Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a hyclone (or tornado in the USA)?

The theory is sound, but I just haven't been able to convince myself yet.... Oh yeah, being a boring fart I'm more interested in the FUEL CONSUMPTION than the performance. Thats why I still have my VR Acclaim 11 years later, I'm boring....

We have had this discussion before, I seem to remember somehow.
This devise is trying to mix the fuelvapours/droplets with the air, by making it swirl.Increase airspeed/vortex effect
but what it also does is preventing a fuel/air mist to develop above the carburator(s) top,if placed in incorrect position.
This is why carby race cars did have the huge ram airtubes on them, as to stop this mixture being blown away/retain.(Can Am, F1)
to pay the asked price for a small piece of S/S thin sheet is a Question.
Pump up your tyres to 40/50 odd pound will also improve the fuel useage (better?).
This sort of idea has been peddled many times before and will be used again in some different form due to the increase price of fuel.

yes i to find the claims made by some of these things rather hard to believe.if it were that easy car manufacturers would build it in so they could claim better mileage figures..and if it does work as it is claimed the car manufacturers should have their butts kicked for not using them...:D

The same thoughts have been whats stopped me believing it...

You should read the conspiracy theories surrounding these products...

Apparently the car companies don't use them because they have a stake in the oil companies...LOL

I love a good conspiracy theory...

Cheers

Wonder why we all don't have one of them seeing as how they extend the life of your battery by 5 times ?? (I just had to get a new one, (battery that is), in the EL on Wednesday, but figure I had no reason to complain as most of them seem to croak the day after the Warrenty runs out these days, but this particular one had been in the car since March 2001 !!) .:)

I wonder if DR Eric Dowker was responsible for any of these?

Martin, I read a test report in a 4Wd magazine some time ago. And they found , in a Toyota Landcruiser diesel to increase the MPG by a couple percent with 1 hyclone in place and another few percent with 2. Now a few percent isnt much but its still a saving none the less. I bought one today for my toyota hilux diesel. Mate if you want to save $$$ on fuel give it a go its only a day's wage in price. Thats better than doing what someone else here said and pump up your tyres to 40- 50 psi what a joke. Whats better 1 days wage or a whole weeks wage on new tyres.

I run all my vehicles at 40psi...and get more even wear (and thus longer life), more grip, better road handling and better fuel economy...

Try it, it will cost you less than a days wage...

You maybe right, i run my tyres at 36psi. 31x 10.5 R15 tyres.
How many kilometers do you get from a set of tyres? Ive used the same brand of tyre for the past 10 or more years and i consistantly get 125,000 to my last set 140,000 kms. Thats both on and off road.

I'm lucky to get 50,000, but that's more to do with the type of tyre and vehicle...

There is no question at all that higher inflation levels will reduce rolling resistance and therefore reduce fuel consumption...but overdoing it will compromise grip, handling and wear...

The question here is really "How do your tyres wear?"...If the tyres wear in the middle, they are over-inflated. If the tyres wear around the edge they are under-inflated. Different drivering styles, vehicles, loads etc etc have different sweet spots...but in my experience, around 40psi gives even wear across the width of a tyre...

Reading the RACV recommendations, a tyre under-inflated by as little as 2psi can increase fuel consumption by 5% (again vehicle dependent)..

Cheers
