Hi all,
To anyone who is going to the Bathurst race
will you be checking out the Museum there
as I have a question.
It involves the MOFFAT XC of 77 that is
on display there. I went there in 89
and took some photos of the car. Going
through them last night I noticed that
the repeater lamps in the rear 1/4's are
horizontal and not vertical as on the race
car.
This leads me to this question. Is the
car on display the actual 77 winner
or just a display model.
Regards
Damian

I went there many years ago too, i was told that the Moffat XC was only a replica back then, don't know about 2day though, also the Nissan Bluebird back then only had a standard 4cyl normally aspirated motor, now the real mcCoy is on display.
I remember at the media day in 1994 when i was there they brought out the XC & Brocks (dayglo orange Marlboro C'Dore) for a couple of demo laps & Moffats XC didn't sound like a race motor
:)

Thanks Senator1,
Does anyone know who might have the original
car? Whoever's got has a piece of history.

When i was at the Ford Discovery Centre in Geelong 12 months ago (i think it was that long ago), they had one of the race cars, however i can't remember wheather it was Car 1 or 2. Perhaps you could check with them and find out. The details for the discovery centre can be found at

http://www.ford.com.au/inside_ford/discovery/Ford_ Discovery_Centre.asp

hope this helps you in your search,
cheers.

Good on Ya brchi17,
Gave them a call. Very helpfull.
They told me the car you saw at the centre
was the original Moffat No.1 '77 XC
and is now back with its owner in Queensland.
Thanks for the info.

Glad i could help,
if the car is in Queensland, try the following web site as they have quite a lot of interesting old race cars. I don't know if they have that exact car, but they might know where to look.

good luck on your search
Cheers,
BRAD.

To the best of my knowledge, that is one of the few cars that isn't in David Bowden's collection! I think it featured in one of the past Cobra Club newsletters, but I don't have it to hand. Gutted to hear the one at the Bathurst Museum is the genuine article, as I swarmed all over it taking photos in '94....
As No.1 is actually the same car as the '76 XB and '78 XC Cobra, it means that someone stripped all that lovely blue and white paint off to return it to '77 livery! I can see why, but as a Cobra fan....:(
