Irrelavant to the thread, but i just love the commentary when mike raymond is "crapping on" about how tidy the lap is, and "A man among men when it comes to touring car racing"
Brock has always said, he knew that Moff would be in the box saying " wwwweellllllll, peeeteeeerrr will be hearing every little rattle, so he decided to prove him wrong:D

Pete i cant remember which DVD its on but Brocky claims he did it to show Allan Moffat in some way. He knew as Moff would have been commentating and saying that he would have been nursing the car etc. So that why he did the lap just show how good the car was.

Yes, Brock said he wanted to show Moffat that despite leading the race all the way through, driving the wheels off the Torana, he could still put in a fastest lap right at the end, no sweat. It amused me (then annoyed the hell out of me) to read a letter in AMC a few issues back, clearly from a Moffat fan with one viewpoint and one alone, stating that what Brock meant was that he really desperately wanted to impress Moffat, like a school child wanting to impress his teacher.....Please Allan, look at me, look what I can do.....If that isn't a case of someone getting the wrong end of the stick, either deliberately or because of brain damage, I don't know what is.

yes i suppose in a way he didnt need to impress moff because moff already knew the gmh product of the time was invicible especially compared to the frail falcons of the time...the first 8 cars home were all toranas..

I think it was '79 because on the brochure of the Flamenco red A9X it says that he broke the lap record in 79:)

It is all on the DVD set of the great race.
Well worth having and playing when one is hunkering for a great race!
