Found these pics of a mocked up Police Monaro.
Hope it doesn't become a reality.

What state is using these ?
Do you know how many they have on the roads ?

From what I read was there is only 1 of these cars being used by the Victorian Police and only in the CBD. The car is on a trial and is being leased from HSV.

I am a fan of the HSV cars, but why wouldn't they use WRX's in the CBD !

To Grubby and others, it's difficult for a State Government to look seriously at alternative fleet cars if those cars are not manufactured in Australia ....in particular, Victoria and South Australia have vested interests in supporting Holden, Ford, and Mitsubishi products. In regard to the latter, we might soon see the all-wheel-drive Magna getting police vehicle consideration.

Interesting pic, Rob. Brings back memories of the big ol' XC Coupes the NSW Police used to use about '77/'78.
Good theory regarding the Magna, too. The current model is being used by some forces already.. I saw an unmarked Magna being used by NSW in the Blue Mtns yesterday. He'd caught someone, and was booking him as I drove past. I think the local command is using a variety of cars, since everyone got to know the Blue XR8 and the Green Commodore.
Cheers, ET351

Grubby,
Here in N.S.W. they used the WRX as
HIGHWAY PATROL cars but canned them
as they found out that the speedo had an
error of over 10 km's. People who were
booked had there points and fines refunded.

I remember reading that Volvo donated a couple of Turbocharged 850 all wheel drive wagons to the NSW police about 3 years ago. The first one was written off against a concrete wall only a week after they took delivery

Vic Police also have a SAAB doing the rounds in the new high visibility silver police colors.

This car got a go in the Herald-Sun (Melbourne) this week and the article said that the vehicle was to be used as a highly visual taxi for the Police around the CBD. I also heard that the use of this monaro is under very strick guide lines with no high speed action (pursuits etc) as they don't want to see the car bent and on the national news - kind of reminds me of what happined in WA when the 1st of the Gen III SS were given to the police.

Why would a Government even consider using a car that will cost $70,000.00 plus fitout. Looks like a Publicity Stunt for the Gov and for HSV.
Another senseless waste of Tax payer dollars.
