Hi everyone. For interests sake, and also something of interest to admin, I would like everyone to contribute to this thread if you can. Please reply, stating the ONE model you would most like to be produced. Please do put only one, and any reasons if you wish.
PS For those of you who know me..... yes I'm back!! :)

Hello there Kid; this is your mate Graeme from the West.
I'd vote for a Jaguar E-Type Series3 V12 in dark blue as my pick of "must have one model".
I just love that old pommy ***** !!!

Id like to see a VB Holden Commdore SLE in Flamenco Red with the red interior.
The VB is the Grandfather for all the subsequent Commodores that Holden produced. Although it originated from Europe it finally brought Holden out of the stone age and to the level where it is today......
Oh, and by the way yes, i did own one, a 1980 (mine was one of the very last) VB SLE with a 253 V8......
Memories.................

Tickford XR AU Series II or III - must be blue in colour and 1:18 in scale.
NOT the BAd Series.......that looks like a Commodore:(
Without a doubt, the yellow HSV VR GTS-R with the black wheels. One of THE most recognisable cars on the road.
loste_treasures
30-08-2002, 10:45 PM
the yellow GTS-R has been done by dinkum in 1:24 scale
thekid_600
30-08-2002, 10:49 PM
True, but there hasn't been one for 1:18, which is the scale most Biante collectors colect.
loste_treasures
30-08-2002, 11:00 PM
Have you seen the Dinkum 1:24??
Quite honestly i think it doesnt do the real thing any justice. And the price tag? $400.00 for a model that does not have the level of detail that a Biante one has.......
No thanks.....
Dont get me wrong. I also collect Dinkums. Some of their 1:43 scale Commodores are quite good. I recently purchased a VH Group 3 for $150.00 and it looks real good. Im also ordering their VL Group A (Walkinshaw).
Until someone else comes along and offers another alternative, Dinkum will corner this market.
If Dinkum produced the HSV GTS-R in 1:24, there may be a licencing thing to overcome for Biante to do it in 1:18. Is this the case Admin?
loste_treasures

Someone please correct me here as well......
I have heard (and seen) some interesting things from Dinkum. Some Dinkum models (racing commodores) do not have all the decals applied on the vehicle. Instead Dinkum supply you with some similar decals for you to apply, thus making the vehicle an original.
For exampe, Dinkum have made earlier HSV (VR's i think) with the MOBIL missing from the vehicle. He supplies you with decal called MOBILEFONE. You simply cut the FONE out of the word and presto....a decal which is the same. He evens get the font and colour right to match.
Wayne Gardners Coke Commodore has the words COKE missing from the sides. Its only got the words COLA. Again you cut out the work COKE and then place it on the vehicle....
Bottom line here is that Dinkum have found ways around the licensing issue. Legal or not, they have done it.
I wonder if they have found out a way to overcome the licensing issue regarding the actual body shape of the vehicle as well, because they seem to produce (both in road versions and race versions) a whole stack of vehicles at a very high price.
Until someone else comes along to compete with them they can charge what they like.
Im trying to collect the history of Holden Commodore HDT and Group A series and so far (apart from the Trax VL Group A), Dinkum is the only one to offer those cars.
I think whilst Biante is doing a good job offering the old Falcons and Monaros (in 1:43 scale) at some stage they are going to have to bite the bullet and start offering some new Fords and Holdens to the collecting public. After all they can only produce so many colour varieties of the same model. Both Holden and Ford have made some great cars in their time.
I acknowledge the fact that to make a 'new' model is not cheap. Certainly a 1:43 model would be cheaper to make than a 1:18 one. As a thought (or marketing strategy) why not release a series of vehicles which have a theme. As an example why not release the history of the Commodore, from the VB to the current VX or the XA Falcon (i think thats the 1st one) to the current AU? Better still release the history of the HDT or HSV.
Another suggestion. Ask someone like Peter Brock (or Dick Johnson) in partnership with Biante produce their favourite cars (road or race) and name them something appropriate.
Lets hope they dont do a Trax (they are notorious for this) and produce 1,000,000 models of the same car with the only change being the colour and a few minor mods.
Collectors in general are not stupid. They soon realise that they are being taken for a ride. Once upon a time there was only real one Aussie Diecast Manufacturer (Trax). Now there are seveal. Someone has to take some initiative and break away from the pack. I've got too many XA's XB's XC's EH's XY....etc
Time for something different !

I just realised that I haven't put in my own preference. :p
Some of you are going to hate me for nominating this, but I would like to see a 1:18 1998 Lowndes/Skaife VT Commodore. It was the first VT to circulate Mt Panorama, and would make a great lowndes or MHRT car.
Yes.... we do have VTs coming outta our ears..... but personally, I'd like to have a lowndes/Skaife 1998 rather than an Ingall 2000 VT or a Valvoline VT..... :)

A blue VK SS Group A???
I'm salivating at the thought.........
Dinkum have made one in 1:24 scale but the Biante version (if they ever made one) would be 1000 times better.......
Hopefully, Dinkums days are numbered.

Whichever car you're hanging out for, don't rush to get it just because Biante haven't made it yet! I've looked at Dinkum and Trax models and for the life of me can't see a) why they fetch so much money, and b) why they employ a blind model maker. They're hopeless, and look even more shocking when you compare them with models Biante HAVE made, like the VL Commodore.....So although Dinkum have modelled some of my favourite cars, I'd rather wait to see if Biante make it, even if it takes a few years!
loste_treasures
01-09-2002, 09:51 PM
i dont think you can compare dinkum models to trax models....
trax models are far superior to the dinkum ones......
as for waiting, yes could you could wait for a VK SS Group A to come out by Biante. It just means that it will come out in your next life....not this life time...
the point here is that Dinkum who are a much smaller company (i.e. less money) than trax or biante are at least trying to make a greater variety of models. I would prefer not buying them, but i havent really got a choice. Its either wait (forever) or look elsewhere

I loved Lachlan's suggestion of the Australian Rally Cars, Bates, Possum, Ed etc. in 1:18, but for the ONE car I must have, it has got to be a Biante/AutoArt production of the R32 GT-R Skyline, in anyone of the three Australian delivered colours (Black, Silver, Maroon). With the slight modifications that changed them from Japanese spec to Australian spec, ie. roof mounted aerial, rejigged tail-light assembly, and the individual production number that was printed inside the arc of the tacho...
Please, oh please...

What's the objection to more XYs? Apart from if you're waiting for Chargers, Commodores etc, I suppose! I think a bronze wine XY would sell like hot cakes, especially with the Globes on it, and surely wouldn't reduce the value of the XYs already issued.

To Nick Short...... Isn't that XC Option 97 you want in a Production Planned state on this site??? You might not have to wait too long, from memory it has been in this state for quite some time, maybe even back when the first Cobra was released.
I'd like to see the Sandman panelvan that was shown at the Sydney Motorshow, complete with surfboards and all. That'd look absolutely fantastic!!

HSV Grange in white or black

VS - VU Maloos any colour, not fussy!!!!
VU SS Utes in any colour, but with colour coded fibreglass cover (leave out the rollbar)
Current R8 Clubsports, any colour
The list could go forever!!!!!
And something different, not cars, but how about more figures of the V8 Supercar drivers to go with the cars??? They look awesome next to the cars. And flag girls!!!!! Or as my girlfriend calls them 'Flag Sl..ts'!!!!! Bit harsh don't you think?
You could have a Big Kev V8 Supercar with him standing next to it!!!

25th Anniversary Falcon GT, in either red or black.
Much nicer (in my opinion) than the 30th Anniversary vesion.

Yes - I think it was the cosmetic part of GTfying the EB, ie the bolt-on bits like wheel arch extensions, spoiler, bonnet vents etc. Not sure if that included the interior. And he's a Pom. We might be useless at cricket, soccer, or anything else you might care to mention, but we're not bad at car design.....

Nick, I'm just curious, have you driven many Falcon/Commodores?
I was just wondering what your 'driving impressions' were compared to the U.K. offerings.
Nick Short
05-09-2002, 10:54 PM
I'm afraid the only modern Aussie I've driven is my mate's VX Commodore, and I was impressed enough - Aussie cars have come on hugely in quality (build and handling) over the last few years. Of course Euro cars never had to contend with the shocking roads of Australia, and so had more advanced suspension etc, but recently the Aussies have caught up with good set-ups that just happen to be bomb-proof as well.
The only other Aussies I've had the pleasure of driving are a 4.5 V8 Valiant sedan (very nice, in an intimidating, big diameter steering wheel kinda way!), XC and XE panelvans, (both wonderful crude 4.1 cruisers, and I loved 'em!), and my XC Cobra, which scares me every time but is exhilarating even to look at.
As for Euro cars, I haven't really driven anything recent that has excited me in the same way - they're all very competent, but don't have that rawness which is what I love about Aussie cars. I'd prefer an old classic Brit over most modern offerings.
Londoner
05-09-2002, 11:08 PM
What so you actually own an XC Cobra? Wow, is it one of the last ones?
I do remember when the VB Commodore was launched, Holden Dropped an XC Coupe from a helicopter as a publicity stunt. Not sure why really.....Kinda odd thing to do... Not sure if it was a Cobra though.....
I remember the handling of the Falcon/Fairmont being totally transformed by the addition of the Watts Linkage suspension set up when the XE was launched.
I had a mate who had an XC Panel Van with the good ol' 351, excellent. Also an XE 3.3 'Sundowner' (which were quite rare in NZ). She also had a 3.3 VB SL/E whick was nice. I remember it being light years of the Kingswood in terms of it's dynamics.
I had as I said, an XF Ghia, which was an excellent handler for such a large car, and was quite a lot of car for the money. Critics said they were a bit 'crude', but hell, for the money they were excellent. My sister (in NZ) still has her 87 XF Fairmont, and it must've done over 200kms by now......
The XF Ghia was probably the most enjoyable/satisfying car that I have ever owned, until my Omega, which is almost as good....
Nick Short
05-09-2002, 11:18 PM
Number 257......I sincerely hope it wasn't a Cobra they dropped, although I'd be upset even if it was "only" a standard XC coupe!
I think as a Pom I'm always going to be more excited by Aussie cars, as they have that "something" lacking in contemporary Euro cars. That's obviously a big generalisation, but I love all things Aussie so make allowances for any shortcomings!
PS - Apologies to all for sidetracking this thread!!!! Back to the original subject.......

Righto you pommies, you were close with the pommy influence on the EBGT. I've got the Wheels 1992 review in front of me and I quote"Paul Gibson is the pen behind the styling of the anniversary GT" Gibson is a graduate of the London royal college of art, worked for Ford in England on the Escort Cosworth and then three years in Australia. The body kit was tested in the MIRA wind tunnel in England. He mentions the Lotus Carlton in the article but I dont know his involvement. The only thing he wasnt entirely happy with was the "Bonnet bugs", he wanted trditional vents with a lower profile. There you go fellas need any more guts on the EBGT drop us a line.

I'm sure Ford sent around 1980/81 some LTDs to the UK, I wonder what happened to those cars.
re the White XC Falcon that Holden dropped for the promo, I believe it was a new car but they took the motor out of it before the drop.

Cheers Craig, I left all my copies of 'Wheels' behind when I left NZ, but I do remeber having that one...
Actually I really miss it as a publication for it's 'no nonsense' approach. (Aus + NZers like to 'tell it like it is', an approach that doesn't always work over here..)
Don't know why it isn't sold over here....

It would be great to see the John goss Bathurst winner of I think it was 1974. XB I think. It was suposed to be one of the greatest wins in the history of the great race. Lets face it, it would be more popular than the other John Goss model. It would also be great to see all Bathurst winners produced. It is a great series to collect as it gives you a great variety of cars in your display case. Both old and new. It also gives a ford fan an excuse to collect holdens and holden fans an excuse to collect fords.

Nick,
I read some where on here that the Biante guys were going to produce some XY GT's in 1/18. Bronze Wine was one of the colours mentioned.
Admin is that correct? Because I know the Mrs would love one for XMAS ;) For some reason she loves Bronze Wine XY's. I wonder why :D
ET yes the Bathurst winning XR would be another nice car to add to the collection, I think I read somewhere that Biante would also do a XR/XT 1/18 scale car and I guess that would be one that would be produced.
The Vitamin C Charger would be another Car to add to my Collection.

Mustang1966, I'm going to be in deep trouble with my wife if either the XY or Vit.C Charger comes out.......Back in 2000 I was allowed to buy the XC Cobra model, and then, grudgingly, the Moffat Cobra, as I had the real thing. I solemnly promised that it would end there......

The 1996 Lowndes car would look great and I am sure that it would be on Biante's list already. Either in the HRT farewell Lowndes collection or the Bathurst Collection.
Also the VS driven in Round 10 1999 by Lowndes would be a great addition.

Andrew - you have to draw the line somewhere and for me its Holdens and a few Fords plus bathurst winners. I will get the 91 nissan bathurst winner when it comes out seeing as though I missed the 92 one...

I would like to see more Bathurst cars 1/18 or 1/43
From the two forgotten races 97,98 Super Tourers.
I know of eight models made;Two Audi's (UT models)1/18.'97'
Six from Onyx(one of them a winner '98')1/43.(3 from '97,3 from'98')
27 started in 97;42 in 98,I'm sure someone can make a couple more , with 61 cars more to choose from, the likes of
Renault Laguna; Peugeot 406; BMW 320i; VolVo 850;Toyota Camry;Nissan Primera, just to name a couple.
Now that would balance Holden Ford collection out a little. :)
Happy collecting
Troy ;)

Tad64, Just Curious, but do BMW 3 series, have the same unfortunate image that they do here in the UK?
A survey was done here just last week, stating that BMW series drivers were the most rude, aggressive, arrogant drivers on our roads.
I have an excellent 1:18 323i sedan, which I like a lot, as I reckon it is one of the best looking 'compact executives' ever, but don't think I would ever own one, due to the type of 'w*nkers that drive them over here.....

Andrew,
Holden, F... (Australian), Valiant and even Chrysler (Australian) are probably some of the last brands of car that have been modelled (and done so well to boot!).
Most other cars have been modelled by other companies (some to death) so why can't we ask for our own? Besides, it's a previously un-tapped market in a quality brand.

A Peugot 206 WRC of Gromholm and Burns would be nice, also the Citreon??? spelling?? Xsara WRC, they look pretty nice. They'g go will with my Imprezas. Why not make all the WRC Cars??? While you're at it!!

VRSS - I completely agree that its about time that Australian cars have their time in the sun, and are modelled properly. We have had to take the European exotics (Ferrari, Porsche) for far too long as model cars. I agree that Australian cars need to be modelled, and am glad they are being done now. But what of the other Australian cars that aren't Ford, Holden or Valiant? I guess one could say that any other cars aren't really 'Australian', but what about some of the 80's Touring Cars - the Fury Bluebird, and Richards BMW, not to mention the Longhurst BMW. They aren't Ford or Holden, but are just as valid. I'm not for a moment suggesting that production of Ford or Holdens should be scaled back in any way (excuse the pun), but that there is scope to produce other brands of cars that still rate as 'Australian' - at least in our Touring Car history. I actually can't wait for a 1:18 Leyland P76 (yes, believe it!). The car was butt-ugly, but it was still a great old beast. That would rate a mention, surely?

What about producing some of the SPORT SEDANS
of the 70's & 80's. For example Moffat's & Gricey's CHEVY MONZAS & some of the big FALCON
COUPES of Richard's & Goss?
Just a thought

Interesting...
I seem to recall both Johnson and Brock driving 2 litre Fords.
And they beat the v8's and others of their time.....
Don't care how many litres they have.....as long as they go quick!
Good things come in small (and large) packages......:p

Dick Johnson actualy drove a race for Folden at Surfers Paradise on May 19 1974 in a works xu1 torana !,with "teammate" Peter Brock in the then brand new SLR 5000.
Also there has been the time when Dick saw the light and drove something "decent " and competed in the Alfa Sud series with sponsorship of a 5lt winecask maker "Montrose Wines" and an accolade to his mate John French on the side of this Racingmachine. We need deffinatly a model of this as well!
The colour was signal yellow and babynappy brown.:p

i am dying to see a model of 'Eleanor' from the new Gone In 60 Seconds movie.
i'm not talking about some 'yatming' crap which 'looks close', or anything like that, i'm talking about a good quality, highly detailed model, (pref 1:18), that biante or autoart would produce.
I WANT ONE. I WOULD PAY GOOD $$$$ FOR ONE. MAKE IT SO.
(please;) )
