Has anyone seen the latest edition of Auto Action,
with HRT's new VY on the cover?
The back end looks a bit like the MAGNA, very square, with rest of the car looking similar
to the VX. Rectangular headlights look O.K.
as well.
Anyone else like to comment?

doesnt look to inspiring, but then again its pretty much a stopgap till they get the all new V6 and new body later on down the calender isnt it?

Im not to sure ducksguts. I saw the cover of
Auto Action and bought it. There is'nt much mention on the specific details about the car,
but it shows holden's photo's that were
accidently sent to an unofficial FORD web site.
OOPS.

The pictures in the magazine are an artists impression of what the car could look like. It looks like they used the 2002 car and some fancy photoshop work.

As HRT have not yet constructed the first of their VY Commodores we will have to wait and see some official pictures.

What worried me, was that with all of the comming motorsport events on the calendar (Sandown 500, QLD 500, Rally Aust, Bathurst 1000 / 24hr, indy, etc) we had an artists impresion of an unreleased car on the cover of AA.
Didn't we see that pic on the cover or pg3 a couple of months ago?
I for one, would prefer AA to have current cars/drivers on the cover rather than the suggested artists impression of a car that we'll all see in a couple of months time.
Just for the record, i've been buying AA for the past 14yrs weekly and will continue to do so, if this was only a 'once off'.

After just seeing the range of new VY commodores on the news they really look like CRAP.
Toyota and Ford have got better looking cars then this commodore that's been hit by the ugly stick.

Toyota and ford any day
New commodore,not for me.

I just saw the new Commodore on the channel 10 late news. I have to admit that the back end of it looks a little like a Subaru Liberty and I am not so sure about the Grill on it either. It also mentioned something about A/C not standard on the VY either.

To be honest I would have thought with the new BA Falcon, Holden would have kept on it's toes. I guess time will tell how people take to both new cars.

I have only seen the SS in the September Motor and think the rear end looks like a lancer. I am not sure what they were thinking when they put that little tear drop on the headlights!? Must have had a few late nights drinking something wicked.

Looks like Holden are trying to make a round body look square with the front and rear styling onthe SS.

The Ford XR6/XR8 looks like they have taken the VS HSV side skirts and other than that I can't tell much difference in the BA. I think it looks ok. If I was buying a new V8 and wanted either Holden or Ford - I would be leaning towards the Ford.

Not sure if the VY got hit by 'the' ugly stick but it also got hit by the rest of the ugly sticks in the family!!!

Maybe they will look different in the metal??? Here's hoping.

Cameron,

your quite right. I will wait untill I see both cars in the flesh before passing total judgement. As I said I was a little taken back, with all the Barra hype, I would have thought the powers to be at Holden would have been on the ball with this car.

Being a GMH devotee it hurts me to say it but does'nt the grill of the Berlina and above models look very similar to the Mazda range.

I think the S and above models look ok, the HSV variants will be interesting. I was going to wait to buy my wife a new XU6 but I might get a VX instead, have to wait an see I guess.

Glenn,

I was wondering where I had seen the front grill before - it's on the wifes car - Mazda 323. I think Holden decided to get the front grill from Mazda and the rear from the Lancers and stick a Holden body in between. Also I think the styling is leaning towards a Euorpean look with the sharp edges... All the cars are starting to look the same :(

Has anyone seen the interior???

At least you might be able to pick up a nicer looking VX cheaper than a new VY. I am still not a big fan of the HSV VXs so I might be waiting a while before I upgrade my VT Clubby maybe whatever comes after the VZ?

One other thing about the XR6/XR8 is they should have kept the twin headlights - that is the one thing I did like on the Fords.

It looks like the Falcon will finally beat the Commodore in sales judging by what the new VY looks like.

i think i agree with what every one has said before. i think holden has had its time being up front. now its time to be down the back.

for a holden man who fell in love with the commodore way back when the very first VB came out, its a shame that they have thrown out all that good work and came up with this vehicle that looks like it was designed be people who were drunk!!!

another thing, i have to admit that the AU XR6 and XR8 have wicked twin light fronts. i thought to myself, crist here is the oppositions attempt to rival holden and they are doing a good job of it. it will be a shame to lose that aggresiveness now.....

it doesnt matter if your a holden or ford fan. we in australia have wicked australian designed vehicles for australian drivers. c'mon holden and ford, about time you listened to us !!!

Just picked up the latest MOTOR magazine and it had a feature on the VY SS. When I first saw the pics of it I wasn't too impressed but after having a proper look from different angles it actually looks pretty good. The new interior also looks heaps better than the VT/VX. Can't wait to see it in the flesh (metal?), especially the SV8 model. Pics will be on Holden's website tommorrow (12th).

I am a True Blue Ford Man but I do like the Mitsubishi VR-X Ralli Art Edition, and the figures to go with it. Out performs an XR6/8, a XU6 and a SS, all this from a non-turboed 3.5 litre V6.
As I have said before I'm not that keen on the AU except for the XR6/8, which are great looking cars, I personally think that the VT/VX Commodores are a better looking car. With the current new models being released Holden have done Ford a favour with the release of the VY (Mazda,Astra,European,Lancer) hybrid car.
