Hi all,
I have a few questions I'd love you guys to answer for me before I go out and spend all this cash. I'm yet to purchase any cars as I'm just not sure on where the best place to buy them from is and for that matter what to buy. I'm a HOLDEN fan so I'll only be collecting them. Bias! YES I know, but my brothers would kill me if I had a Ford in my house!
I like the look of the 1:18th scale. Is this the size that most of you guys are collecting?
Are auction sites such as Ebay and Sold.com.au any good?
Is there a complete list of all the 1:18 V8 Supercar models ever made anywhere?
Regards
Sandman...
PS If you guys have any websites to do with your collection either personal or commercial I'd love to see them. So please post!

Hello Sandman,
Let me answer as many questions as I possibly could.
1) If you want to collect models of modern (1999-Present) VT/VX/VY? V8 Supercars, then Biante will release these models in all the relevant scales: 1/64, 1/43, and 1/18. Currently, Biante has the license for HRT, HYL, Brock, and Kmart teams. A few other teams, like Faulkner's, Gardner's, Perkins, and Ingall's VTs from 1999 and 2000 are available in 1/18 scale as well.
2) In terms of scale, 1/18 is preferred for its rich detail, but not everyone has the means to afford all the models in1/18. So, the majority of collectors is probably mixing and matching in terms of scale. Also, it should be noted that most of the racing Commodores from 1999 to 2001 season were produced in rather huge numbers. Therefore, practically all of them could be picked up at local hobby shops for around $100AUD.
3) Racing Holdens as well as Fords from an early era: 1970s - mid-1990s are currently being made in 1/18 scale only. Furthermore, these models are more popular than the current ones and sell out rather quickly after initial release.
4) This is a very expensive hobby, and even on secondary market (eBay and Sold.com.au) some models fetch premium prices. Since I live in the US, I stay away from Auction sites and buy from reputable retailers, since the risks are too high. Don't forget to check the "Buy. Sell. Swap" column on Biante's main website.

Sergey

Hi Sandman welcome to the forum.
Check out my website in my sig for a list of the models I have. I prefer 1:18 for the detail. I have bought a few cars from sold and ebay and have had no troubles at all. It's a good place to find rare models or people selling off their collections. Sometimes you pick up a bargain and sometimes you get that rare model for a little bit extra - but it's worth it.
enjoy.

Try your local Holden dealer and see if they get the cars in. I live in the country and the only place I can get Biante models is through the Holden dealership or going out of town. It's pretty good know because everytime they put an order in they ring me up to see if I want anything. I've also seen some of the rarer models in dealerships as well, at the original price, so it's worth having a look.
If you are not to keen on internet auction sites and bidding over the internet you should have a look at gatewaymodels.com.au .
They are at Wynnum in Brisbane.
They have nearly all the Holdens and some at the $100.00 mark, most are still new I believe, not second hand. Also free world wide shipping with orders over $200.00 . Its definitely worth a look if you haven't already found their website
Hope this helps

If you looking to get ALL of the previous Holdens that have been released so far, send me an email, as unfortunately :( i may have to clear out my entire collection. Alternatively, check the buy/sell/wanted section of the Biante site.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I say this now but don't correct me latter, I don't won't EVERY Holden ever made unless of course someone is willing to me a deal *wink*...... I'm just in the market for filling a wall up with some great looking Holden V8 Supercars.
Just as an idea I thought I might start my collection off with all current Monaro's available. Is there any rare one's I should know about before taking this challenge? I don't want to start something I can't finish.
Well this looks like it's going to be a heap of fun. So once again thanks for answering my questions and I look forward to reading/replying to the group.

Hi Sandman,
You mentioned which are the rare monaro's in the thread.
You will find that the devil yellow is the most sought after in the group that was released with Red Hot and Quicksilver. Also the HSV Coupes in devil yellow and racing green are climbing in price too. They will be expensive purchases unless you can find a good deal. The Cheapest ones at present in Monaro are the Flame Orange, Hothouse Green and Delft Blue, you can pick those up for around $100.00 each still.
Good Luck in your collecting
