Hi all. I am so looking forward to the A9X coming out however I am considering a purchase of the Welly Model of Moffat's red mustang as currently in Oz Muscle Car. Anyone got one of these models and can you tell me what the detail is like? Compared to Classic and Biante? I know it probably doesn't compare to the A9X as a Bathurst icon but it is an incredible looking car.....

Hi Toddy05,
I have one and I think it's a good model, detail is Ok you can't open the boot, but apart from that I like it... I too have seen the add in AMC...If I were you I'd search one of your local hobby shops for one, you may get it cheaper than the $299 + $15ph...
I'm somewhat disappointed in this latest attempt to cash in on this car...some collectors like having cars signed on the roof, personally I don't...just the COA.
I have seen one in a melbourne hobby shop for $225...so I guess you should just shop around....
have fun :D

You can probably find one on eBay for around $200 or less...

Yep all been said, its a nice model good detail but released at a rip off price that stung a lot of us me included, there now a dime a dozen on ebay both the red and silver Brutt 33 versions at a more realistic price. Don't pay $299 for either of them it just isn't worth it.

Model Mania (Melbourne) have it for $250 but yeah ebay is a good bet as well...as for the model its actually a nice looking.... the bonnet stays open and looks down right mean...excellent box packaging...just the original price tag was the biggest dissapointment...ps the signiture is computer printed (so im told havnt opened the sealed envelope it came in)...hope this helps....
I have always loved this car and when it first came out I stressed over the price $299+delivery.
Anyway about a year ago I eventually bit the bulit and handed over the $$$. Then last week what did I see some suppliers now have the model selling for $200.
As for the latest ad in AMC I would not pay this much now that the car is available for around $200. (Even with Moffats signature)
Having said all that I am happy with the model it looks awsome on the shelf with the rest of the Moffat collection.

The signaure is computer printed 100%, don't know about now but a year or so ago I was given the tip to write and complain re the computer signature which I did, I was sent two hand signed certificates for my trouble.

I got my Moffat Coke Mustang for $160.00 :)
And thats all its worth. I know i would be very pissed paying $300 when now you can get it for $200-250 or $300 signed by Moffat.

Bloke, you did well scoring the originals!!! It was a bit of a scam doing em by computer to begin with .....

Seems that there are still a lot of both the Coke and the Brutt cars sitting in a wharehouse and there getting a bit sick of looking at them. they are freely available at most reputable stockists for $200 but some ....of course....have them at a higher price, but i'd suggest you get in touch with Bridge Model Cars who is offering the 2 cars for $360. I think this is a pretty fair offer.

I have one of these model bought at initial retail price but I'm not unhappy about it. Its a case of swings& roundabouts.
Although my collection is valuable, its never been about money for me.
When I buy upon release you always pay full retail however you are then assured of having one of your models that you wanted.
The detail is alright however not up to the standards of the current Biante's or even CC's. That being said I think its a must for any Moffat Collection

I always thought that the asking price of $300 for these was too much, as much as I like it I could not justify paying that much for a model that I thought looked good but not great compared to some Biante's.
I did some internet investigation into the standard of Welly models. Found a report from the US that they are not regarded at the higher end of the quality scale, more of a budget manufacturer.
But saying that, it was also stated that they had done a very good version of Moffats Mustang.
The owner of my local shop let me put one layby for $200, I'm happy with that. He also told me that the supplier was moving out unsold stock that's why they are going out at a discounted price.
I suppose discounting happens in all business, sometimes you loose other times you win.
regards
Chris

I was told that a third party did the dies and then sent them to Welly to manufacture the product who at the end kept em and started manufacturing the Boss 302 Mustangs as raced in the States ie Donehue's car.....the basis of the fact was that model car of the Mustang in racing colors or other ie better quality hadn't been manufactured at the time in the states...but dont know how true this is...was Moffats the first or not???

i bought both the coke and brut mutangs from oz over a year ago.
i paid 299.00 au for the coke and 270.00 for the brut. since that time i have watched them fall on ebay from 100.00 to 150.00 aus.
welly used the same mold to produse 6 cars here in the states from the coke mold. 3 cars were identical ecept for the number and the coke tampos and sold for 39.00 to 49.00 usa. the other three didnt have the back spoiler or hood scoop as there were modeld after american trans-am mustangs and sold for 70.00 usa.
i have no idea why there so high in austrailia other than there popular cars driven by moffat. but definatley not worth the price differance here. i would just look for a number 1 or 9 red welly mustang on ebay and buy decals from pattos and make your on. i saw a number#1 go for 25.00 usa two weeks ago on ebay. i bought one last christmas for 50.00 us and made a #4 moffat mustang to go along with the brut and coke cars and theres no differance in the detail.except were i made head light covers and painted the front bumper black and painted the quarter panel vent black, painted the silver stone guards on the rear wheel lip molding. you can see it here in my web shots.

Toddy05 , $315 including delivery for one model is a pretty high price when you compare what value could be achieved by putting this money toward current and upcoming Biante and Classics models , But we must remember that there are only 302 individually numbered models in this Limited edition anniversary series .
Another thing to keep in mind is your preference to whether you like your model signed as these are signed on the roof personally by Allan , some collectors see this as an advantage and others frown upon the marking of the model as it's then no longer as raced , all in all I guess the choice is yours and if this model as discribed appeals to you and you don't mind the cost then go for it .
Personally I have only just aquired one of the original versions and upon hearing of this model I was somewhat dissapointed that I jumped the gun because one of 302 is better than one of whatever unlimited quantity of the first edition , but then when I read the model itself was signed my dissapointment was eased as I'm not a fan of marking the models as such with signitures .
I also feel and I maybe wrong , but with so many of the earlier released models of this same racecar around at a much cheaper price tag than when it was released I wouldn't think this limited release car would gain value to any substantial amount , I have no doubt that if no earlier released version were available and this model came out with the small qty of 302 individually numbered cars both the price and popularity would have made it an extremely sought after car as an collectable investment .
But at the end of the day the choice is yours , if you like this model enough to want to purchase it then you can either pick from the anniversary edition at $315 delivered or Aprox Between $160 - $200 for the original and sometimes even less .
As to whether the new anniversary edition is of a better quality than it's previous released version I don't know , but I guess some consideration would have to be taken into account in regards to which model you would prefer to buy .
Anyhow good luck with your purchase whatever you decide ..
Cheers
Jim .

I've just written to Allan Moffat & he shot back an email saying that he signed every one of the COA personally:confused:

Singer, They DEFINATELY are printed on them.
I had 2 of these and the certificates are IDENTICAL, even where the ALLAN MOFFAT is signed, it is in exactly the same place.
He must have been thinking of a different car.
Also, how the hell do you know all these people.???
I don't know about the Brut33 version but the signature on the Coke car's COA is definitely printed, NOT personally signed.
