Purchased v8 supercars 3 on ps2 today and from what i have seen and played its not that special. Not a whole lot different than number 2. Handling seems worse. (brakes and steering)
Graphics are better but besides that its average. Dont bother with the monster trucks or other buggy races either.

i just picked up the us version yesterday and played about all night. im up to the 15th tier in world tour mode so far. there is a new version of supercars
this year as well they look like the konica car series. i ran them last night on
eastern creek & adelaide the racing is a lot faster than last years and the sound has really improved, at adelaide on diffrent parts of the track you can hear the cars eccohing off the buildings. the graphics are very sharp for a ps2 version and the handling i thought was better than last year on normal mode, if you put the full damage on and realistic handling the racing slows down and the car can be wiped out in one crash and i didn't think it was as much fun as normal mode. the A.I. is a lot tougher on this game as i couldn't get passed second place in either of these races and that was a hard fought second place at best. theres alot of bumping by the A.I. drivers that will make you go off course and make you want to destroy your A.I. enemy!!
last years game was very easy to beat the A.I even on maximum difficulty
thats how i know they really tweaked this game up. theres also three or four v8supercar championships this year even a international and world tour were we can run the v8series cars on foreign tracks all over the globe, i can't wait
to reach the v8 series. i will agree with the opening post as the dirt rally cross, baja bugs and monster trucks weren't near as impressive to drive as the road racing touring cars that i have managed to play so far. for the money this is a bargin game with all the diffrent categories of racing in one title and its leaps ahead of the previous toca games. overall i was impressed with the game and im sure its going to get a lot more hours of use from me!
a little tip when driving the v8cars this year, when your getting clipped from the rear by the A.I. drivers take your foot off the gas and try to steer out of harms way. the car seems to spin or fly off the track more often when your still in the throttle and trying to steer. the first time i played i was screaming
my god these cars are flying followed by you cheating sob's!!! have fun cheers Tony

I want to check this new game out sometime soon too , I had a ball completing the earlier V8 supercar games and this one sounds like a real challenge .

Are the tracks any different to the last one as the bathurst track was a shocker on V8 supercar 2 , I could handle fanging around laguna seca so I hope that track is in the international V8 world tour .

I played the demo version my son got in a ps2 magazine a couple of weeks back which had very restricted play and didn't think much of it especially the graphics but it did state that the demo was an unfinished prototype version that was a raw version of the finished game .

Can't wait to get the game now Tony , you've convinced me and it sounds like there's a lot fun to be had . Probably a lot of cursing too .. :D

jim i think you will enjoy this game alot, i thought last years game was a big jump from the previous version and this years game makes another great leap in alot of ways. the down side first, so far i haven't seen any pit crews in any of the races that calls for pit strategy so i guess thats like last years game. the other down fall is in the rally cross, monster truck and baja buggy
or the dirt part of the game. the handling isn't that great but it gets predictable and you can win after trying several tries. the upside is the sheer number of racing leauges and diffrent ways to play. the graphics are a lot crisper than last years and the cutscenes are 100% better. theres alot of lighting techniques in this version that helps the games overall look also.
the computer A.I. is another plus this year if you like more of a challenge.
the touring car series are my favorites and the DTM, V8Supercars plus the brithish gt cups make the game worth while for me. from what i have played so far the touring car series are all fast close racing series so far and a lot of fun to drive. im gonna give the indy,F1 cars a try as well but i know you have to take care of those cars as they don't take much rubbing & i usually don't make the whole race with the car intact..lol

OK. I have played this a bit more and it is much better than no.2.
They have definately fixed up the problems with bathurst. Especially over the top of the mountain. U dont get air anymore which is good.
Ive decided that its worth the money.

Bought my copy today.I have omly played for about an hour so far and it is bloody great!Tracks are very accurate(no getting airborne on top of the mountain finally),graphics are awesome and the A.I cars are a lot more aggressive.
Be warned though, don't cut any corners!!I accidentally did on a shootout lap,got an unsportsmanlike conduct flag and got my time wiped out!(had to start 10th :( )
So many options to this game and I havent even begun to scratch the surface yet.
Highly recommended if u havent got this yet.:)
Cheers,
Tony.

Has anyone who has posted here played Rfactor, GTR Fia sportscars, GT Legends, Trans-Am mod for N2003 ???

If you have I'd like to hear you thoughts comparing it to them as for me I found myself a lot more from a game than was delivered in the V8 supercar series.......

Are you playing these on pc or do you use the kids ps2, x-box etc......???

cheers. :)

Yes I have bought all the other racing simulators that you mentioned and I have just bought V8 Supercars 3 on PC (still installing as we speak) I have the first one on PC, but it was so crap I couldn't use my wheel on it so I bought the second one on PS2 but the demo of this one let me use my PC which is good.

If you want something like rFactor, wait for the ORSM mod to come out because ultimatly this game has alot of flaws, but I have bought it this game (opposed to simulation like rFactor, GT, GTL, NR2003) because it has alot of racing series in it that will take a-l-o-n-g time to be modded with rFactor

Do you actually have a safety car on this one ??
While racing do other drivers crash or spin themselves ???
Can you actually see what happens in the pits this time without the screen going black ??

When I can race a thundering XY GTHO, a nimble GTR-XU1 or a roaring A9X around the Bathurst circuit, then it will be worth buying :D

I got the game on X Box......its great.
Big improvement on the last game.

The sound is good, the cars feel much heavier and theres no more 'Supermans' at Bathurst.

New Queensland,Shanghai and Symmons Plains tracks are all great.
Graphics are once again brilliant.

There is a huge amount of different cars and championships to race in.

DWARFS=No safety cars.
Yes the drivers do run wide and have crashes with each other.
There is no pit stops, the screen only goes black.

Good to hear the drivers make mistakes themselvces this time..

The game really does need a safety car, i mean even the 2001 F1 game on PS1 had a safety car...

Black screen is just boring, i liked the first version of V8's and how you could actually see the sdrivers working on the car..

One more question: Is there commentary on the game like F105 ??

Damn the races are getting hard already and im up to the 13th tier.
Im kinda stuck on the v8 development series. But maybe that because im driving Grant Denyers car.
In earlier races in other categories there is a short version of eastern creek.
Some side track thing at corner 3 or 4.

No commentary by the way

one thing that is p****ing me off is in qualifing I sometimes run wide and slide off the track coming out of a corner......in theory slowing me down, and the lap gets disallowed beause I have had an "off track advantage". yet other parts of a track I can cut some chicanes and get away with it.

Yeah, that is so bloody annoying isnt it?I have also been clipped off the track by other cars and I am the one that has got the warning!!
Cheers,
Tony.

I was in ToysRus on Saturday hunting for hotwheels and my sone was playing an Xbox game. He was driving a new Elfin Speedster and the graphics looked great. Sorry , can't remember the name. Could have been PG...something...DOH..lol..

Personally I don't care too much for how pretty a game looks. I'd prefer a game that had the graphics of a wheaties box if they could get it to drive in a realistic way on a realistically designed race track :D
