Just wondering if anyone else has one of these machines.

I thought I was losing my mind with my one. But I have finally caught it out. It keeps losing titles off the hard drive.

Also, if I record straight to DVD the image appears on the disk until I finalize the disk then it just dissapears.

Anyone else having this trouble?

I have an LG recorder.

The only problem I had was when I edited parts from a movie once and for some reason when I transferred it onto a disc it left out five minutes around the same area that I edited.

The HDD was ok but it would not transfer the part around where I edited on to disc.

I don't know what is causing your problems but I thought I read somewhere that if the HDD is full and you are still recording it will erase the oldest stuff on the HDD and replace it with the newest recordings.

I have an LG but with no HD very disapointing once you find out about macrovission, hardly worth having one and try and find a sales person who can direct you to a DVD recorder with out macrovission, should have stuck with the VHS

Sounds like a code upgrade would fix it, some machines have a port for this, normally RS232!

diecastdude, macrovision can be normally overcome fairly easily, the sales guy wouldn't be able to talk about macrovision because of copy write issues!

I recently bought an LG DVD recorder, model DR4812W (doesn't have hard disk). All went well for the first couple of recordings, but then it started giving error messages when a recording was finished, saying that the disk was no longer recordable. Not only was it not recordable, what was just recorded was also unplayable.

After searching some web forums, I found out that this model was prone to doing this whenever a recording was paused - that is, its ok so long as you don't pause the recording for ad breaks etc. This is a common problem with this model and LG have known about it for about a year but done nothing, and still they continue to sell them like this. Surely they can rewrite the firmware or something.

Have a DSE DVD player & (crosses fingers) so far has been faultless - about 18 months. Also have a DSE entry-level 2 mp Digi-cam which was fine until Wifey managed to half-fry it by inserting the download cable in backwards! DSE re-placed it without a problem & now it's our backup camera.
That said, when we were shopping last year for a BIG TV, it came down to an 80 cm TEAC (made in China) or a same-price 80 cm DSE made in Turkey. We thought: "Hmmm, the Chinese have been making TVs longer than the Turks, we'll take the TEAC!"

I bought a DVD recorder last Christmas and it is going well. I have begun transferring my old Bathurst tapes onto DVD, which is fun to sit and watch the races from a few years ago. The DVD recorder is a Transonic and it plays everything that I throw at it. For $349, I couldn't complain at the time. I like that idea of the new ones with a hard drive in them though!

Cheers
John
