Saw on TV last night an advert for a new 'part works' rally car series from 'DeAgonstini' to be sold through newsagents with a magazine and a 1:43 model. The cars will be releases weekly and includes a Mini Cooper, Lancia 037, Lancia Stratos, Renault 5 Maxi, Fiat Arbarth, Ford Escort 1800, Ford Escort Cosworth plus all the current rally cars.

Best of all thee models which are reportedly made by Sonic (owners of IXO) will sell for only $16 each. In Europe the same people have also released a similar Ferrari series, a Porsche series, a general race car series and a Taxi series.

More details here : http://www.deagostini.com.au/rallycar/flash.htm

There are some nice stuff there, hows the free gifts? Can anyone tell how many issues for the full subscription?

My Red Baron one is going to cost over a grand so I have to make sure it will be missus friendly:D

What do you think of the Red Baron.
They have just starting releasing it here in NZ.
I though it might be a good project for my son and I.
As you said it will cost over a grand, so I am abit unsure.

On the DeAgonstins series, I am collecting the "Champion racing Bikes" They are great and are looking good all lined up.

Good to see that the rally collection is finally coming down under. From what i've seen on ebay and other forums and in my discussion w/ UK friedns the car's outward appearance is the same as the IXO castings but they lack the interior detail such as seatbelts. Overall good quality for the money and good as base models :D

Tony,
Its a top quality kit, no doubt about it. I have not started building it yet, I'm waiting 'till all the bits are here. Im positive its a Hasegawa one repackaged. (I cant guarantee it, though)
I nearly bought one from the States some years back and it would have cost US $600 - $700. Have seen them on ebay every now and then.
Heres an example of a Hasegawa Kit

Fokker here (http://www.wwi-models.org/Images/Nuesser/German/)

And another

Fokker there (http://scalemodel.net/driii.htm)

And another

Fokkers everywhere (http://www.internethobbies.com/internethobbies/ha s18fokdrit.html)

As you can see, I was pretty keen on it to begin with..:)

Tony, long shot here, have you spent time in Newman??

the only problem with this magazine is that there is no information about what is the order of the cars coming out. I want the modern ones, not the old 1's. I have seen 2 focus models, one mat monte carlo and one in acropolis (new focus), the 307 wrc, skoda octavia in the brocure and on website but it does not say what model is coming out at a particular time. they are fantastic models too.

2nd Solberg NZ 2003 Subaru

The set has also been released in the UK where a couple of the models are different :solberg's instead of Makinen's cars...and the order is slightly different. If you click on the FAQs icon it would appear that we are getting the same as their set

Thanks for the list jager,
I haven't seen it advertised anywhere he in Canberra but I'm going to get it for sure, I just have to finnish the bike collection now, it seems to be going for ever.
For $17 a model you cant beat it for value, and the extra model with the 4th mag looks excellent, just have to order it now.

How many in the bike set, we are only up to 24 here in NZ.
While I was in Japan last year they had just started the bike collection, they came boxed alot nicer than here, as well as the first bike in Japan was a special edition Kato bike.

Never spent any time in Newman, would have to look at a map to know where it is.

Well if thats the case then that is fine however she did specifically tell me that there would only be 2 'free gifts' and that there were only 10 issues. Hopefully she was mistaken about the series I was asking for and that the rally cars are all OK. Some of the best ones are at the middle and end of the series (Porsche 959 Paris-Dakkar)

Thanks for that! I missed it when it was published in the UK, an so was hoping for a second chance at getting hold of it. I've seen a couple of the models and they are good enough for the cabinet if you're into 1:43. Does anyone know when the first one is due in the shops?

OK visited the 'official' web site and the newsagents today.

Apparently they are doing a trial run in WA first before release to the whole country. They do this in SA and WA or combined. If it is a success, wait about 10 weeks before the general release Australia wide.

Rang them since I was having problems with their site and the site said WA ONLY. Got a helpfull lady who took my details and said that the cars were being released once a month not fortnightly as per the web site. My address isn't in WA but she wasn't worried by that.

Now the (about) 21 day wait for delivery and 4 years for the whole set. She was still saying an issue of 50 cars altogether. Now I guess time will tell.

Would have been nice to see one first hand before diving in but c'est la vie!

Sounds like a really half-assed run-out to me! What's the betting that it doesn't make it to the other states, or like so many of these part works, that you get your first few issues and then it vanishes.

Well, I got my first models today.
Peugeot 206 and the rally NZ Subaru. Nice looking models, I think they are the same as the ixo junior range or even the normal IXO models? Great for the price. $24.95 for 2 1:43 rally models including postage. Can't wait for the rest
Looking forward the the Escort and tow van.

Also would any body in Perth be willing to buy the first issue for me as mine has glue all over the cover? I'll cover all costs. Thanks.....

I got the first 2 models from the newsagent and have subscribed for the 3rd onwards.

Looking forward to getting the Escort and Transit plus the Mini.

I did start the Champion Racing Bike series and got up to issue/model #19 i think before i realised i don't even like bikes.....stupid is stupid does...:(

Anyway if anybody wants these bikes and accompanying mags/binder for a very reasonable price give me PM.

Lachlan. I just got back from working in Brissie for 2 weeks and found that the first 3 had been delivered (3rd being the Xsara of Loeb). Don't know how much luck you will have getting an un-glued issue 1, since mine is exactly the same. Suprised that any are being delivered to me since the pilot scheme is just supposed to be in WA and I'm in SA. Not complaning tho' good value for the price:D

Revceived Issues 4 & 5 on Friday. Metro 6R4 and 1000 Lakes 1994 Ford Escort. Just looked on the Biante website and the Makinen Ford Escort is an iXO Junior product retailing for $23.50 plus postage and you can get it delivered for $16.95. Bargain! A number of the up coming models appear to be iXO with maybe some Minichamps thrown in to the mix?

I desperately want this collection, but the eastern states don't seem to be getting them just yet. I inquired with my local newsagent, and they said that these sorts of things are usually trialled in South Australia and Western Australia to gauge their popularity. I hope you lot are buying up big so that De Agostini see it as a success, so the rest of us have the opportunity to buy them!

Go to the first post on this thread and there is a link or go to bissettmags.com.au and subscribe on line. This is only being trialed in WA ATM but I am in SA and they didn't say that I couldn't subscribe. So far everything except the 3rd & 4th free gifts have arrived and they are waiting on them from the UK. No idea as to how frequent they are supposed to be since over a 3-4 week period I have recieved 5 models. Marko Martins 2003 Acropolis Focus is supposed to be the next one.

Hope this helps.

Mate, thankyou so much. I will delve deeper into this. I was relating what my newsagent was telling me (and they are superb newsagents, the best in fact). They hadn't even been sent literature stating that such a series was being produced, but they said it was usual that the Eastern States had to wait.
But coming bak to your point, thanks, I will go and check it out.

Just noticed on the Biante web site that some significant holes in the Rally Car Collection are being filled by new iXO models.

Namely these are:-

1966 Mini
Volvo P544
Ford RS200
Lancia Stratos

Look under 'rally development 1:43'

Nick Short
03-06-2005, 08:58 AM
I missed the Minichamps RS200 so the iXO one will be welcome! One day we might see a 1:18.......

rex555
03-06-2005, 09:02 AM
Nick, if you type in RS200 you will see that there is a choice of 2. There was even a promorional one at Rally GB last year. Parked in the carpark for Walters Arena.

Nick Short
03-06-2005, 09:22 AM
I should have said 1:18 made by someone other than Ricko or Sun Star I suppose! AutoArt have promised 1:18 Group B cars but that was a long time ago........

I'm still waiting to see if SA gets the magazine and I'm starting to doubt it.

If they don't start advertising in the next couple of weeks then I'd say it won't be happening. That would be about the 10 week time frame they said it would be after the pilot in WA.

Well its finally come out here in the Eastern States :D , picked up the first issue today with Burns' Monte 206, now I have to pick up some decals from one of the Marlboro sponsered events (peugeot only ran Marlboro on the car during shakedown so i'll try and get decals from an event like Catalunya or Argentina where the car ran w/ Marlboro decals for the rally). You may have some difficulty in getting those models since they are scattered through the collection. eg 2003 Acropolis Focus is Issue 6. It is only the first 3 that run sequentially with 2003 cars. I have noticed that many newsagencies stop stocking these part works series on the shelves after about Issue 3 so you need to have an order through them. Good luck with it.

Andrew
14-07-2005, 09:08 AM
I saw them yesterday too, and spoke with the newsagent.
He said that there were 50 cars to be released, and that it will take 2 years all up. The toal cost is over AU$800. It sounds expensive, but over such a long period of time, it spreads out ok. Just think that it equates to half a dozen 1:18's, but remember that you are getting a comprehensive collection of the world's greatest rally cars for only $17 each, including a fact file. The cars bought through normal means from IXO, Vitesse, Skid, Trofeu etc cost upwards of $50 per car, so it works out in the end.

Mind you, in saying that, I have yet to decide to strat the collection as I am in a tight sport financially. The AutoArt and Kyosho 1:18 R32 GT-R Skylines are a few months away, and my girlfriend is already collecting the Agatha Christie book collection through the fortnightly newsagent deal, so stretching that extra might be too much. This would kill me as I love rallying and rally cars, and it was WRCars that got me strated collecting diecast in the first place all those years ago....

rex555
14-07-2005, 09:16 AM
IMHO you get excelent value for money. This is car no 5 in the series. Tommi's Thousand Lakes Escort. Still cheaper through the collection than buying 'over the counter' and you don't have to pay postage and as Andrew says you get the magazine with it too.

http://www.biante.com.au/merchandise.cfm?mode=view&MerchandiseID=15326

Quite a few of the iXO models in the collection are already on the Biante web site or search the iXO link for more. I've put a hold on my 1:18 purchases ATM but I still feel I'm an active collector only spending $34 per month for 2 cars.

Tumbo
14-07-2005, 09:20 AM
Can someone from the west who has started the collection fill us in with the order of release. I know that the UK release was different from the initial Spanish release, unsure about the difference with the French.

Just curious because i'm only after a couple of cars from the collection and hope they are relased here (read Solberg 03 RAC. McRae 95 RAC, Gronholm 04 Monte):D

One question I have:
if you subscribe thorugh a newsagency (ie. get them to hold one for you every fortnight), are you still eligible to get the free gifts (like the diorama, Ford van and trailer etc.) or do you have to subscribe thorugh the website?

Tumbo,

Don't hold your breath for Solberg GB '03. Car No. 3 is his Rally NZ car from the same year so I doubt that you will also get the other one.

Here is the list of what has arrived or is due so far.

1 Citroën Xsara Loeb/Elena / Monte-Carlo 2003
2 Peugeot 206 Burns/Reid / Monte-Carlo 2003
3 Subaru Impreza Solberg/Mills New Zealand 2003
4.Ford Escort 1994 Makinen 1000 Lakes
5 MG Métro 6R4 RAC Rally
6 Ford Focus Märtin/Park Acropolis 2003
7 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 Tommi Makinen NZ 1999
8 Audi Quattro E2 Röhrl/Geistörfer / San Rémo 1985 (Next week)

They are 1/43 Brad. Think IXO minus the extra detail- that is interior is not as flash, no seatbelts, a couple of minor differences with the bodyshell- not noticable really unless one knows the car, well worth the price though :D

rex555
15-07-2005, 06:32 AM
Just got the next 2 last night:-

8. Audi Quattro E2 San Remo a little stunner given the price.

9. Triumph TR7 V8 Manx Rally – not what I ever pictured as a ‘classic’ rally car:confused:

10. Next is the Lancia Delta

I'm looking at it as a good way to start a potted history of rallying and later fill in the gaps with the cars I really want but haven't yet got.

As for the magazine, it is pretty light weight as a one off and only takes about ½ hour to read but it will build into a pretty impressive history of the sport. Also has some classic McKlein photography in it too, like the airborne Celica with Mt. Kilamanjaro in the back ground.

Nick Short
15-07-2005, 08:56 AM
The TR7 V8 was as much a classic rally car as the Austin Healey or Mini, in British eyes, anyway! Lightweight aluminium V8, rear wheel drive, Tony Pond at the helm (I'm guessing it's his car modelled?), who became even more popular with his 3rd place in the 1985 RAC in the MG Metro 6R4 debut. But having said that, the TR7 was part of the seriously outdated range of British Leyland cars, that still used 1940s mechanicals in the case of some of the Austins (Morris Minor technology in 1980s cars!). And it was ugly to many people's eyes, but that was said about a lot of later rally cars too!

rex555
15-07-2005, 09:04 AM
I remember a teacher at school had a TR7 in yellow and we thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Until another teacher turned up with a John Goss Special with the green and orange stripes:D Oh, how easily impressed we were.

It is the Pond car that is modeled.

Nick Short
15-07-2005, 12:06 PM
The base TR7 was BL's rather tragic attempt at a "sports car", to top what was possibly the worst model range outside of Russia. Only with the removal of the wheezy 4 cylinder and addition of the Buick/Rover alloy V8 did the TR7 (aka TR8 in this form) get anything like performance, enough for the British rallies.......But on the world rally stage it was seriously outdated and outclassed. BL brought in the Rover Vitesse (with the same V8) for rally and circuit use, but it was obvious something better was needed. Hence the MG Metro 6R4. So the TR7 (if you're a Pommy rally fan) fits right into the history of rallying......The road car was often the car of choice for geography teachers who fancied themselves to be a bit of a lad, and who thought the Ford Capri was a bit old.

rex555
15-07-2005, 12:24 PM
Yeah, I seem to remember this teacher with a tweed jacket with patches on the elbows getting out of his TR7:D

Andrew
18-07-2005, 09:17 AM
I finally got the first issue, and I am very happy with it. At the price, it represents outstanding value.
Wayne, if you haven't decided to strat the collection yet, I would urge you to do so. Sure, they don't have the minute interior detail or fine painting of the $50+ cars, but they are absolutely worth the $16.95 with the magazine. I have had my eye on a Minichamps Makinen Escort 1994 Thousand Lakes winner at my local for a long time, but now knowing that I can get one through this series for less than half the price with a magazine/brochure means I will leave it there and save some money. I just hope that they release a Stratos with the Alitalia livery.

The other good thing about these cars are that isf anyone was thinking of creating a rally diorama and wanted to spray their cars with Tamiya's dirst and smoke spray to simulte the dirty look, then if it stuffs up, it is not like you have destroyed a limited edition release Minichamps diecast.... You just go to the newsagent and buy another one with change from a twenty....

Good stuff.

Just got free gift No.3 last night. The Mini/Col de Turinni diorama. It's not bad for a mass produced item and bigger than I was expecting too. About 220mm x 150mm and since the Mini isn't mounted on there you can interchange with other cars. Can't fault the price either;)

well i bit the bullet and bought the second issue so that I can convert it to Sarrazin 04 Catalunya spec.....for $17 and having strongly considered the car in the past I had to do it :D.

Also just received my Marlboro Catalunya 03 decals for my issue 1 peugeot, will post pics of the car on my photobucket once the conversion is complete, stay tuned!

I didn't realize that. Still it's not a great achievement for a car with such good drivers and so much development money thrown at it. I guess in the last 2 years anyone is going to look shabby alongside Loeb:(

Tumbo
11-08-2005, 07:08 AM
know what you mean.....tho i don't rate Loeb as strongly as Sainz, Gronholm, Makinen or even McRae

he will probably win 2 in a row but i doubt he can win 4, and i question his ability once the cars are stripped of the extra "aids" next season- methinks that Gronholm may roar again ;)

I believe that one of his biggest advantages is the Citroen itself and the team behind it. Reliability due to being at the end of its development cycle and a team on a roll. Life would be very different for him in a Mitsi or Ford. I DO NOT want to see him in a Subaru tho'. Too much friction between 2 good drivers isn't good for a team.

The quality of the cars is fine. They use IXO moulds but just lack some of the detail of the $45+ models. Examples are the seatbealts and interior, some of the antenna. Overall they are great for a collection and fit in well with other IXO models. While not Trofeu they work well.

I for one recommend them :)

As Tumbo says, the quality is fine. I figure that I'm getting a comprehensive rally car collection for between 1/4 to 1/3 the cost they would usually be. Plus you get a magazine giving the history of rallying. And how often do you 'really' look inside the cars at the detail?

that sounds great, they've not been advertised here in n.z. yet,i found out about them when i was browsing the deagostini site, the bikes are very good,$17.95 with the magazine,if you bought the bikes from a model shop with 'ixo' stamped on the box, you'd pay $34.00,and get a replica helmut on the bike seat, but hey what's a helmut, they're pretty well detailed,60 in the set,so perhaps the rally car eqivilant will be the same eh?

Got the next 2 in the rally car collection last night.

No.12 is the Pug 307 of Gronholm which is really quite detailed. Doesn't stop the fact that it is an ugly car so its still hidden in the back of the cabinet.:D
No.13 is the Datsun 240Z from the East African Rally 1971
No.14 will be the BMW M3 of Bengue from Corsica in 1983?

Would like some more Group B cars but I guess they will turn up eventually.

Noticed on the iXO site yesterday that they have 2 versions of the Ford RS200 just released so at least 1 should make it into the collection. (Woohoo)

Not real interested in the Focus & wavering on the Xsara. More interested in the earlier cars.

I think there's a few lessons that all Model Manufacturers could learn here as DeAgostini seem to have this down pat.
Firstly, offer the goods for a very reasonable price. The ones I have so far are the equal of others that I've paid around $40-00 for.
Secondly, release on schedule. From what I've read, the deliveries to subscribers seem to be pretty regular & they're certainly turning up at the Newsagents every fortnight.
Thirdly, only "advertise" when the goods are ready to roll to avoid consumer frustration.
Please, no silver bullets, these are observations not criticisms & are not aimed at anyone in particular.:)

Been in Perth for a couple of weeks where I could read the threads but not log on to contribute:confused:

While I was away the next 2 issues arrived.

14. BMW M3 Tour de Course. Dissapointed in this one. Should have 'Rothmans' livery but has 'Racing' instead. I would rather have had nothing so that the remedial action was easier to do. Even the picture on the front of the mag has the 'offensive' text removed from the front of the car.

15. Ford RS200 Sweden. Nice little car.

16. will be the Lancia 037 Martini from the Safari Rally. A bit busy and not as elegant as the normal bitumen/gravel versions.

A friend who is cherry picking the models he want from the news agents had a slip of paper in his last mag stating that from issue 8 onwards he will have to have a standing order with the news agents if he wants any more.

I wish I could get the transit van... As I get mine held through the newsagent, I am not able to get the gifts, despite the fact that I 'subscribe' EVERY issue through my newsagent!

Anyway, I am really enjoying the series so far. But I have to say I am disappointed with the Subaru. The lack of detail looks most prominent on this release. The plain tail light lenses make it look very bare.

I have noticed a couple of mistakes too. The Escort of Makinen's 1994 Finland victory sasy Serpo Harjanne was his co-driver. I thought it was Seppo, not Serpo....

And Makinen's 1999 New Zealand Lancer Evo VI is actually the Evo VI.5 as run on the 2001 season. They ran with a revised front bumper/intercooler housing in 2001 from when the Evo VI debuted in 1999. Take a look at the pics in the brochure of the real car, then compare them to front of the model. They are different...

Really though, for the price they are, I'm not really going to complain...

Interesting that we've got 2 different time-lines going here. We "cherry-pickers" are only up to #9 - the Triumph TR7 V8. Yeah, the standard B series 1.8 ltr TR7 followed the TR6, but the V8 TR7 was a bit of an afterthought, like the MGB GT V8. Like: "Golly, how can we make these lumps go quicker?".
I just thought that the name TR8 would've been poetic - V8, TR8?

Well I got No. 18 on Friday but only No. 18 (usually come in pairs). This was the Timo Makinen Monte Mini No. 177

The next one will supposedly be 1999 Acropolis Focus of McCrash & Grist (and I was hoping for something good;) )

Monday night i got the Mini (part 18 i think!!) only.

As others have said i normally get 2 cars/issues per delivery so i don't know what is going on there. Not a sign of things to come i hope....:(

I'll give them till issue 20 to get me the Escort and Transit van package. If no joy by then i will be contacting them etc.

The mini looks great and will go on the diorama with the other one that i have had for a while.

Cheers,

Timbo.

I'm waiting for the Alpine then I'm taking the Mini off the dio. Adding some tyre marks (anyone know where I can get 1:43 scale figures without costing a fortune?) and maybe a bit of snow as well. A real Monte diorama:D

The diorama would look great with snow, ice, and Piero Liatti's 1997 Impreza WRC made by Trofeu. He won the event that year and the car looks fantastic. That would make a top dio!:D

Mmmm, very nice! Especially the 2005 Eifel Historic. I used to be a member of The Group B Car Club in the UK, but they disbanded and have been incorporated into Slowly Sideways I understand. Looking at the cars, especially the Group Bs, how many have been made in 1:18? Not many......I'm still waiting for the 6R4, Manta and Ascona 400s, various quattros (but especially the E2!), 037s and Integrales not made by Kyosho (don't like 'em!), Renault 5 Turbos, RS200, Peugeot T16, Nissan 240RS, Porsche 911 SCRS, the list goes on.

I have had nothing from them in near 2 months,Parts 10 and 11,I rang and got everything form they were sent on the 28th,they were returned, and you should have them in 2-4 weeks,I think there is a shipping problem, but the lovely lady did say she heard a rumour that the transit/escort gift might be here in late January!,I really hope so..

I have had nothing either since the last issue (Mini) which came on its own incidentally not 2 issues like usual.

I hope the New Year brings more issues and the missing 'gift' of the Transit/Escort package.

Please post in here if anyone gets issues etc past the Mini.

Do you think it would be possible to for those of us not subscribed thorugh the publisher but who get every issue 'subscribed' through the newsagent to try to wangle a Van, trailer and car by 'asking' the newsagent to become the subscriber on our behalf? It's the only thing I can think of.

Hi Andrew,

I think your answer is in your question. Unless you are getting the subscription 'direct' to your own address i can't see the publisher allowing subscriptions through a newsagent, particularly if its a late one.

I also think you had to subscribe reasonably early on in the piece to get the 'free gifts', but hopefully i'm wrong!

Try it though, you never know. Good luck mate!

I got the decals from Pattos Place for the missing Gitanes logos for the 1978 Porsche. Looks much less naked now. :D

Just need to find the correct Rothmans signage for the BMW and then I'm going to try to convert another Porsche into the Dakar 911 SC.

Finding pictures with all the logos is tricky and on the McKlein web site they are too small to see clearly and I ain't buying them.

I noticed that the Gitanes text was slightly blurry but my eyes aren't the best these days anyway for small detailed stuff. I don't have the skills or equipment to do them myself, anyway.

Lachlan, what did you do for the cursive writing on the roof of the car? I looked on his site but couldn't find anything close.

Ta. Be interested to see how you go.

One thing I noticed was with the 2003 Pug 206. The McKlein desk top calendar I have shows the car on the start ramp with full Marlboro sponsorship yet I believe that it was raced without as the 1:43 scale car was presented. Anyone else noticed this? I think the same photo also appears in one of the magazines.

Yep, what Singer said. Go for it. The collection is great, a potted history of World Rallying. The models are mostly iXO (with some ring ins that they haven't produced, I believe) but they don't have the detailed interior. For the price they are a bargain IMHO.

No. 28 was the 1990 Toyota Celica of Sainz/Moya (needs Marlboro decals)
No. 29 was the Skoda Fabia, a nice little model but the shade of green isn't quite right (I believe)
No. 30 will be the 1985 Lancia Delta S4 of Toivonen/Wilson RAC Rally

No. 35 Relault Clio S1600 Simon Jean Joseph - minus Gitanes logos
No. 36 will be the Opel Ascona of Walter Rohl - minus Rothmans logos, those wonderfull 'Racing' ones instead. They did mess up tho' since the cover of the S1600 shows the car with full ciggie livery, a situation which is usually blanked out.

I was the co-driver last year. Guy in Broken Hill is the driver. The photo in the back was the car in action in BH last year (if you can make it out in the dust). We came to a 'sudden and unexpected stop' in the rally of SA last year which is why we aren't competing this year. That and we are both very busy with our respective works.

Errrrr, yes.

Same one that Cody hit in about 01? Still bits of his car under the leaf litter, so I figure following in his footsteps we could be ARC champions in a couple more years :D

Opel Ascona with full 'Racing' livery and the Lancia Fulvia looking absolutely naked.

absolutely naked would usually be great, but for a rally car, i am not too sure.

Opel would look alot better iam guessing. So what number are we up to now rex555

Number 37. No. 38 will be the Talbot of Frequelain/Todt. Not many left now that I'm hanging out for. Mainly 959 and Alpine

mmmm ...tempting .... I discarded this collection when it first came out thinking it wasn;t going to be any good but seems it has turned out to be quite an impressive collection !! .... Is this collection of 43 cars the full set or are there some missing ??

Should be 50? I believe the Italians got 60 with more Italian cars and S1600. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I worked it out that the set will have cost me about $800 delivered to the door and with freebies.

Which works out to be good value for the cars you get, plus the informative magazines (even if there are a few errors in them)

A similar thing happened for me on one of the other earlier issue numbers. It did eventually come into stock and was posted out to me, but it was a wait of several months. I assume you have telephoned them to ensure it's not just an admin mess up??

I had to wait for 19 and 21 I seem to recall, but eventually received them. Do you order through a Newsagent? If so, keep asking them. I think Gordon & Gotch are the distributors in OZ. Maybe give them a call.

Got 38 & 39 last night. Only a week before they were supposed to be despatched, so maybe this should be on the "What makes me happy" thread.

38 was the Talbot Lotus, a very bland little car without the lights/decals
39 Citroen Saxo S1600 D.Sola RACC 2002, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. When there are still so many good cars they could have included, they put this one in.

40 will be the Sainz/Moya Toyota Corolla Rally Oz.

just got Lancia Delta S4 (number 30) from the newsagent, this was one week late for some reason as well, but now that i have it, it will make the weekend feel a little better.

the only thing that can top it is getting the atkinson new zealand car that i bought from biante today. :D

Sounds just like the "Classic Cars of the World" collection they did...some of them deserve to be binned:eek:

Daniel Sola did win the Junior World Rally Championship at Rally Great Britain in 2002 in the Saxo. That's probably a good enough reason for a model...

Next 2 arrived today.

40. Sainz/Moya Rally Oz Corolla 1998. IIRC didn't they leave that car in Oz after the event for Bates to take on Possum?
41. Skoda Octavia Rally Monte 2003

Both nice looking cars and good to see something to fill the gap between 1995 and 1999. One of the mags has the 1998 championship win of Tommi and while there is a long distance picture of the front of the car they didn't show the classic of Moya 'putting his helmet away' through the back window at Margam Park. ;)

42. is another snoozemobile Fiat Punto S1600

The original Corolla he used in Australia was the one Bates drove in Indonesia and Australia in '97 and subsequently kept here for his Aust campaign.

He did get a new car in I think '99 which Auriol tested here in Canberra in Feb. He rolled it and although it looked minor, needed a new body shell. Neal was not happy.

To be honest I'm amazed this series is still going! The usual pattern with d'Agostini stuff seems to be a gradual loss of interest by consumers and the series ending early. Then another series starts up (collector's pocket watches, build a robot, the human skeleton, learn calligraphy week by week, teapots of the world, that sort of thing) and once more interest fades and the series ends early. I imagine there's a big warehouse full of unsold parts that are then resold the next time that particular series starts again. So if you don't get whichever issues you've been waiting for, give it 5 years and they'll start again.......

This series has done so well overseas that 2 other verions were started in Europe; the Carlos Sainz and Monte Carlo sets; wonder if these will ever hit our shores? detail looked slightly higher for these ones

I notice that they still have the Sainz collection for sale in the Altaya web site. If I could speak Spanish I'd ask if I could buy a set as a job lot. They now have a set of specifically Spanish drivers as well, and their 100 years of motor racing which has some nice cars in it as well.

rex555
13-10-2006, 06:59 AM
Well the west is a long way away from the rest of us. ;)

When I first enquired about this collection it was due to the comments on this forum of guys over in the west saying that it had been released. The company uses either SA or WA as a test case for these part works series. If they do well in that state they release them across the country about 8-10 weeks after their initial release. Which explains why everyone else is so far behind in the series.

is that the Carlos Sainz collection by any chance ?

I bought a couple of these cars off eBay & they are top shelf in terms of quality, plus they're in a perspex case, which makes them easier to store until I can display them :D

If you go back a couple of pages in the "What rally cars have brought lately" thread I have posted a pic with all of the Sainz Models so far, they are really well made the same quaity as normal IXO models. There are only about 10 left in the collection.
