I drove past the circuit last Thursday and it was a hive of activity, still no grandstands errected, at that stage, so they will be very busy this week, though the temp grandstands don't take long to errect, will be interesting to see what has transpired this week when I fly back home Thursday, looking forward to the event, picked up my ticket before I left Hobart Thursday to make sure I am not gunna miss out.. ;>)

So how many of our "South" Island mates going to the V8's this weekend, and is anyone taking a camera so we can get some pics on the forum?

Also how many "mainlanders" are heading south for this meeting?

Cheers

This little 'mainlander' is headed over.

Just looking at the programmes and any collectors who are at the Track, we could have an informal meeting at the Historic Garage/Paddock. Should be able to have the Biante girls there also.

Suggest

11am Friday - after Historics Practice 1.
10.30 Saturday - Just after Lotus qual and before Porsche Chall.
11am Sunday - after Porsche Chall and before Commodore Cup.

What do forum members think? Please let me know latest tomorrow evening as I am leaving on Wed am.

I'll be up on Friday, trying to catch Skaife for a few GT-R signatures...
How will we all know - will Biante have a little tent/marquee there, or shall we all walk around with a carnation in our jackets and a secret handshake...:D

I'm curious about the Symmons Plains V8 lap record, it is stated that this is held by Craig Lowndes set in '99! How is this so seeing as he didn't race there in '99 after the Calder stack:confused:

Make sure your carnation is pink Andrew:eek:

Biante do have a "little" tent that will be in the Biante Historic's Pit, and watch out for the "Biante Pit" girls;)

Cheers and have a good weekend, don't forget we want hot tips from Practice on Friday for Finishline Comp.

The usual meeting point is close by the now yellow LJ Torana 05 in the Historic garage/paddock at the suggested times. See you there.

How would testing at Calder create a lap record at Symmons?????

Besides lap times at testing have no bearing on official lap times!

I see what you mean HRT 1-2

From V8supercar.com
1999 Craig Lowndes Commodore VR .54.5805

Given its a VR (McConville ran a VS at Symmons in 99), and that this lap record is on the time sheets for 1998 Race 1 (http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?08/02/1998.SYMM.R6) I'm tipping its from Lowndes 1996 season...

I went up to Symmons on the Friday, and despite not being a fan of V8 Supercars generally, I have top say I had a great time, even if I got horrendously sunburnt...

I got the autographs I wanted on my Winfield GT-R posters from Mark Skaife, saw the Bianet Historics (that was absolutely superb - that silver Charger was so impressive, and the Mustang was like no V8 I have heard before, except maybe that Orange Monaro from Targa...), and had a good wander up and down behind the pits too.

My only regret was that I didn't manage to find anyone from Biante there. I walked around and around looking for a little marquee, tent, or anything denoting Biant'e presence, but unfortunately didn't see anything. I even stood around Brock's yellow Torana in the Historic pits hoping to see someone, but I could not see any identifying Biante features, yet probably saw Bev and a few others there without realising! Oh well.

My only gripes were that the track needs some sort of shade for the punters, and that the guy selling model cars in his tent up near the merchandise transporters had not only the most outrageous prices on his models (AU$900 for a 1:43 Minichamps Michael Schumacher Collection Ford Escort Cosworth roadcar anyone?), but also no concept of customer service or friendliness. He was rude and patronising.

Apart from that, it was a top day.

And I have to say, I was more than a little impressed with the speed and noise of the Supercars. What interested me the most was the difference between the teams in the sound of their cars. The Valvoline Commodores were almost whisper quiet in comparison to the SBR cars.

And I really enjoyed watching them on track to see how and where they braked, what lines they took etc.

I watched them in their 35 minute Friday afternoon practice session, and watched the cars at differrent points at the track, from Turn 2 (a great place to watch them), along at the 'bridge', and up toward the hairpin. They were braking between the 150 and 125 metre mark for the hairpin. Top stuff.

I now have a new respect for the category, even if I am not a fan of the duopoly held by Holden and Ford. Still, I would do it again in an instant.

Well what a top weekend,,, and I sympathise with you Andrew with sunburn/windburn,, got my fair share of that as well.... Glad you got your sigs,,,, on my many many trips to the paddock,, all I could get was PB, Lowndes,Bowe,S-Richards,R-Kelly. Could'nt strike it lucky with Skaife, Murphy,T-Kelly, which was abit disappointing.. But all in all it was great to see such a record breaking turnout,,, over 30,000 for yesterday.,. made getting out of the place real difficult.. As for the guy selling the diecasts,,yep his prices were a joke.. guess he had to pay the 2,000 for his spot somehow..Picked up some great bargains in the Team Brock merchandise... some mates also got some FPR gear real cheap,, wonder why.. :) The little lovely from Biante Historics was well photographed,, found it quite interesting that she was photographed as much from the front as she was from the rear,, :) Did'nt get to the Biante dinner meet in L/ton,, but hear it was generous of Bev & Trev to pick up the tab... good on ya guys,. Looking forward to next year,.

It was a great weekend, got sunburnt like many others. The guy selling the models was a rip off merchant, just released cars for $200, don't think so. I got autographs from Morris, Skaife, Murphy, Luff, Bowe and T Kelly.
Only have one gripe, which I probably could've found out before the event if I had looked. Dad drove Skaife around the track in the drivers parade, I thought you could have passengers. He said Skaife was good to talk to, bastard.

The paint pretty much escaped intact. The rear bumper and the rh tail light assembly are a little second hand. They should be replaced before your ride if parts are found in time.

See you there.

FRIDAY 12 NOVEMBER

An inquiry commenced into an alleged breach of Technical Rules concerning car #22, Holden Racing Team, following Race 2 at Round 11 of the Championship, in that the ECU loom was found to include additional wires and a resistor which differed from the schematic diagram. After admitting to an unintentional breach of the Rules, a penalty of exclusion from the results of Race 2 at Round 11 of the Championship was imposed.

An inquiry continued into an incident from Round 11 of the Championship between car #15, Rick Kelly, and car #50, Jason Bright, in which contact was made between the two vehicles during Race 2. Mr Kelly admitted to a breach of the Careless Driving rule, and in addition to the pit lane penalty applied during the Race, a further penalty of a deduction of 50 Championship points and a fine of $5,000 was imposed.

SATURDAY 13 NOVEMBER

An inquiry commenced into an incident between Marcos Ambrose and Rick Kelly in pit lane following Race 1 at Round 11 of the Championship where it was alleged that Mr Ambrose breached Rule B6.5.14 (Intimidation and Threats). The breach was proved and a penalty of a suspended fine of $10,000 was imposed on the condition that Mr Ambrose not commit any similar breach of the Rules prior to 31 December 2005.

* Car #44, Simon Wills (Team Dynamik);
* Car #45, Dale Brede (Team Dynamik);
* Car #48, Owen Kelly (WPS Racing);
* Car #22, Todd Kelly (Holden Racing Team).

Car #44, Simon Wills, was relegated to the rear of the grid for Race 2 in accordance with the Rules after completing an engine change.

SUNDAY 14 NOVEMBER

An inquiry was held into an alleged breach of Pit Lane Rules by Larkham Motorsport in that the Car Controller failed to release car #20, Mark Winterbottom, into the Fast Lane safely causing contact with car #34, Garth Tander. The breach was admitted and a fine of $4,000 was imposed.

Car #23, David Besnard, and car #48, Owen Kelly, both received a black flag during the warm up session to remove inappropriate signage material from the top of their windscreens.

The following cars/drivers received a drive through penalty during Race
2:
* Car #88, Paul Radisich (Team Betta Electrical), for exceeding the Pit Lane speed limit;
* Car #50, Jason Bright (PWR Racing) for a driving infringement.

Apparently they ran with something like Not Support From Ford on the windscreen of both cars.

Not sure about this, but since when have officials been able to black flag cars for sign writing they don’t like ???

Apparently there was no complaints from any other competitors, but it’s been suggested that Ford heavies might have made the call to avesco, however this has been nothing but an unsubstantiated rumor.

Bev, that Charger was the most amazing vehicle in the Historics field for my mond. While the Mustang and Camaro sounded amazing, the commitment that this driver showed over the rise through turn one and into turn two was more impressive than anyone else in my opinion - even better than Peter Brock!

I have to say I was very impressed seeing the Classic cars being driven as they were designed, and I have to thank Biante for their sponsorship of the category. It was a highlight of the weekend for me.

Bev - what did you think of the Symmons Plains meet? I presume you have visited most (if not all of the circuits around the county). How does the new and revitalised Symmons, the Pit complex, and general atmosphere and crowd support rate in your opinion?

I have to say that while I am not generally a supporter of V8 Supercars (it hasn't stopped me buying some of Biante's V8 Supercars over time however), I had a fantastic time, loved the refurbishments, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing these cars in the metal. My only regret was not being able to meet up with other Biante members there on the Friday I was there.
