I have had a search for this subject being raised previously but couldn't find much on it.
Anyway as I'm getting back into collecting again I would find it useful if some sort of ratings system was in place for models, particularly for the newer items, like DJR Sierra which sold out quickly. I have only seen the photos on the web and don't (yet) own one. I will probably have to buy from SOLD.Com or eBay or similar but have no real recognised way of knowing that its a great model to get.
Maybe a star system, up to say 5 or 10 that collectors can give when commenting about a model. Then others who read will gain more of an idea (and confidence when buying sight unseen).
Just my thoughts.........What do you guys think???

I think that most collectors will agree that WITHOUT regard to price the 1/18 scale models should be ranked as follows:
1) EXOTO = 9.5/10: Flawless, but pricy and the line-up is limited.
2) Biante Classics = 9.0/9.5 Beefed up Auto Arts. Best value for the money
3) Biante Premium = 9.0 Somewhat "lesser" improvement over regular Auto Arts. Still, the Ford fans have a reason to celebrate.
4) AutoArt = 8.0/8.5 It's hard to believe, but regular Auto Arts pale in comparison to Biante Classics and Premiums. Holden fans have to take out their "model" frustration on the track.
5) Kyosho (BMWs only) = 8.0/8.5 Better interior detail than Auto Art. However, ONLY models of BMWs show attetion to detail and fit and finish worthy of a hefty price tag.
6) Minichamps = 7.5/8.0 I haven't seen a Sierra, but previous efforts like BMW 3.5 CSL and Porsche 956 fall below all of the above. The use of Decals instead of Pad (Tampo) Printing is INEXCUSABLE in this price range.
7) ERTL P100 = 8.5 I ranked it lower beacause there are few models available and they appeal to the limited number of collectors, even in the US. Also, QC is spotty, so a clunker might slip by. However, in terms of quality, ERTL P100 is up there with AutoArts.
8) Highway 61 = 8.0 Basically what I've said about ERTL P100 applies here. Anyone up for Studebacker Commander? However, at $40US on the street its tough to pass up, and yes, the glove box and gas filler door do open.
That's all the brands I have in my collection. I don't bother with BBuragos, Maistos, regular ERTLs, Sun Stars, etc. Way too many issues with these brands, ranging froom "poor" scaling (anywhere from 1/16 to 1/20) to horrible fit and finish.
That's my view from the US.

Sergey

Good idea!
I will check if we can add some icons to represent from 5-10 star ratings.

There are many brands that make different qualities and so caution is needed eg. Ertl = also Ertl Precision and the price plus the detail/finnish is different.
The Sierra is almost Perfect and this will become apperent if one takes it out of the Packaging!
Inmy oppinion this is a good idea but If you want a model to complete a theme ,well I'll put up with a clanckerony but that is just me
