after all the recent stuff that has been happening on the forum maybe this should be posted

UseNet/Discussion Board Etiquette
Don't spam
Within the context of UseNet and discussion boards, "spamming" refers to repeatedly posting the same message on a message board. This is considered poor etiquette and will usually result in the spammer's removal from the forum or UseNet group.
Don't be a troll
A "troll" refers to someone who repeatedly posts the same message in a forum (spamming) or someone who enters a forum purely to flame other participants. "Trolling" is not acceptable in online communities and can result in one's being banned from the forum or UseNet group. A "troll" can also refer to someone who has multiple usernames on the same forum.

Stay on topic
When you submit an off-topic post to a thread, it detracts from the discussion at hand. If you wish to discuss a new topic, you must begin a new thread.

Don't type in all capital letters
Typing in all capital letters on the Internet is considered rude because it is difficult to read and comes across as very aggressive. Turn off your caps lock before posting!

Try to spell correctly and use proper grammar
You should make every effort to spell correctly and use proper grammar within forums and discussion groups. If a post is incoherent, moderators and administrators may delete it.

Don't get too carried away "flaming"
"Flaming", within the domain of online communities, refers to heated exchange on a message board or in a chat room. In general, flaming is permissible only when it does not involve ad hominem attacks on other participants in the forum.

Try not to get banned
Being "banned" means that you are barred from posting in a forum or chatting in a chat room. It usually occurs because you have violated the rules of the forum or chat room and an administrator decided to prevent you from being able to do so again.

found this HERE (http://faq.comcast.net/faq/answer.jsp?name=18014&cat=Account%20Management&subcategory=Policies)

we know the stay on topic rule will never apply to this forum:D

So does that mean that i can't use this thread to discuss my new chicken recipe?

No i think that this is an excellent viewpoint a9x, considering some of the recent discussions and the such which have gotten out of hand.....let's hear it for the moderators- let's make their jobs easier :D

Fair call Rowan & not too late either I might add.

What gets my goat is when some people put up antagonistic posts in the aim of trying to create a bun fight.

About 6 weeks ago this place was a pretty happy one & especially over the past two weeks, we've seen nothing but arguments & bickering, which is extremely disappointing.

Perhaps the forum moderators might have to take a proactive perspective sometimes, instead of reacting to bun fight’s when they surface. I'm not suggesting that all posts should smell of roses, but neither should they smell of sh.... (you can fill in the blank) either.

Cheers.:)

Without jumping on the dwarf-bashing bandwagon, one thing that I noticed about your posts is that you seem to ask the same question, or have the same comment, repeatedly over two or three different threads. Maybe you might want to try and keep it to one post.

Glad someone said it. Maybe we can all have a think before we wade in and make this a more fun place to visit. I have been guilty of some of the points listed in the past, but am trying to mellow. Hope others can do the same.

Do they still teach spelling and punctuation at school?

My old english teacher would be appalled if she could read some of the stuff that gets typed on this forum.

I know where your coming from. Apparently there is not enought hours in the day to fit it in with everything else they are expected to teach, (science, reading, maths, sport, art, music, library, 2nd languages etc....)

Also, back in the 80's the goverenment (well in Victoria anyway) decided that spelling wasn't that important & decided to ditch it as a core subject area. Consequently, there are many thousands of children who will live out their life with terrible spelling abalities, which has been a great disservice.

However, it has only been in the past 3 years that Victoria has realised this & is now starting to re-address this problem.

cheers. :D

I know I'm a pretty bad offender, but i have now found the spell check on word, so hopefully things will start to look (& read) a little better.

While it might not be my strong point, it is something I'm aware about & trying to fix. Good thing i like sports.

cheers. :)

Hmmm I'm sure we can disagree, but at least be civil about it. And leave the respective parentage out of any debate...

I think we have all been guilty somewhat of getting caught up in bun fights and issues on all sorts of things ie Holden v Ford and drivers etc and sometimes it gets a little out of hand.On one hand it shows our passion for the sport but on the other some underhanded things are said in direspectful ways.I suppose we have to try and remember (me included) that whilst we have a passion for models and motorsport and we all have something to say and we just have to agree to disagree sometimes and take all points on board. The big thing that can help I feel is if someone makes a decent point on something then it should be recognised regardless of what side of the arguement you are on.We just need to real in our feelings a bit and enjoy what we have.
As far as dwarfs goes, your posts will get better with experience and age so just keep at it if you feel things are not so good sometimes. :)

but what if something is put on the forum that I feel is rude or abusive
but
others do not
the mods will still have to check every thread

altho i agree with every thing that has been said in this thread i feel that this may on of those "waste of time threads"
(i will upset some people with this but it is my opionen)

Yes Luke there will be a sticky, but it's coming soon. Biante management are currently writing something like this (but updated) so considering there are a lot of new members on the board I felt it might be worthwhile doing a 'bump' of this old one.

A very good idea, i guess then when people do over step the mark there is a reference point for them.

Just hope it doesnt change the forum to much and we dont become like other model car forums run by the manufacturer.

Very interesting read guys. Tho I would have thought most off the points covered were more common sense things. Spelling for me dose become a problem at times so I ask my daughter to help. Where she got her brain from I don't no but he's pretty clue up. Some times I use capital letters to emphersize a word not to be rude or mean to anyway. Always write BIANTE with capital letters. Always have.

Agreeing to disagree! In my opinion if you like something or someone (A Driver or Manufacturer) that I may disagree with doesn't mean we need a bun fight over it! Why would it?? I haven't read the threads with the above mentioned aggro but I fined it hard the think off anything that the people here could fine so disagreeable to warrant the start off this thread in the first place?? After saying that and reading your thoughts of the other posts I do agree that it's a good idea and a bit off a reminder to all of us.

I think you're right Doug, most of those things are what most would regard as common sense, unfortunately it seems common sense is dying a very slow and painful death. The biggest problem/issue I see on various chat boards (yes I do visit others outside Biante :D) is that the written text can be interpreted in so many ways when you can't hear the tone of voice that intended for it to be read with which leads to many possible meanings.

The way I think about my posts (when I am writing them) is that I pretend that the person for whom my post is intended is standing in front of me face to face. If I think what I'm writing would get thumped then I don't post it, simple really :)

I hope that Biante new Forum policy uses the discretion & flexibility that we've all become used to.:)

Yes brchi17 I have had that exact thing happen to me on occasion and I'm guilty myself of misreading a post as well. Sometimes putting in the right words to ask a question or make a statement that's not taken the wrong way can be very hard knowing the amount off people that will read it with differing views. And sometimes a type O can change the meaning of a sentence to look like you mean something different. Just like the missing S in SHE in my earlier post. haha,:) It's so easy to do and not pick it up when reading back though your posts before submitting them.

Ken, we will always try and preserve the good vibe that has prevailed here. It's not so much a new policy but just one that is more evident for members.
We have one of the best forums around for information sharing, etc. Keeping things clean here will preserve that.

Ken I can't see them wanting to reinvent the wheel as we all know it will always going to be a round one ;)

What I can see it being is something that will remain atop of the forum which should become a useful guide for new members so hopefully they're able to work out the feel of this forum from it, rather than the trail and error method which can alienate members.

I suppose the other over lining thing is if you treat other members (& their opinions regardless of whether you agree with them or not) with respect and treat them as you would expect to be treated, then I don't see anyone having a problem.

As Wayno said it's more about providing a clear guideline of what is expected from all participants.

Good to see that Wayne and Brad are FINALLY given the recognition they deserve!

Also good to hear Brad that although they pretend otherwise, forum management did listen...Given the propensity for totalitarien thinking though, I dread to think what the Biante Management version of this thread entails...
