Just a warning to all the Biante Chatt users with the MIRC program. Yesterday I was logged onto the MIRC Biante Chat group and later found that I had been infected with a virus called IRC.Backdoor.Trojan and it was present in the exploere.exe file on my PC, my up to date Norton antivirus program failed to stop it entering my PC but it did pick up that it was present however Norton could not repair it, delete it or quaranteen it. Numerous attempts were made to remove the virus and all failed. Searching around I found out that the virus is listed as a rare virus to get but is only transmitted via peer to peer programs such as MIRC. In a last ditch effort to remove the virus before attempting a Disk Format or Regedit sollution I removed MIRC from my computer. A final scan for viruses indicated that it was gone, thankgod for that. So its so long to MIRC chat and I hope that no one else catches the bug but be warned someone is playing around.
This is what can happen on uncontrolled chat networks like the one you visit diecastdude.
Perhaps looking at the original chat network would have saved you this little infection. As I said many times to those who participate in the original chat, it's not enough to have good will and start up a rival chat. The host has to know what he is doing. It's a bit hard when the host has all of 4 months IRC experience.
You draw your own conclusions of this ;)

Yes point taken Hati however while I'm not even a novice on the set up or operation / features of MIRC I was on the original chat site when I got this, I have not visited the other group in over six weeks. Some time ago I found that I could not log into the original group and it was recommended that I down load the simpler windows version so that I could get on there again so I'm not sure if it was the windows version that caused this or not and as I said I'm clueless when it comes to MIRC but I was on the original site at the time. While I do not want to discredit any chat group and prefered the original one the most I posted this warning purely as it was desighned to do and that is to warn that a very tricky virus that current upto date Norton failed to stop.

I should have got my heading correct in the first place by stating Virus warning for live chat users, I rename icons on my desk top and Biante chat is what I called it.

Get your facts right first before posting.
Ok let's get facts straight.
1. Diecastdude you will be the first user of the Dreamrealm Network in its 3 years of existence who got a virus of any sort by using it. Mirc is NOT a peer to peer software, up to the point of initiating or accepting a DCC chat. Mirc communicates with the IRC servers directly and not the individual clients. Given that I PERSONALLY know almost every single user of the network, I find it less likely then a lotto win that you contracted the virus there.
In order to get ANY virus through IRC chat one must accept a file transmission which contains the virus. There is no other way about it. If you did not accept anything like that then you DID NOT get the virus through IRC. Peer to peer chats include all the messaging clients such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ. Maybe consider looking around that field a little.
2. Just because a virus is called IRC.whatever it does not mean it can be contracted through IRC only. That's a fact.
3. When you have login problems contact me by email. Problems can be sorted out in no time.
4. Before causing panic of any proportions, one would be wise to investigate the cause and the medium of said virus distribution and origin. The effect of such "warnings" are quite lethal to users not in the know, who might simply discard chat all together.
5. I stand by my call of your lack of experience v8coupe. You only have to make up for 7 years to get where I am. In the meantime you would be well advised to do your homework.
