will this model be made with the rear spoiler that was on the car or the one they had made at bathurst after they found the original didnt work? the one they made up was higher and more angle.

I'll answer that one - sensational. A red spoiler on an all blue car these days would be frowned upon probably, but it does look great on the model and sets the XE apart from the XD. A welcome and much anticipated edition to the Dick collection.
Now, what'll be the next one Richard?!

I am at the moment not in Perth, sorry.
But, yes it is a very beautifull model.
The mould that this is made from has produced very fine models (Moffat,DJR Winner,2 Kermits etc) before.
The next one could be the venerable XA GT 2 door, Yes please!

Thanks for the info, even thought it's not good news :)
To be honest I'd love to see a few more of Dick's more winning cars produced before they go back and make all the ones that either dnf'ed or weren't competitive.
It would be nice to see some of 1990's DJR Falcons before the AU. One I'd love to own would be his 2nd EB (not the 1st one as CAMS knocked that one on the head for not conforming to the V8 rules) which won the very first ever race of the current V8 era (round 1, race 1 Amaroo Park).

Well technically it was the 2nd DJR EB, as the 1st one was rejected by CAMS after the August Bathurst media day as it was too much like a sports sedan than a touring car. I've not been able to find a pic of the Amaroo car but attached is a pic of the 1st EB Falcon race car which was displayed at Bathurst in 1992.
The attached picture is not one of mine, but from an article in the October 1992 issue of Motor Magazine photographed by Stuart Spence & written by Wayne Webster.

Sorry brchi17, no eta I am aware of so far. Also whilst on subject as a general note... I made mention of the M******O "Team of Champions" Logo on DJs Bathurst XE on one of the threads a while back..... Further research, mainly Aust Motor Racing Yearbook for 82 season shows he DID in fact run one on the rear of the car for several ATCC rounds but for the 1000, definitely had only the one logo on the car, between the bonnet number & the cowling. It is in fact the very same logo of which there's about 4 of, displayed on the Bob Jane Monza for that season, being pedalled by one Mr P Brock. (Big photo on cover).

3000 collectors? Yep easily.
As for only the 89 and 84 going up in value. Either you've been living under a rock for the last 12 months or you have a very good source to get DJ's cars at cost or less. Try getting the 81 Bathust winner for less the 270 or the 83 XE for less than 250, even the Rock car gets anywhere from 200 to 250 just about every time and its only been out for 24 months. Add to that all of these cars were produced with a run of between 5100 and 8274 so a run of 3000 is going to be the hardest one to obtain of the whole lot in time to come.
Well, yes and no. I do look at what the resale of these are occasionally. I see that the Torana, '88 RS500, the AUs and XCs have all gone backwards. The price of the XDs have been good, but you will have trouble getting bites if you list them at ebay with a starting price of $250+. I've already seen a handful of people try and flog off an entire collection in the last 12 months. It's a very difficult task and you will have to take a significant hit on your intial outlay to move the damn things.

Hold your horses fellas, it's not that cut and dried.
I agree that some of the prices listed were actual final bids (the $250 for the '83 and the $280 for the '81), but the rest look like they were just the buy-it-now price or opening bid and a lot of these just get passed in). The XC with the $400 on it was signed. There are other XCs that are still there for under $200.

Why are you buying/collecting? them? Models are models, not shares, to most of us.
You buy them , you cherish them and the second hand value is a giggle factor.
Very much a side issue.
A complete collection of DJR is not complete without all the models of all the years, this is why they get the $$ that they do, due to the passion of the collection.
Over the next couple of years to follow the popular theme models with the low issue # will be the harde$t to purchase sadly for many a collector.
The trent is already there, older model lowish #, popular theme, Big value secondhand market.

Wrong, it is that cut and dried, none of them are PASSED IN prices, they are all the final selling price of ended items
..
You can now add these two completed yesterday
1:18 Ford XD Falcon Tru Blu 1981 Winner Dick Johnson (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7035146426)

. $294.99 (6 bids)
and as for those I previously listed, the 81 XD (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7035420959) for $285.01 had 38 bids, the 81 XD (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7034049189) for $270 had 9 bids and the Lakeside XC (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170000196424) for $400 had 20 bids, the 81 XD for $300 was a Buy it Now item that SOLD (not passed in) and the 83 XE (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7036498842) for $250 was 1 bid at the starting price of $250
The XC with the $400 on it was signed. There are other XCs that are still there for under $200.
You are correct, some do sell for less than $200, the last 3 sales were $152.50, $195 and $255, the $400 Lakeside XC however was NOT signed, only the COA was signed.
The occasional one that sells low is called a bargain (I got my 81 XD for an absolute bargain price of $150 Buy It Now last year) and then you have the occasional one that sells above the norm (like the $400 XC), but most sales are in the price ranges fomoco04 stated and all but one sale in the past 30 days is above the release price of the model disputing your comment that only 2 Johnson releases had gone up in value.

Just a quick question, got mine from the shop the other day and took it out of the box yesterday only to find that it appears that the areial on the front guard is missing. The bottom bit is there but no mast. My 83 one has one there. Has it fallen off or is it like that. If it is missing its very disappointing. over 60 cars and the first with something missing.

What was the actual result at Bathurst in 1982 for this car.
According to the Bathurst Motor Museum web site it had a DNF and the forth placed car of Janson finished on 158 laps.
If that is the case and the Red Roo car (as indicated on the certificate) completed 160 laps would it not be the 4th placed car?
The Museum web site also gives a qualifying time of 02:17.836 seconds again different to the certificate that comes with the model. (although I just noticed that this is the time listed for all the DNF cars in the race)
I assume the Bathurst Motor Museums stats are wrong.
Sorry if this has been covered in another thread

The stats are correct, in that the car completed 160 laps and set a qualifying time, but the post-race disqualification was because of cylinder head technical irregularities. From memory, Brian Callaghan's Falcon was given the boot for the same reason (he finished 11th or 12th), and that Steve Masteron's XE was the only legal one in the field (can someone confirm the Masterton one?).
Thanks Dingo

The Johnson/French XE (160 laps) and Callaghan/Muir XE (150 laps) entries were both disqualified, the Masterton/Stewart entry (7th 155 laps) was the only XE to gain a result and the O'Brien/Sampson (20th 134 laps) entry was the only XD to gain a result. 2 other XEs and 4 XDs failed to finish

"Alledged" irregularity! From memory, the head was US sourced with the same part number and had smoother ports.
With regards to the Masterton Falcon, does anyone know why it ran at Bathurst with what appeared to be a standard XE fron apron?
lukey73
22-06-2006, 12:38 PM
IIRC that the bigger Group C front spolier was making the car overheat, so they tried to run with a Normal XE bumper through practice which made the car run at more controlable temp.

After saying I will pass on this one, I saw it in store today and now I really want one!
I just cant really afford it and know I shouldnt as I have the 81 and 83 Falcons which sum up the Palmer Tube days nicely. But it looks so good :)
Decisions Decisions! :(
Well I bit the bullet and bought it today :)
The price tag of $155 at Hobbyco in Sydney finally convinced me. Also its be two years since I bought a new Johnson model so I was due for one.

Where is Johnsons' 1994 Bathurst EB, 1995 Sandown EF and 1986 Mustang models?! Its not a DJ collection without them!
I love your tag Pug, hopefully one day soon we'll have some answers on what's next, as it does seem like the DJR collection has taken a major back seat to the Brock & Moffat collections.
What worries me is there seems to be no more DJR 1/18 in the system that anyone knows about......
Hopefully Richard or Bev are able to tell us about what might be the next 1/18 in the DJR collection ???

From memory brchi, there is mention somewhere that the DJ 1977 XB has always been in the pipeline. That was the car he ran with the #13 at Bathurst, co-driven by Vern Schuppan. So there's one definite still to come. Also if I wiggle the brain a bit I seem to remember confirmation that the Mustang will also eventually be done. Then of course, way into the realms of the diecast future, we still have the "gap cars", between the XEs & the AUs. So in summary,...S***Loads yet to come !!! :D:D

I too do remember much of the above talk that you've mentioned Billford1, however no one has been able to tell me what the next 1/18 car will be or when we may see it.
Considering it was back in 2003 when we first learnt about the Red Roo, I am yet to hear/find any information about anything else being released sometime soon in the DJR collection.
Before the Red Roo was released the djr cars were coming out every 6 months or so & we knew of what was coming, but currently it appears this collection has been put on hold

Yeah, point taken Brad. I see what you mean, in so much as an actual "confirmed Imminent release"model...You are correct there, as far as I am aware there has been no mention as to EXACTLY what the next release is likely to be, or roughly when. Perhaps we will hear something in the near future in view of the very recent Factory Visit ??

Expect a big gap then...remember over Christmas when a whole lot of people were whinging that some models had been in Production Planned for a few years...someone (could have been Richard) from Biante said on here that they just wouldn't tell us what was planned until 3-4 months before it was released...
Therefore if there is one in the pipeline, and it is due in 9 months then we won't know aout it for 5 months!
Billford, I wouldn't hold my breath over ANY model that is announced...look at all the Biante cancellations over the last 12 months:eek:

1986 Bathurst, Mustang GT.
Which means it is time for them to add to the list :)
Here is my dream list which I was thinking about just last night!
1994 Bathurst EB (What a no brainer)
1995 Sandown EF (A nice looking car/Djs 2nd Sandown win/ and the last time DJR dominated!)
1995 Mazda RX7 Eastern Creek 12hr Winner (A neat looking car and something different for the set)
1998 Bathurst EL (First time he drove with Junior)
Other cars you could add but not on my "most wanted" but can be made to get the most of the molds:
1994 Sandown EB (1st Sandown win for DJ)
1992 Bathurst Sierra (with dirt and wet look!)
1996 Bathurst EF (2nd to Lowndes)
1989 Sierra "Redkote" (As raced in the UK)
1989 Thunderbird (Raced in Nascar)
1984 Bathurst Mustang (with the reverse paint scheme and #71)
And I could go on.....:)
After all if Brock's collection can keep growing, why cant DJ's?????

Actually im surprised that the Green Machine that won the 84 ATCC wasn't listed nor on your picks...is it me or it seems ATCC winning cars are out of favour???

I didnt include th 84 ATTC car as we have the 84 Bathurst car and Id like to see some DJ cars from other eras before we get into making every car.
It is true though ATTC cars are over looked for Bathurst cars, I guess its also easier to make a car of one race and not one to represent a seasons worth which can have changes to sponsorships over the course of a year (esp DJ's falcons in the early 80's)

Like the 82 XE we just had released for instance...The model is as run for Bathurst. However gets a big mention as to being the 1982 ATCC winner as well in Diecast Downunder mag. A great mag, well worth the money & I have every issue. None the less, sometimes a few of their facts are not quite right, as in this case. A perusal of the yearbook for 1982 will confirm that DJ ran & won the ATCC in the XD. The XE was a brand new car constructed between end of the ATCC season, mid May, and the start of the 'long distance races'. So the car in question actually had its first race at Oran Park, then Sandown, followed by the 1000 at Bathurst, so it is NOT the 1982 Championship winning car. (Not nit picking, just correcting)! :D

Good work Billford, as I've been racking my brain thinking I had my thoughts all wrong, as I'd always remembered the 1984 ATCC as being the only c'ship for the XE. When I read this, I too starting to think I was wrong :o
That said I would love to see all five of Dicks ATCC winning cars, as there were some differences between the ATCC & Bathurst cars of those years, even if some were only minor.

While they are making the Mustang how about the JPS livery he ran in the Wellington and Pukekohe races in NZ.
I was there for them and even have some old photos of the car in black and gold and it looked amazing.

I have seen the smaller 1:24 DJ JPS Mustang on ePay a few times recently
