View Full Version : Rally cross models?
In the Auto Action 1000th issue in the "in focus" picture section at the back they had a picture of a Moffat Cortina rally-cross car from 1971.
I know gateways sell a Brock yellow one but will there be Rallycross cars from Biante?
Another question I have is other than Brock and Moffat what other legendary drivers competed in Rally cross and in what cars?

OPPS this was from the Australian Rally Championships not in fact the RALLY CROSS......Colin Bond took his HDT XU-1 to his third national championship in four years and the Torana's fourth in a row. Once again Bond teamed up with expert navigator George Shepheard, Bond won three of the seven rounds to clinch the title by a mere two points from former XU-1 driver Stewart McLeod's Datsun 260Z.
"RALLY CROSS"
The newest form of motor sport in Australia in the early seventies was "Rallycross" which originated in England. The reason for its popularity was due to the fact that it was televised thereby reaching a large audience and consequently giving both promoters and competitors added 'leverage' when looking for sponsorship.
The first rallycross circuit in Australia was Calder in Victoria, in which the Holden Dealer Teams Supercharged Torana known as the "The Beast" driven by Peter Brock who dominated during 1972. He was the king of rallycross for three years eventually switching to circuit after becoming more and more successful on the circuit.
sorry for jumping the start ill look in my books for more on rally cross

Larry Perkins also drove rallycross in the yellow supercharged LC XU1, in the book "HOLDEN OFFICIAL RACING HISTORY" it appears Brock drove the beast at Calder rallycross & winning the series & Bond drove the car at Catalina rallycross (Katoomba NSW) & winning the series there in the same year.
The supercharged model started life as a sports sedan in 1970 before it was eventually supercharged & converted to rallycross with all the wings n things
:)
The beast won 1970,71 and 72 Rallycross titles.
I think Brock won in 70 and 71 and Perkins won with it in 72.
There were some nice VW's and Mini's in it.

Colin Bond also drove an Escort in what I think was the Ford Rally Team later in the 70's (maybe around 76?).
The Team entered two cars both painted yelow witha red and a black stripe up the side. Greg Carr drove the other car.
My memories are of watching them drive in the Castrol Rally that used to be held in the Pine Forests of Canberra.
