Thought I would make a new thread based on the V8s as it is coming into the Endurance races and 6 rounds to go with 7 completed -- so you could say we are 1/2 way to finding out who the new champ will be...
Thought I would post the current points including the drop your worse round...
Interesting to note that Todd would be 2nd on 960 -- only 90 points behind Ambrose, so with 6 rounds remaining can Todd overtake Ambrose by getting at least 15 points more each round to be equal??? Similar story with Richards [16] and Ingall [16]. Skaife will require 31 more each round to catch Ambrose and so far this year he has only outscored Ambrose once by 22points. I think Todd, Steven and Ingall all have chances especially since Ambrose and Ingall are not together for the enduros.
Anyway here are the standings so far... After previewing my post -- it didn't format - so wait until admin approves the attached image.

I think that Marcos Ambrose will win the championship. It is hard to see him not. It would be interesting if Todd won then moved to SBR, similar to Richard Burns in 2001-02. As for points, this system needs to change. Has to be progressive and give chance for drivers to be agressive, not like the new russell ingall. My view. Change the points to bring back the enforcer.

The points system is too hard to work out for most people and needs to be simplified.
Todd Kelly is a definate chance for the title to challenge Mighty Marcos and is only 90 points behind.Richards is 94 and Ingall 95 back and then it is a jump of 186 to Skaife - too far back to catch all four ahead, especially with his lack of form.Lowndes is 196 back and although he will win more rounds, the points system will allow those ahead to stay that way for the most part.
It is still exciting though as after Oran Park, we have the Enduro's.
I would love TKelly to join SBR next year but I think Steven Richards will get the nod.

Good work Cam. Marcos is going to need a dnf not to win the title I think.
That we even have to have a thread to work out who is where in our countries biggest four wheel series is a joke. We are all pretty big motorsport junkies here. For us not to have a clue shows how ridiculous this whole thing is!

Just wondering if there is anywhere where we can see the round by round points for 2005 ?

Thanks so much.
Wish they would learn to have a simple point scoring method though

Agree with that. The winner of a round gets hard done by with this sytem as the points he earns are too close too each other to the second and third placegetters etc....
I reckon only the top 20 finishes should get points. First place gets 100 pts, second 80 pts, third 70 pts, 4th 50 pts etc....

I think the point system should set points for the top 16 drivers aka 50% of the field. This will reflect the qualifying system. If a driver is penalised, the points given to him will be taken off and given to another driver ie 17th etc. It has to be progressive. The only problem with the series is that the race formats are diverse, and the increments of points have to be in 6 at minimum. Maybe points are allocated at the end o the round according to average race finish position, not race results. This may get over the 6 point separartion. This has been Tony Cochrane's biggest problem that he hasn't fixed and must do so.

Looks like the link didn't work - so this one will now... 2005 Points after round 7 (http://www24.brinkster.com/bathurst1000/)
Wayno - I agree that I can't see Ambrose losing unless he has a DNF after Bathurst. If he has a bad round before Bathurst or at Bathurst he still might be ok...

Agree with the fact they should give points for the round and not each individual race unless they are a one race round ie QLD 300, Sandown 500, Bathurst etc.
To have such a diverse number of points is crazy and to have you drop your worst result in the first 10 is madness. In F1 they used to do this by only counting the best 11 results and a few titles have been lost this way ie Prost would have been world champ in 1988 being the last example. At the very least, what you score is what you earn - full stop.

Top ten points standing after Oran Park (with the worst round dropped):
Ambrose: 1230
Ingle: 1144
Richo: 1118
T Kelly: 1032
Lowndes: 1011
Skaife: 954
Murph: 946
Bright: 894
Tander: 886
Johnson: 864
Kelly and Bright moved up one place with the drop.

They tried this at the inaugural Adelaide, and all the teams more than two laps down said they wouldn't start on Sunday because there was no incentive...
Hence the points per race system, where everybody starts each subsequent race in each round on an equal footing...
And average position scenario described above does not get around the requirement for the score to be divisible by 6...
Cheers

Had to laugh, Read in the paper today that if Ingall won every race from now on and Ambrose was second it would that Ingall till Rd 12 in 2006 to that the Championship lead. LOL

I take your point but the system still needs to be refined. As i said earlier it's up to each team to get to the pointy end of the field and even if they are out of the running for an event, they still have the obligation to race hard for the paying fans and paying sponsors.

That is why there needs to be more reward for winning and that is just one aspect of the points.
