We all know that the rabbit was an import,he has won the race against the Australian Bilby every easter, should we nationalise the rabbit and call it an Australian,or should we push for more recognition for the Bilby?.::)

Rabbit are in plague proportion & with the benefit of hindsight, should never have been released however, during lean & harsh times it has been & will continue to be called Underground Mutton

Oh, don't let my mom see this. She's going on vacation Monday and I am in charge of watching "Muffin", her pet rabbit, for the next two weeks.
Last time I helped out dear old mum, people at work left muffins on my desk with Post-it notes inquiring, "Do you know the muffin man?"
Damn rabbit.

Zeigeist,
As far as I'm aware, BC isn't in Australiahowever if you'd like to it move it, you're most welcome.
Rabbit & Foxes were released in Australia by the British when Australia was a British colony for the Aristocacy to hunt. Now these animals have become a plague and are creating a problem for the whole ecology, not only for farmers but also for the Townies as the country is in drought & has been for some time.:(

The Rabbit is a about Australian as the Foxes, Ferrel animals like the Cats, Dogs,Goats and Pigs. They should be all gotten rid of.
Let the Bilby's numbers grow and prosper.

You're absolutley right about the feral animals however, some people are responsible Pet owners. As for goats & pigs, they have their use (as meat but, never to be let run amuk).
As I understand it, the Dingo is the only Australian Dog.

If you were a Charlie Brown fan you'd be waiting for the Easter Beagle wouldn't you?
Don't care - as long as I get chocolate!
Rabbits are a serious menace, as are foxes, feral dogs, cats, pigs, goats, horses and cattle (yes, there are some). And deer.
I remember being hungover, setting up a rally, driving at A Speed I Don't Talk About In Public and a ten-point buck stepped onto the road in front of me. "I'm hallucinating" I told myself. Passenger's sudden intake of breath convinced me otherwise and we didn't have to eat venison that night. But it was close.
Bloody English animals and plants. Anyone else got a problem with Privet? And Prickly Pear, Blackberry, Roses and Wisteria?
I was going to get Don Burke to do "Australia's most noxious garden" at Chez Moxo.
Then I discovered Napalm! Bwahahahahahaha!
I need a lie down.

When you go back to the start - The Human Being is the cause of most animal plagues everywhere, introducing Rabbits, Foxes, Cane Toads etc etc..... but the animal always gets the blame.
Saying that, the Bilby should be promoted more as it has an Australian flavour and is an endangered species.

Tell me about it, we have a cat and 3 kittens around the side of the house 'cause some moron didn't get their cat fixed and/or dumped a cat. Because I'm a softy we are going to get them fixed and not do the more common and accepted thing.
As a race we should concentrate more on the SIMPLE things we can do. Whenever I see someone toss a smoke out the window of their car, the 4 cats pale in signifigance.
Dingos are not native animals, they were introduced.

If that is the case, they were introduced about 10,000 years ago

If you look at it that way, everything was introduced.

The origins of the Dingo are obscure.
It is not truly native to Australia but is thought to have arrived between
3500 and 4000 years ago. The oldest Dingo fossil found
has been carbon dated at 3450 years old - the approximate era at
which rock engravings of Dingoes also appear in Aboriginal art.
Dingoes have never been on the island State of Tasmania which separated from the mainland some 10,000 years ago.
According to latest DNA testing, Dingoes evolved 135,000 years ago and were the world's first domestic dog, predating the wolf. A 'marker' has been found in the Dingo which is not present in the wolf, making the Dingo a separate species.
It is believed that the Dingo is the ancestor of all dog breeds, the base stock of the 600 true dog breeds.

As a bird breeder and lover I despise cat owners who believe it is their right to let their cats roam at night. These days I only give them one warning before taking care of their problem.
Imagine waking up to find a bird you paid 20 k for dead because some moron doesnt know where their cat was last night. I am an animal lover but a pet owner hater if that makes sense.

Cats are too good at what they do. Ultimate survivors. We only realised we had cats when I found a dead bird. We started feeding them so we can get them fixed but they are still too wary. Thankfully, we haven't found any more dead birds. We have plenty still around, thank god.
I have a Labrador that kills birds. So far only Mynah birds and wood pigeons, both introduced and both declared pests. So she can keep right on going with it!

A guy I work with from Thailand paid to go to a wildlife park here. Everyone was asking him at work if the saw the dingos. He was most disgusted in that they look just like the dogs in Asia and he'd paid good money to go and see them.:D
