Aren't the V8's at Barbagallo this weekend in WA? I wouldn't think so looking at our Forum:D Nothing on here (well the first page that is) from our Westie mates.
Who's going, who's not, wish I was there. Guess all the teams are there already, ready to go.
Don't forget finishline comp, like I did last week:mad:

After making the trek west for the round last year (and having an absolute ball I might add) I will have to make do with watching from the comfort of my lounge room this year.
I would love to go, but Rally Australia beckons!

I'll be there friday and sunday...They are predicting rain for friday , saturday, fine on sunday..It could make pics for finishline interesting...I took a punt and picked up grandstand tickets for friday in the hope i'll make it home with a dry butt...Looking good so far...but knowing my luck there will only be one leak in the roof and that will be directly above my seat...

Wouldn't miss it for quids! I'll be there from before sunrise until after dark on both Saturday & Sunday. Helping crew for one of the guys in the Historic Tourers, but hopefully will still get a chance to catch most of the other action as well.
We're selling the tickets for the event at work, and Friday is our biggest sales day so no chance of calling in sick that day!
Both Paul Radisich & Max Wilson called into the shop today. Paul is a regular visitor when in Perth, while Max bought an Isle of Man TT dvd. Maybe he's thinking of a career change!;)
but knowing my luck there will only be one leak in the roof and that will be directly above my seat...
Sorry VT, all the grandstands are temporary ones so they are uncovered. At least if you're gonna get wet everyone else is gonna get wet as well, so you won't be alone!:D

Work at Pitstop Bookshop (http://www.pitstop.net.au)
For the three days (including pits) you're looking at an even $100.

If the last couple of days are anything to go by then yes, it's going to be busy, with Friday busier still.
Looks like it should be a big crowd for the weekend, hopefully the weather will be half reasonable. Although we've been pretty lucky with the weather the last few years so maybe we're due a wet one...

i dont remember there being a roof on any of the grandstands last year, but there has been quite a bit of work up there so anything is possible, there has even been another grandstand added (the garth tander stand) as for me, ill be gettin wet on the biante esses :)
I have this feeling racing will be extra special this round!
http://www.v8supercar.com.au/news/latestnews/newsd isplay.asp?Ind=M&gid=11216
"Ambrose was cleared by stewards in what was deemed a racing incident, but Skaife reminded the Ford driver that "every dog has its day" and said Ambrose should be looking over his shoulder in the fifth round of the V8 Supercar series, at Barbagallo Raceway at the weekend."
"If I was Marcos I'd be having a bit of a look in the mirror," Skaife said. "In my championship position, I can afford to take more risks.
"So, if those sorts of manoeuvres are on and that's how we're going to play, stand back, because we're in for some fun."
Skaifey, show em how its done!!

If it's the same seat I'm thinking of (last 3-day should be Block L, Row F from memory) it's a good one. As you say it's right on the start/finish line. That seat was originally earmarked for the guy that designed the tickets but he could only go Saturday so we shifted him further down the stand! As it's a single seat we had a hell of a lot of trouble allocating it as everyone wanted multiple seats... :D

For those going on the weekend, take your wet weather gear...Occasional showers should continue on Friday. Saturday should be showery and very windy as another front moves through during the morning, though conditions should moderate in the afternoon. An early shower on Sunday should clear as a ridge develops over Perth.
Updates from the weather bureau (http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/wa/forecasts.shtml)

Sorry but there are no roof's on any of the Grandstands
Next year you might want to look at getting a Membership of the WASCC. Our members area is in the Club house to the right of the stand you are in and membership gets you into the clubhouse and entry to all race meetings.
Membership for you and apatner is less than $300 per year and for a small fee you can use the track on Club Tuning days to take your car out for a spin.
The club House is great on V8 Weekend as we have Bar at Members prices, an all day BBQ, big screens, timing monitors, race car simulators etc etc etc.
I host the Members area every year and gets bigger every year (and we also crank it up for the Truck Meeting )
Well worth looking into

Anyone know if Murph's in this years car or the mountain winner?
I'd read somewhere they'd pulled the car out at their last testing day at the Island but, I weren't sure why?
If he's in the mountain winner I'd stay in it if it's got something to do with why he's half a sec quicker than everyone else!
BTW, why are they allowed to test at the Island if the track is "un-safe" (wank, wank, wank)?

He is in the Bathurst winner it's Rocket!!! Correct me if I am wrong but that is the same car (different colour) that won Bathurst in 2002 with Skaife & Richo, as iread in the Bathurst 2003 year book which has all the history of all cars when made, how old ect.

Look foward to seeing them Mux, hope Admin is in tonight, but I suspect there is a function over your way.
This from the V8 site, pretty long read:
Murphy pulls out old faithful to top session
Release Date: 11/06/2004
Greg Murphy stepped back into the car that won Bathurst last year in an attempt to gain some more speed with immediate results at the fifth round of the V8 Supercar Cahmpionship Series at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth today.
Murphy topped the opening practice session in Perth by more than half a second from Steve Richards and Mark Skaife, with reigning Champion Marcos Ambrose way down in 21st spot.
Recently resurfaced, the quickest times were more than three seconds a lap quicker than at the same stage of the meeting last year, with Murphy estimating his quickest lap today will be thereabouts for pole tomorrow after bolting a new set of tyres on the car.
Thirty of the 32 cars on the track were quicker than the previous lap record even though the session started with rain.
“I didn’t think it would be that quick, Murphy said after the session. “It feels really smooth and its got good grip, but if you get off-line you can feel a huge grip difference. There will definitely be one fast line for the race.
“We put a fresh set of tyres on just to see where we were at, you go hard whenever you put a new set of tyres on, but it wasn’t quite a qualifying lap – it was tidy and there weren’t many mistakes and the car was working well.
“I think, looking at that, it will be a mid-55 or better for pole.
New Championship leader Steven Richards was top dog for most of the session, only losing the first day honours to Murphy in the closing minute of the twice red-flagged session.
Richards said with the new surface it was important to be on the pace right from the minute the cars hit the track.
“I think this circuit was going to be a case of whoever rolled it out of the truck well was going to be the fastest, Richards said. “It is nice to be competitive in the first session because that is what we are here to do.
Richards said he ran the entire session on one set of tyres, and that his times was perhaps more indicative of the speed of the new surface than Murphy on green tyres, Richards topped this session last year with a quick lap of 58.8518s and this year improved by more than 2.6 seconds to set a best of 56.2231s.
Skaife in third agreed. “You need to compare Richards to Richards to get a fair comparison, I thought Greg’s time compared with we were at is close to a qualifying time – mid to low 55s maybe.
After a troubled start to the year and seemingly already out of Championship contention, Skaife said it was a just a case of head down and tail up for the HRT.
“It wasn’t any bigger struggled than normal, especially given that we were running in half wet at the start and you don’t learn anything from that.
Jason Bright was fourth fastest after setting his quickest time near the end of the session, Paul Morris in fifth set his time earlier in the session after sitting idle with a broken alternator.
Sixth was Steve Johnson, with Garth Tander, Todd Kelly, Max Wilson and John Bowe rounding out the top 10.
Marcos Ambrose was way down in 21st spot 1.3 seconds slower than Murphy and with a big gap to breach before qualifying tomorrow. Teammate Russell Ingall was not much better, celebrating his 100th V8 Supercar round with 12th spot.
The session was red flagged twice, the first for a stranded Jason Richards who speared into the sand at Kolb Corner down the back of the track (he later finished the session in the same spot after a second spin) and the second for a combinations of Todd Kelly and Steve Ellery.
Kelly landed in the sand at the end of the long straight, while Ellery blocked the entrance to pit lane after breaking his steering after contact with Mark Noske.
Tomorrow sees a full day at Barbagallo Raceway with practice, qualifying, a top 10 shootout and the first of three races for the weekend.

Anybody hear or see how this went today?:
As an added attraction for the fans, Biante are pleased to, with the support of Avesco and the WASCC, put on the "Champions Challenge", featuring Mark Skaife in #2 Holden Torana XU-1 and John Bowe in #12 XY GTHO Falcon.
This will be run over 3 three lap races, one each day and neither is fooling around and we could see a 'mini' Bathurst as each car has its own parts of the track which suits it. Plus it will possibly be raining/pouring so ........ Please don't bend them fellas!!
Cheers

I might be wrong (hope I am in this case), but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
In my experience the organisers of circuit racing in general, and particularly when the V8 circus is in town, are real sticklers for keeping to a strict time schedule, and once a race is 'lost' it doesn't normally get added in later.
All the events are planned to happen at a certain time (right down to the minute) and if they start running behind time they just 'drop' events (particularly the 'lower' level of support category) and they generally don't get re-scheduled. :(

In my opinion Skaife is showing extremely poor sportsmanship. I watched the incident & saw nothing wrong with what Ambrose did and apparently the Stewards saw it the same way. It seems to me that Skaife is letting the pressure of team ownership get to him the same way he did when he was in the Gibson organisation.:( We should all remember it is a sport, however many $ you put into it. Perhaps Skaife should engage a full time driver and concentrate on the pressures of team ownership. You can't be a winner all the time & HRT has had more than its share of wins. Sometime at the cost of others but I haven't heard as much whining out of them as I've heard out of Skaife

what ambrose... from P21 to 3rd.....
lookout tomorrow you holden boys..
and what about poor old Stevie Richards, even thoguh he is a holden driver, why the hell Mark Skaife was not penalised for that movve on him, clearly moved into his line...
as i said before he is quick to whinge and ***** and moan when someone does it to him, but is ok for him to do the same...
pity brighty's tap up the arse didn't flick him off in the final stages
Ambrose's tyres would have taken a beating in doing that though, Rob. I doub't he'll be able to sustain his pace end of race 2, and race 3.
Also, it was very clear what happened with the skaife/richards incident. Skaife moved slightly over, very little, and locked his brakes. Back end swung out, clipped richards and the rest..well, unlucky for richards. This was well and truely a racing incident. Brighty should of backed off a bit, he obviously wasn't going to gain anything.

Not true on any point I had agood look at His tyres after the race and they are are in very good nick. The new surface is very kind on the rubber and thats from personal experiance.
I'ts more likley the two in front will be more second hand.
Regarding your second point, as a CAMS licenenced driver, instructor and Driving Standards observer, Bondy got it wrong. the only thing that may have saved Skaife is that the victim in the end was a third party was brought undun because of the involment of a third party (Bright)
Was Skaife to blame? Yes.

No mate, I had my Dale Earnhardt Jr Budweiser cap on today.
Enjoy tomorrow Dude.
moffat fan, i completely disagree with you. No one was at fault, although if i had to lay the blame, i would say brighty. If he had just held back a little bit, settled with third and had a crack later, skaife still would have hit richards, but richards would not have then hit bright.
Skaife's back end flicked out, (and yes, i had my information wrong, he did not lock the brakes) this happens so often. If it wasn't three wide down Tait straight, i'm almost 100% sure it would not have ended Richards' race.

I am more of a Skaife fan than a Steve Richards fan, but I've got to say if anyone was to blame it was Skaife.
He moved over and hit Richards, who was pushed onto Bright and spun. I can't see how any blame can be apportioned to Bright, as he was the one that was run into! While I don't believe he (Bright) would have ever made a successful pass down the outside into that turn, to say that he was at fault just for being there is a bit harsh in my opinion.
What a drive from Ambrose! 21st to 3rd, and he was (slowly) pegging back the two in front as well. Roll on tomorrow.
Suppose I'd better go and get some sleep as it's going to be a very early start in the morning...

Great weekend. The worst of the nasty weather held off and top class racing in all categories, not just V8 Supercars. Make sure you catch Trackside for the footage of both the Biante Historic Tourers and the Lotus Elises (especially the last race).
Highlights were Ambrose's drive from 21st to 3rd in race one, Steve Richards drive from the back of the grid to 6th in race two and Weel's drive from 15th to 5th in race three, and Bright's overall win as well!

Top race.
PWR are Bright are well in contention to be V8 supercar champions. Every race they are quick and consistant.
Last year Ambrose and SBR were in a leugue of their own, this year alot of teams, mainly Holden teams have step up and may I say, starting to overtake SBR,Ambrose seems to be always the 3rd or 4th quickest car he is not "on it" like he was last year!
From now on SBR may have to be consistant and acumilate as many points as possible.
Next round, QLD raceway SBR test track. It should be very interesting, I hope its a SBR 1-2 !
well done Bowe and Ellery.
...and I don't even want to talk about FPR !!...

Looking at lap times this year and last year from all rounds, every holden teams I mentioned have stepped up, no doubt about that! As I said Ambrose car is about the 3rd or4th quickest car out there at the moment, SBR did loose some technical staff this year that may affect them, as with the same tocken, with the help of k Little 888 racing always popps up in the top 10 but reliabilty and driver errors have let them down.
Either way, he hasn't got the car speed of the others its clearly starting to show.
But a win would be a great injection in to the SBR stable at QLD.

although i left staright after the last V8's race..was buggered...
unfortunately didn't catch up with any forum members, maybe next year..
brighty's car was damn quick, lets hope though some signs of bowie getting some car speed in there can be another ford driver up there competing instead of leaving it to Ambrose to be the single ford flag flying.....
i reckon 888 will need to get different drivers in there and sought out their race pace, always quick in qualifying but lack the speed in the races..but its their first year, i bet they will be a force next year..
hopefully FPR will get their engines built in Aus soon as their UK counterparts are doing a pathetic job at the moment, how many engines have they blown this year, 2 on this weekend alone...

Really enjoyed the racing from the week-end. Brighty had another blinder. Isn't it ironic that where last year the points system helped him this year it's hindering him?
Would love to see the HSV Racing deal announced as true soon. Those cars would look awesome then.
Ambrose is just so good at accumulating points when all around him fail. Felt sorry for Richo as it was undeserved.
Skaifey, fair dinkum mate. Schoolboy errors so many times this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the days of the owner driver in this series are gone. There is just too much pressure.

A couple of points I'd like to raise about the weekends racing:
1. I think we need a rule change for the pit stops! There should only be one team car allowed in the pits at a time at the compulsory pit stops unless it's an emergency stop. I'm referring to when Skaife was blocked in his pit by Ingall and caused him to lose 2 positions. I know it didn’t end up making much difference seeing as he ended up with a drive through but, it is a pretty average situation.
2. Did Ellery get penalised in the 3rd race for blocking? He changed direction 2 or 3 times on Skaife in pit straight coming up to the finish line, I thought you could only change direction once when defending?

Thanks for the info Brad, I think I'll get on that mailing list!
I guess HRT would have protested if there was something in it!
