I live in Perth and was wondering if any of you know where to source a good display cabinet for 1:18 & 1:43 size models.
I have around 100 or so models and climbing. I want the cabinet to be a piece of furniture perhaps with appropriate lighting. Any suggestions? I collect mainly 1:18 now rather than 1:43.
Cheers................
Hi Timbo, If you go down to the bottom of the main thread page you can go through all previous thread and there you will find one on the subject you are inquring about. Try getting in contact with Perry who lives in Perth and specializes in making cabinets.

There are three different cabinet/shopfitting places in Bayswater that do cabinets and you can get extra shelving and lights etc, but I cant remember their names. Just look for them in the phone books

There is a place on Welshpool Rd, Welshpool (between Albany Hwy & Leach Hwy) that sells second hand shop fittings. They often have unusual pieces that could be converted into display cabinets such as display units from jewellery stores and mobile phone companies. Some of them may need a bit of work but they are a lot cheaper than buying new.

Hi Jager..............
I have 2 cabinets now.........and already need 2 more:o
I bought the IKEA INGO and put NON lighting in both of them, looks great for around $210 each.
I will check out the shop you describe though as i would love a cabinet like the ones they use in the new Fremantle Motor Museum. I asked the shop assistant to find out where/who they bought them off. She rang me and gave me the firm's name ages ago. Seemingly they cost over a grand each!!
All glass and stainless steel, but they must be about a metre square and quite tall. The models look fantastic in them though!!
Very happy with my "el cheapo's" though....
Cheers,
TImbo.

Elvis, the moffat display was made for me. I supplied the two cars (Moffat twin set), and the third one was sold to me by the shop that I buy all my models off cheap as it was slightly damaged, so I'm not too concerned about that one.
The pic doesn't do the display justice....it is awesome, especially when it is dark and the lights inside the display are turned on.

Craig.. no worries... the Brock VX's is the only model I have in all 3 scales and I figure cos its (at the moment) brocks REAL last supercar ride I would chuck them all in the one case (that and they all fit)
and Fordboy? what gave it away? :D... although I only had just finished putting that together when I took the pics cos I had only been up to the lion's den and bought the flag that morning (yesterday morning even) so figured Id chuck all the HRT stuff together on there.... guess what the gap in the middle is all ready and waiting for (hint hint admin) I think the VY should look pretty sweet in there..

Grubby... the blue one is based on a model of the 2000 GRM VT car of bargwanna....
it was resprayed in the Ford color called "Blueprint" (that bright blue metallic that came out with the FPV cars.)
the only other mods are the interior has been donated from the T155 cop car to make it a road car... the wheels from a burago dodge vyper and the engine also from a dodge vyper (so its now a V10)
it started out a privateer car then I decided to make it a road car with the cop car interior..
the other main mod is a series of LED lights underneath to give it a red underglow powered from 2 AA size batteries in the boot..
there are more pics of it on the Vanpyre Models site in the gallery..
go to www.vanpyremodels.com then click gallery then user gallery then Malik and its there under "my privateer car"
photos cover its original job when it was black.. and the original rebuild.. then the respray in blue.

Hello all -
Well, after three months, my basement is finished. The last step was to install the glass in the display case. Here is a shot of the empty case. It measures 243cm x 91cm x 35cm.
I took another one after I put in all the cars, but it looked like garbage, after which the camera batteries promptly died.
I'll post one with the whole collection when the batteries recharge and if you promise not to laugh at an American's feeble attempt to collect Aussie diecast!

I was wondering the same thing, I saw the down lights (2) going, perhaps the other three are movement sensors, which sets of a huge alarm system if someone touches the models:D

All -
Sorry for the confusion. As you will soon see, I am not an expert photograher. The three bumps are, indeed, the downlights. The other two you see are reflections of ceiling lights.
Anyway, here is the cabinet, already filling up. I hate using the flash and I don't have a tripod. Not a good combination.

Z...nice one. I bet there aren't too many collections like that in the US. It's good to see you've also got Possum's rally car.
One question...how does the front glass panel open? Does it just lift off in one piece, or is it hinged? If it does just lift off, what holds it on?
PS...I'm not a burglar, I'm just thinking of future display cabinets for myself.....:)

WOW zeitgeist....a job well done.
Give yourself a pat on the back. I love that built in look.
If you find that the downlights in the top of the cabinet are not penetrating the lower shelves cos the cars above block the light, the downlights in the room can be changed to gimball's which can then be angled onto the cabinet to help matters.
Cheers,
Timbo.

I cannot take the credit. I hired out the work to someone who has talent! I just wrote him the check for the final installment today. Arrgh!
FF - I wasn't sure how to do the layout. While it's a work in progress, I do want the touring cars at the best viewing angle.
KRF - The glass doesn't come out. I access it from behind in the unfinished part of the basement. As for Kiwi representation, I also have Richard's TKR car at the far end.
Timbo - Thanks for the idea about the lights. I've already noticed the shadows the upper models cast.

Chups -
I only finished about 3/4 of the basement. The remaining 1/4 is for storage and most people will never go in that area. I worked out the placement of the case so the rear of it would be in the storage area.
However, now that I re-read your post, I wonder if there is a miscommunication here (and PLEASE forgive me if that is not the case). When I say I "finished" the basement, I mean I installed drywall over the cinderblock and a nice ceiling to cover the floor joists.

Just looking into getting a new display cabinet for my cars.
There is a company called major creations who have one called the RETRO for $1250 with lights & another company called DISPLAY DESIGN who have one the same size but a different style for $1165 + $350 for 2 spotlights.
They are both about 1820 high X 900 wide X 450 deep.
Does this sound like a good price, has anyone actually bought anything from either place or any comments.

Maximus the display design cabinets are the way to go for me, did you happen to get the price on other cabinets shown on their site such as model S143, this cabinet measures 1040 wide, 460 depth and 900 high, It looks like it may be cheaper and hold more cars as the shelves are wider. The taller cabinet that you quote while nice has two much wasted area with the space between each shelf and will hold less cars per shelf while being not as wide. I have emailed them myself asking for further details such as additional shelves variations etc but no reply as yet. I have also come across a nice pine cabinet with glass front and sides with mirror back should hold about 80 cars with additional shelves fitted which you can do yourself, this cabinet retails for $799 and while not displayed on their internet site the company is know as timberland furnitureTimberland (http://www.timberlandfurniture.com.au)

Both of them can be built with extra shelves or mirrors or anything really.

NEW YORK - A Swedish magazine created quite a furor this past weekend when it reported Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad was worth $52.5 billion, more than Microsoft's Bill Gates. The news was picked up in publications around the world. Ikea later issued a terse press release stating that the information was incorrect, based on an evaluation of the entire Ikea Group. It then claimed that Kamprad doesn't own the group.
Based on Forbes' estimates, Kamprad is very rich, but not as rich as the Swedish news weekly Veckans Affaerer estimates (nor as poor as Ikea suggests). The self-made Swede ranked No. 13 in the world, worth $18.5 billion, in our 2004 Billionaires list. That was a jump of $5.5 billion from the previous year, thanks largely to the strength of the Swedish krona against the dollar. But it was far short of Gates and his $46.6 billion.
This furniture fortune is certainly complicated. Kamprad has shrouded his business in an opaque collection of trusts and holding companies, in part to shelter Ikea from Sweden's confiscatory taxes and death duties. But after seven years of delving into the fortune, we feel we have come up with a fair and conservative valuation method.
Specifically, we valued his retail stores based on a price-to-sales ratio derived from comparable public companies and by valuing the underlying real estate. Ikea's sales for fiscal year 2003 were $12.2 billion, up a tepid 3% from 2002. No sales figures have been published yet for 2004. We also discounted the portion of Ikea's sales that we estimate are earmarked for a charitable trust and subtracted a percentage of the sales that are held by another Kamprad company.
No doubt that Kamprad is one of the wealthiest and most humble self-made entrepreneurs in the world. At age 77, he still runs the company he founded in 1943 from tax-haven Switzerland. And he still flies economy, avoids wearing suits and drives a ten-year old Volvo.
....sounds like there is money in them display cabinets

diecast dude, that sounds similar to the one i'm about to order (roughly the same size)
I plan on buying this 'display cabinet', which is splt in 2 sections. Its hard to explain but when I get it i'll take pictures, basically its good for 1 section of 1:18's and 1 section for 1:18 and 1:64, although my collection aint that big yet.
then I'm going to install some downlights myself, (maybe). Depends on if it really needs it or not

I picked up this beauty last week, first saw it a few weeks ago and I thought it was good for the price then, but thought maybe I could find something better. I thought wrong, there was nothing that even came close to what I was looking for, both in style and price. I ended up paying $360, and that included delivery. It could probably end up fitting 30 - 40 1:18 cars innit, but thats not a concern for me as I only buy the occasional model.
Its really come up trumps after a quick polish with the glass cleaner, only thing I might do is stick a light in the top.

basically he just got a set of mirrored wardrobes stuck to the walls & replaced the mirrored doors with clear glass.
would have no problems fitting in even the larger collections

Guys, I remeber reading in past threads, possibly even the old forum about Bertby wall units from IKEA, they are a designed as a CD cabinet but i remeber a collecter posting that it will hold 1:18 cars side on, My study wall will fit 5 of the cabinets and although it will cost about $1200, it seems resonable considering the cost of some of the display cabinets around. Does anyone have or has seen this display cabinet in use ??? Some pics would be great. The Bertby (http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?s toreId=12&langId=-1&catalogId=10101&productId=13147) does appear on IKEA's US site...

Go to www.ikea.com.au and follow these directions.
Go to 'On-line catalogue'
click on 'Ikea 2004 catalogue'
click on wall units.
click on home entertainment
Then go to the last page in that section.
And there it is (page 76 of the printed catalogue).

Thanks for that Richard, the Bertby doesn't appear on the website when you search for it, hence the confusion.
"Ah, there, finished. And with only six missing pieces!"
"Those Swedes sure know how to put in almost everything you need."

Damn 2 min edit rule... on page 68 of the catalogue - which is under wall units/home entertainment they have the INGO unit which looks pretty good as well.
Those NON Spotlight halogen lights look like a good idea for lighting up the cars as well :) might have to take a trip to ikea on the weekend.

Sorry for the delay guys.
I have decided that I will get the RETRO cabinet from Major Creations with a mirror back, an extra shelf & locks on the doors.
All up it is about $1400 with the extras & includes 2 lights at the top aswell.
The gaps around the doors are very small & the glass is joined in all the other corners.
The cabinet comes fully assembled & installed at your house/work which is really good.
They also have a bigger cabinet with sliding doors which has seals at both ends to stop even less dust from getting in but is about $2200 if I remember correctly.
I also went to the DISPLAY DESIGN & had a look at there cabinets but look like they should be more in a shop than in my house. There are quite alot of gaps around the glass & the doors seem to wobble quite a bit which I dont really want cause of the whole dust issue with model cars.
With the light boxes, extra shelves & locks they work out to roughly the same price. You cant get a mirror back on there cabinets either.
These cabinets only come flat packed & you have to assemble them yourself which is easy enough to do.
I also have seen that long thin one from IKEA but it looks like it really need to be recessed back into the wall as opposed to stuck on the wall.
Cheers & I hope this may help fellow collectors out there after a cabinet.

Went to IKEA last night and picked up 2 of the non-spotlight halogen lights 10w each they were $35 for the pack of 2. Will put them in the cabinet on Sunday. They seem to light up the cabinet fairly well but they do not reach all the way down to the lower shelves :(
I was going to get a new light feature for the room and point the lights onto the cabinet but thought I would try out the halogen lights first. Will get a some happy snaps once I install them.

Cameron,
When going past Jewelery shops I have often gone in to look at the display cabinets to see how they overcome this problem. Some have little spotlights (globe around 3-4cm diameter) mounted down the side of the cabinet...sort of like this (http://www.allendisplay.com/SC_gl101.htm) but smaller...
I have no idea where you get them from...

Thanks Leigh. I did see some lights similar at IKEA. But they looked a little large. Might have another look in their catalogue :)
The other option was to get 2 more of the lights I bought and recess them in the bottom of the cabinet at an angle to help solve the problem. I have my 1:43s on the bottom shelf and because they are about 2 cars deep it is hard to see the ones at the back. I could always move the 1:43s into the middle of the cabinet to break up the 1:18s.

I think this (http://www.trendlighting.com.au/product/productin fo.asp?productid=2) is about what I saw...
Some other lights I've stumbled over...
25mm diameter flouro's here (http://www.trendlighting.com.au/product/pimages/t iny_TT_pdf.pdf) - run along the front/rear/side edge of each shelf or mounted vertically in the corners of the cabinet...
I'd also be interested to here if anybody has seen/had experience with rope lights (http://www.lampsplus.com/htmls/search/searchresul ts.aspx) (search for rope light)...

Goldie.............I only have lights in the top and the light does not reach all the way.....not that i expected they would given the cars are in the way.
The general room lights provide the extra lighting i require and sets off the cabinets and their contents nicely. I did think about lighting from the bottom as well but just couldn't see this working at all, plus the light would look strange on the base of the cabinet anyway......

Here is a photo of my cabinet with the lights in. Looks like there are 4 but it is the reflection from the mirror. Not bad for $35. Just need to tidy up the cable along the roof that runs out the back.
Leigh - I saw some of those lights in a jewellery store the other day. They would certainly resolve the issue down the bottom of the cabinet. Might have to investigate :)

Hi,
I just picked up a big cabinet with glass shelves, mirror back, side doors and top lighting that can have up to 8 or 9 shelves(comes with 4), for under $700.
Well made, and heavy as.
Got it from the furniture shop at midland military markets. Similar to the ones at Perth Furniture company in cannington that they are selling for 2 and a half K.
Its great, you have a full pane of glass in the front, no doors or anything to obscure your view, I luv it!!!!
They do great deals down there. Well worth checking out.

I'm sure you mean my pirtek picture. The COA is for a car on the next shelf, my Lowndes AU green eyed monster.
It might look a bit skinny because i have it pushed into the join of the cabinet at the back to hold it in place but only a fraction. Saves using blu-tac or someting else.
That's the only thing i can think of. Its black and numbered with a silver pen for the cert no.
Hope this helps.....

i am in the process of having a few built in cabinets made and have been looking at lighting ...AGAIN.
i found some new downlights (dichroics) that actually used a florescent bulb ...so it was cool and white...brand new release.
we trialled them and unfortunately they throw hardly any light at all after about 6 inches.....only good for under the kitchen cupboards above the bench if you know what i mean
we have decided to use 4 recessed 1200 flouros in each cabinet

Word of advise don't use floresent lighting on models with decals as the decal over a period of hime will go yellow and dull. The floresent lighting has a bad reaction with most decals. Always use standard yellew lighting to preserve the models finish. Trust me i know from experience.

Just to clarify, if I may, you mean to use yellow incandescent lighting, not yellow flourescent lighting, or is yellow flourescent lighting ok?

oh and its costing me $1200 (+ lights and mirror) for the cabinet. im not sure if this is a good price for a custom built cabinet but im prepaired to pay it :) so im happy

This one would be good for a competition. Guess now many 1/18 cars could be displayed in this cabinet.
Maybe this cabinet could be built into a wall, and view half from each adjoining room.
I guess what I am trying to say is, this cabinet is bloody BIG!!! :D

I don't beleive it..After many years of wanting a display case it is about to happen...The little lady decided it was about time to get the cars out of there hiding places, namely where ever she needs to put something,:D knew it would work sooner or later and get them out on display. So we have built a new bar and are having the cabinet mounted behind it.It measures 3mx1.2mx350mm.It has down lights, mirror backed,4 glass shelves installed on a slight angle down and is made from solid jarrah.Don't know how many cars it will hold .More than the 40 1:18 I have.
I can't wait to get them all out on display...:D

I took a days annual leave when my cabinet was due to arrive. I then discovered that I couldn't get the shelves in on my own as the cabinet was so wide and entry was via the doors on either end. I had to phone a workmate and see if he could come round in his lunch hour and help me slide them in:D
After that, yeah it took a couple of hours unscrewing them all from their boxes and putting them in the cabinet. Luckily I already knew how I'd display them so I didn't have to keep moving them or changing my mind.
Now I need another glass shelf. One day I'll get my hands on a digital camera and try and post some pictures.

I live in a Unit with internal brick walls too. They bolt onto the wall, not in.
I have attached a pic of the mounting points for the cabinet. I added and extra screw in the bottom mounting bracket, and I'm going to add extra in the top just to be safe. You need to drill holes in the wall and put those plug things in for the screws to go in. Takes a little bit of fiddling around. Get a spirit level to make sure you get it right, otherwise you'll have a cabinet that is leaning and the cars won't sit right in there.

Thanks for the info Glen.
If you really want it to stay up, you can get dynabolts or dynascrews that are brass and spread as you screw them in. I have used a few in my house for a tv wall mounting etc and they are solid as a rock!!!

The expendable boltsystems are designrd for Concrete and other solid structures,

I would have to agree FF..You can use a 6.5 mm green raw plug with a 8g screw. The trick is to drill a 6mm hole and you end up with a nice snug fit.The other advantage is that you can cover it with a cap in the colour you want....:)

The thing to use for hollow bricks, is a 10mm DynaPlug- DNP10 and then fix item to wall with a 5/16 2.5"- CS51625 coach screw. Have also used these to mount Tv wall mounting brackets. More than I can count. :D

With there being as many different types of hollow bricks as you have had hot dinners, I would check with a carpenter as to what is the best mounting fixing to use for your cabinet/brick type. It will depend on, amongst other things, weight, centre of gravity, and number of fixings.
I'm sure a plastic plug will pull out, if too much force is exerted on it. A correctly fitted dynabolt will take much more force before it will give way.
The bottom fixings typically only have a downward force exerted on them, whereas the top fixings have downward and outward forces acting on them.
If you are unsure, play it safe, and get a floor standing cabinet and make sure it has a good footing.
We don't want anyones models looking like this. Ouch!! (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27157&item=6926302779&rd=1)

I have to disagree Goblues..I have been in the building industry for more years than I care to remember and one thing you learn early is a dynabolt in brick or block is not the way to go.A plastic plug such as ramset or hilti with a coach bolt or screw is a much more secure fixing.I learnt this the hard way. As an apprentice I hung a swing arm fire hosereel in a duct. When the architect was doing his hit list he open the duct door and was hit on the head by hose reel which had pulled it's fixings. It knocked him unconsicous and when he came round he wasn't to happy.I'm not sure why.I think it had something todo wioth the fact I couldn't some laughing...:rolleyes:Honestly they are the way togo.I very rarely use dyna's anymore unless it's for heavy duty, fixed down on concrete...:)

Everyone has their own opinion on which is better.
The plugs are great, don't get me wrong, but I don't trust them with heavy things.
I can see why there could be a problem with dynabolts in hollow brick, but I've never had a problem.
If you drill the hole the right size, Its impossible for them to come out...unless the brick breaks, which is unlikely.
It would depend on the type of bricks you have too. I have an old house and the bricks are more brick than air, so the dynabolts work just fine.
Looks like yours is pretty secure anyway Glen. Thanks for the pics etc.

Tell me have you put additional shelves in the cabinets? Or did they orginally come with that many. I have similar IKEA cabinets (see photo's earlier in this thread called INGO) and i can easily fit an additional 3 shelves in each cabinet. Problem is finding them??
Glass companies want a fortune for each shelf (in tempered glass) $40+ when a whole cabinet from IKEA only costs $159- including 4-5 shelves???

Hey Patterson,
Check the IKEA catalogue which has just been delivered. They sell certain size shelves (tempered) for their kitchen cabinet range and the like for $20 or so. Much larger than i require but may suit your requirements. I'm thinking that i may get some of these and get cut down to size????
If you haven't got the catalogue check their website as that may have some info as well. www.ikea.com.au
Likewise i shall keep an eye out for shelving and if i find some at a reasonable cost shall let you know too!

I haven't received an Ikea catalogue yet, but have been checking out mum's one. I'll go check out the website and see if they can send me one.
Its strange cause there's a few catalogues we don't get, even though rellies and friends a few streets away do get them.

gday guys i came up with this idea for a fairly cheap display case, i got two book shelves for $200, used the four uprights forthe sides and the top, joined the two bottoms for the middle shelf and the two backs for the rear, i have two glass sliding doors and 8 glass shelves getting cut for $470, still need lights and some supports for the shelves, but for roughly $800 not including lights i will have about 15 shelves, 2 meters long, 40cm deep.
it should hold a few cars, and to be honest it was simple to do seeing everything was the right size except for the middle row.

My cabinets came with 3 shelves but they fill up fast. I added an extra 3 making it 6 glass shelves and 1 timber (the bottom). I got the shelves from Cabravale or Canleyvale glass on the Horsley Dve at Wetherill Park in Sydney. I think thats their name(if not email and i'll find out).
It is very easy to put shelves in these cabinets because of the timber supports, they are easy to drill into. The shelves that I brought cost about $50 cash for 7 shelves 380mmx360mm and about 5 or 6mm thick.
I would like to know if anyone has any solutions for dust proofing cabinets like mine.

Westy, I really enjoyed the pics of your collection. Thanks!
The trouble is trying to find ways to display our cars. Even when we do buy new cases or build them, they seem to fill up so quickly...
Then there is the temptation to try to stack as many cars in them as possible, with the result that they look cramped, and we have the ironic situation where the reverse of what we were initially trying to achieve occurs - to display the cars to do them justice. Stacking them together so tightly in order to get them all on display detracts from the individual beauty, detail and craftsmanship of the cars. Instead, they are a conglomerated mass of colour, and while the sheer force of numbers is impressive, it is easy to lose the detail and individualty of the cars that attracted you to the model in the first place. For instance, in a packed shelf full of Fords, there is no way you can genuinly appreciate the beauty and depth of the rear wheels of the first Johnson XE. Individual details are lost in the crush of the display.
It is sad, but it seems our collections grow at an exponentially faster rate than the accumulation of display cases...
And enough of my philosophising on the issues of model car displaying...
Patterson

Its just a shame that one display case costs the same as 4 or 5 cars!

I wouldn't brush all flourescents as being bad...
There are now many different flourescent globes on the market, all emitting a different spectrum. Although all light will fade the models over time, UV is known to fade most things quicker than other wavelengths. If you get a good quality flouro, it should have a graph on the side of the box showing what spectrum it emits and also the percieved colour. There are some that have white light and minimal UV...these would be the best...

well i have just made extensive enquiries regarding this through an electrician and inturn a lighting distributor, and all flourescent lights emit UV. they all will damage in time if used directly in the cabinet. i was not a fan of dichroics because they emit such heat.
as i will have 12 in my cabinets this was a major concern. we have discoverd an 50watt dichroic lamp with no UV and are supposed to radiate far less heat especially for display applications.
i am awaiting their arrival and cant tell you whart they are or the cost just yet.

I draw your attention to the word minimal in my original post...
What time frame are we talking? I have models that have been sitting near windows for 2 years with no noticeable fading when compared to the team mates model (that is stored in its box in a cupboard)...
These flouro's (which do exist) emit less than 1% of the UV of sunlight, combined with the fact that you probably would not have them on for the same cumulative time as the average year has sunlight, then its probably not worth worrying about...
I think they're called Daylight-Blue...but don't quote me on that...

as i intend displaying my models indefinately and under lights a good part of the time i did shy away from them, even after cutting the holes and inserting the difusers in the cabinets.
from my investigations sunlight on a clear day at noon produces around .5% of UV radiation, so as you can see 1% in the lowest flouro is very high in fact

1% of daylight...so 0.005%...so IN FACT VERY VERY LOW...
But the mix of light is not the issue. It does not matter if a light emits 1% or 100% UV if that UV portion is 1000microwatts...
Cloud cover is also irrelevant...UV penetrates water (i.e. cloud) with no reduction in intensity...this is why we get sunburnt on cloudy days (often called wind burn).
http://www.bom.gov.au/info/about_uvb.shtml this page gives a brief discussion on UV. On high UV day, up to 300 milliwatts of UV hits the earths surface, on your average day its less than 125. (Although being such a big country, these are Melbourne-esque figures)
The State Library of Victoria (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~conserv/prepast2.htm) recommends <30 microwatts/lumen (i.e. intensity of light divided by the rate of transmission) for books and up to 200 microwatts/lumen for glass and ceramics to prevent fading. Presumably our models fall somewhere in-between
Taking into account the intensity of the tube (wattage) (higher wattage will have more effect than lower) a tube can be selected that falls within the parameters set by SLV...

Have you looked in to using LED?
www.optiled.biz have a mr16 base lamp that will fit your dichroic hallogen luminaire.

Jager posted a few pics of my way of displaying and it might give some of the newer forummembers another idea, i.e. sideway's on 3 high per shelf.

I have dragged up the old post " Ferrari Fan Collection" hope it helps getting another idea.
This way of displaying is economical and you cannot "cram" it.

As you can see there is a spot waiting for the 78 and 79 Toranas either side of the 78 Cobra of Moffat :D

files are 300kb each so may take time to download for those with a slow connection.

Cant seem to access the pics. Keep getting the following error:
HTTP1.1 STATUS 403 Remote Access to this object forbidden This file cannot be directly accessed from a remote site, but must be linked through the Brinkster Member's site.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Yep, its not working for me either.:(

I have to say, thats a fairly big case that puts mine to shame! My biggest problem is space, Ive got nowhere to put such a large cabinet anywhere in the house
We dont have a garage, the only spot I could put it would be where our buffet and hutch is in the entrance to the house ...
oh well. good collection!
Awesome collection and fantastic cabinet Cameron. It looks very similar to mine. I'll have to get round to putting a picture of mine on here at some stage.

hmm weird the link will not work when accessed this way.. But thanks Y2kGoofball as that is what I was about to say...
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes it is a pretty big cabinet - but as you know it doesn't take long to fill a cabinet. Once these shelves are all full, mind you still plenty of cars to be displayed before it is full, I will probably make the distance between the shelves less, although it may look a little squished then, but I could possibly add another 3 or 4 shelves :D

Hey, where did you get your cabinet from? You cant tell me they sell them in Penrith, surely it was specially made

Hi Y2kGoofball, yeah Brinkster is great although now they have no FREE accounts - luckily I have 2!!! You have to pay even for the basic one now.
As for the cabinet - it was specially made and if you would like something like this pm me and we can discuss the details as my father built it for me.

Can you post the outside dimensions for us please. Just roughly will do.
Awesome cabinet though. 110 1/18 cars as it stands now.
I've worked out a spot in my house for a cabinet, and the dimension of yours would give me an idea as to how many I could expect to fit in this space. I hope I don't need a bigger spot in the house, as I'd have to rearrange the lounge.

Thanks goblues.
Width is 1580mm and the height not including the drawers at the bottom is 1700mm.
Yes about 110 1/18s, although I have 2 shelves for the 1/43s and the 1/24 drag cars. I am sure you could fit more if the cars were displayed differently too. :)

Mate. buddy, pal.
That would fit exactly in the spot that I have in mind. Just got to limit my collection to 110 cars now. :(
Thank you for that.
