View Full Version : Webber '02 Minardi

Just received my Edition 2, 2002 Minichamps catalogue which has the 1/43 2002 Minardi of Mark Webber. I understand the 1/18 model has already been cancelled by Minichamps, but what about the 1/43 version ? I can't find it on the Biante site - I thought it would be there as a 'Scheduled for Production' item as the last I heard it was scheduled for release in Q4.

It is indeed a shame that there is no intention to do the Minardi in 1/18 and for once to be able to get a full grid of the F1 cars together.
It also highlights the fact that the Australian drivers in F1 do not matter or sell as there is no model of:
1. Sir Jack Brabham 2 times Worldchampion
2. Alan Jones 1980 worldchampion
3 Mark Webber current F1 driver and a sensational result in our own GP!
4 Cris Amon NZ prominent F1 driver
5 Bruce MclLaren ,The Founder of the Mclaren dynasty!
6Larry Perkins drove in F1 for a while
and the list is longer than this
No model of a Repco Brabham anywhere but Commodores and falcons EVERY WHERE in model form.
commercialy I do understand, from a collectors point it is a different matter:(

I can't comment on 1/18, but at least in 1/43 you can get Amon's 1969 Ferrari 312 with either low or high wing (Brumm), Brabham's 1959 & 1960 Cooper (Brumm) and 1967 Brabham BT24 (Quartzo). I understand the Alan Jones William is scheduled for production by Minichamps.
What concerns me is that the 1/43 Minardi of Webber may have been dumped, especially as Admin has failed to shed any light on a possible release date. Alternatively it may have been deleted from general release in favour of a very limited run ''First Points - 2002 Melbourne GP" model similar to the Raikonnen model that was released at this years GP.
Whats the story Trevor ?

yOU MIGHT HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD ,with the last remark.
I do not know but it could well be .You and I would be able to get one of these !
I do NOT know at all but it sounds like a good no even great idea.
and the importer plus the manufacturer are not out of pocket at all as a sepetrate entity will foot the bill up front
The A jones type car was made in 1/43 by polistill and in 1/24 by bburago with a bit of imagination.:D

A webber first points issue as a limited would stand alone next to any general issue of the same car. Webber has a huge following in the UK as well as here in Aus so I think both issues would still sell. As for Biante not listing the cars some times they don't many of the minichamps issues are listed elsewhere in the world and most go on sale evene before Biante put the same car on their site. Here in Aus we seem to be at the end of the Minichamps distribution order.
Sometimes cars I have brought in North America have not gone on sale here for anything up to 6 weeks later.
So if the Webber car is released in low numbers look it up in the UK or Canada so you don't miss out.

The reason I have not offered a release date is that Minichamps own the company and as such I am not privvy to their production schedules.
The 1:43 is coming..items 400 020073 for the test car and 400 020023 for the race car.
Try as we may, there was insufficient interest to justify the expense of tooling a 1:18th.

I just saw this car in transit:
MINARDI-ASIATECH PS02 2002 F1 - Mark Webber
Product No.: 400 020023
What does the PS02 stand for? Nice looking model and having seen a few F1s in the model shops I think I may have to get this car. Will look odd amongst all of the V8s though :)

I might get a couple of these Webber cars.
As Goldie said - they might look a bit odd with all the Supercars & Holden road cars.

I will also get a couple of these cars (meaning Webber's cars), I am in the process of purchasing his First points car. The PS02 car I will get when it comes back on Biante. I am definately waiting for his Jags though as the I like the paint work.
Might have to have a corner in my collection for other cars. Bourne WRX when comes, maybe a Schuey ferrari, etc, etc

The PS02 car I will get when it comes back on Biante.
Cracker, I could be wrong but with only 3,000 of these made I don't think you'll ever see Biante with them back in stock. As far as I know all the models have been distributed, and I'd pick one up from one of the local retailers before they all disappear.
You may be able to find a regular 2002 Minardi a little easier as these had a much higher production run, but for Aussie collectors the Melbourne GP 5th place car will always be the most sought after.

Jager,
Might have already answered my question. That it is the 2002 race car, not presentation car. I wanted the race car anyway.
Here hoping!

There are 3 different models - a presentation car, a 2002 Aust GP 5th place car (limited to +/- 3,000 pieces), and a standard 2002 car. Note the Aust GP car and standard car have slightly different sponsorship decals and different packaging.
The model everyone is going crazy about is the 5th place Aust GP car. This is NOT the car that is in transit (although you might be able to find it at various stores around if you hunt around). The car in transit is the standard 2002 race car which is not a limited edition. See the links below.

Thanks Jager,
I sort of worked it out.
Have you any of the Webber models and if you do what is the best one to get?
Cracker
Hi Cracker,
just wondering if you went the Toy and Model Fair at Wayville Show Grounds a couple of months back.
I went on the Saturday and picked up the Webber Show Car from a guy called Michael Kuo (Model Inc.) from Melbourne.
If you want my advise if your only getting one, get the First Points car. Thats the one that sticks in peoples mind the most. But if your patient and keep an eye on the auction sites overseas you will pick them up at a reasonable price. Anyone selling them in Australia will be asking top dollar for them now.
Sorry for butting there Jager.

BB , was that you I was talking to about the Webber cars , I had an Exoto Ferrari in amongst all my star wars stuff.
Cracker. The first points car is still available from Canada and would be a little cheaper than e-bay but not much , worth a look if you are interested. Try Toronto Motorsports . good people , they have a web ordering page , but I wont post the address out of deference to our hosts .

They are $57.50 EACH.
Does anyone know where to get the plastic cases that come with this model?
Yeah i remember it was the Ferrari with the special paint job. We should make little badges to stick on our shirts/jumpers saying our forum names at these things. Like.. "Hi I'm BB" ..could get some interesting comments,..."Hi I'm Cracker" or "Hi I'm Grubby":D

Sadly Cracker I think Cameron (the_Goldie ) has beaten you too it as the car is no longer on the website, you could try e-mailing them , Derrick is the guy who runs the shop and he can be reached at toronto.motorsports@sympatico.ca or www.torontomotorsports.com.
Good luck as they are good people .
Cameron , I think you got very very lucky there , its a terrific car and Ihave the three lined up plus an AUTO Art 1:18 CLK (not Maisto) making the beginings of a very nice Mark Webber collection.

The real OZ GP. It took me a while to find it on the site and with the Aussie dollar being so close to the Canadian dollar it was a great buy. I think it worked out to be around $70 AUS delivered. Just have to wait 2 weeks now for it to arrive.
This will be my first F1 car! I am not a big F1 fan but don't mind watching these cars absolutely fly around the tracks. They are crazy! Also with an Aussie cracking the big time in F1 I think it is great and this model is one of the rarer ones to find and thankfully the search was pretty easy. If you are in NSW I owe you one of SA's|Australia's finest beers "COOPERS" :D Thanks again.
Good luck with the search Cracker.

Cameron (the_goldie) I'll take you up on the beer one day as I visit Richmond a few times each year and Penrith isn't too far away (used to live in Glenmore Park years ago.

absolutely looooove Minichamps F1 cars in 1/18 as they fit in well with trying to collect as many World Championship winning cars as I can (also cheaper than Exotos!). I have 14 Minichamps F1 cars (13 champs and Coulthard 1997 AGP winner). my fave would have to be the 1999 Hakinen as it's fully West branded and in a West branded box, but I don't know a lot about the model. I picked it up out of the trading post for $200, and thought that with that signage it was a pretty good price.

Is there three Webber Minardi's ?
I know two have been released, the presentation car & the Australian GP, is the 3rd still or was in production?
I can't find it anywhere:confused:
I have read on other threads that some are saying they have all three models, I know there has been discussions about the wrong name (Davidsons) on the Australian GP model, is this the so called "third" model?.
