without a doubt for me it would have to be the Exoto Sauber/Mercedes C9 in both Kouros and Michelin liveries and I have a example of both in my collection, those Sauber/Mercedes are just a work of art. in the Aussie Cars side of things it would be Classics XT GT and from the Biante stable it would be Brocks A9X (cant believe I said that).

i would have to agree with steve on those mercedes they are works of art. from the states its been a good year also we have had some great new muscle cars. from lane exact detail series the 1970 s/s 454 ls6 chevelle, 1967 gt350 shelby mustang and two 1968 gt500 shelby mustangs. hiway61 has had some great offerings as well from the 42.00 to 64.99 range models. with such detail for the money the new lines of 1964 dodge 330's 1968 dodge darts, 1968 plymouth barracudas, 1967 dodge coronet r/t
1970 boss mustangs. gmp had a few gto's the malco gasser mustang drag car, and the awesome 427 fairlanes. from austrailia
some of my favorites are the biante 1978 brock A9X, and 1973 moffat xa falcon. from classics the xr, xt gt falcon range, 2002 427 monaro and the 1969 bob jane camaro. and alot of other highly notiable cars from both companys like the new ba falcons, valencia orange torana, utes, i cant wait to see what 2005 will bring, but i know my credit card can.:D

Back on topic, I'd have to agree that the 78 Brock A9X takes the Biante cake, although I do like the Harvey 76 ATCC L34 as well.

Classics-wise the 24 hour Monaro that arrived today is pretty hard to top, but I'd also like to see the Bob Jane Camaro (on order), and I also thought some of the V8Supercars came up nicely as well (namely Team Dynamik VY and Pirtek & FPR BA's).

I think the Dick Johnson 'Rock' car and the Brock Sierra were the first Biante models of 2004. From memory, they both appeared on the CD, but weren't released until January.

BTW, the 'model of the year' doesn't have to be the most detailed or best looking. It could also be the model that had the biggest impact.

For me it's without a doubt the Brock A9X. Firstly because it represents the best years of racing in my humble opinion, its the second most anticipated model in my Brock collection ( Please Admin bring on the dayglo VK). It is a close call so I will not split them From Biante the Brock A9X and the Brock/Skaife VS HRT 97 car.
Form Classics it is the Just Cars Monaro and the Bob Jane Camaro.
All of these cars are works of art and both companies should be congratulated on the quality.
May we see more Quality Aussie cars from both companies for years to come.

Well for me even though they were not made this year, i did add them to my collection this year.

The CMC Mercedes Transporter and the CMC Mercedes W196 Monoposto that i have tethered to the tray. Absolutley sensational models.

These 2 (so far!!) have that "feel" about them when admired by me in my cabinets. I shall be getting a lot more of the CMC product in future (i hope).

Then through the Exoto's (Martini #3 935) and (Sauber-Mercedes C9 - Kouros YSL) and the Ford GT40 Prototype in black.

Oh...sorry that's more than 1...too bad.

Keep up the good work - model manufacturers.:)
