for those of you that have been waiting for some pics of my latest model, here is a shot of where i am at at the moment, this project has been put on hold though until i can find a way of making the badges (must be shiny chrome not silver) as the product i was going to use (omnichrom by letraset) is no longer being made and i can not find any back stock anywhere.
also, anyone that has modified cars or in the process of doing it, please post your pics here too.

this one is my LM-Spec monaro featured in the july 2002 Street machine magazine, just needs the roll cage to be modified and spoiler to be fitted properly then a bit of paint. (the front bumper will be fitted properly when it is fully assembled)

Here's mine Chups...... Can't wait to see your LM. You must have heaps more patience than me!!! I was getting very disgruntled when it came time to put it all back together. A lot harder than I was expecting. But well worth the effort. I might try one more custom, but I'll wait and see. I want to build an SV99, shouldn't be too hard, like your Senator, just a respray, I hope!! But I have a feeling one might be made by Biante anyway. I might find that out first eh!

i ran into that problem with the HSV GTS Coupe. i started building one from a monaro, then herd biante were doing one so i lost interest, and bought the biante one when it came out.
also with your supercoupe, did you put a coat of clear spray over the paint? i found it gives it that mirror finish that gloss spray paint just doesnt give. 3 coats is best. my senator will be getting is when its done.

While this is not technically a re-build it is a conversion I thought some of you may like
I hope it works
Glenn
ps if this pic works I will post my HRT scale garage pics and 1 of 1 monaro re-build.

Hey chups, did you get the Tiger Mica paint put into a spray pack, or did you get it painted elsewhere? I want to get Hackett Gold for my SV99, but wasn't sure if you can get it in a can.
chups
10-04-2003, 08:18 PM
i went to my local anchor paint place and got it in a spray can, $17 for the tiger mica and $10 for the clear spray (seems to make it more metallic and mirror finish) so $27 all up. id imagine hackett gold would be about the same price although these are perth prices. cant wait for the finished product.

I'm too impatient to wait and see if the crew at Biante will make the SV99 (asked but was told not in the near future), I have the red GTS ready to be stripped (swapped it for Lowndes and Skaife figurines), all I have to do is go to the Second hand HSV car yard down at Arncliffe to take all the necessary photos, get the paint, and get into it.
My green Walkie project has stalled for the time being, had some problem with the clear paint on the doors going weird, so I have to sand them back, wait for a day that's suitable for painting, and re-do the doors.
And I've started yet another custom. I'm building my very own privateer VT V8 Supercar, complete with my name and a few chosen sponsor decals. Not sure on the colour scheme yet, was thinking plain white to give it the full privateer look.
Will post all when complete. Customising is so addictive!!!!

my senator is also on hold at the moment, i need to buy a cheap clubby for some windows and the auto gearstick. then a little more paint on the interior and some clear exterior coats and itll be back underway.
(i need to stop starting new projects. (gt limo, Senator, diorama, LM-spec monaro, working lights on cop car, ute*, and just finished tiger mica SS and donut king SS)

I always start a new one when I'm only half way through a custom!!!! There needs to be another day in the week added to the calendar!!! We'll call it Customday!!!!

i agree, customday sounds like a great idea, inbetween friday and saturday i think. and half price models, tools, and accessories every customday.

glen, i thought id keep the mods in this post so its easier to find, not much has happened on the modifying front. i finished the lights and siren on my cop car and is currently on display in the gamesworld stand at autoexpo (perth) till monday. the siren isnt on as its in a glass cabinet so you cant hear it anyway, but im sure if you ask jerremy (tallish guy, 25-30yo ish) he might let you hear them. hes had alot of enquiries about it but i have to work out if its feasable.
i got some shots of the 1tonner so i can get the structural work underway and ive put a smashed up DJR car in my diorama. (the cars not astualls smashed up but it looks like it (when i get a pic youll see what i mean) im thinking about doing an under cover cop car which will basically be a cop car with lights removed and painted dark blue. ofcourse its going to have working lights, headlights, dash light, tail lights, and flashing blue/red lights behind the grill, and a flashing blue light on the roof. (im going to do this to my standard cop car too)
so thats where im at with my cars.
also, i had the same problem with the plastic parts kind of blistering and cracking. i sanded it back then put a few very light cotes allowing to touch dry before the next. of you could try an undercoat. i spose a hobby shop would sell something that may work.
Glen Alexander
26-04-2003, 09:18 PM
It's the undercoat that is going funny, I just sand it a little and spray, then sand and spray until i get the desired finish. Just got the boot to do, then clear coat the lot. With your cars, do you colour code the engine bay? It makes a huge difference to the overall finish. I did the Walkinshaw and SV99 bays, they look awesome.
chups
26-04-2003, 09:33 PM
i havent got the engine for my senator yet (the gts had the 300kw but the sen has a 255kw) but itll be the std HSV colour, black and silver. but when i did my convertable monaro, i colour coded the engine and interior. (yellow car, yellow/silger engine, yellow/black interior) it looked very nice, only the 4actual work wasnt that great so its gone to that big caryard in the sky (it became my test car for things like lights, cutting holes in the bonnet etc. i even experimented with an opening fuel cap but that didnt work too well)
Glen Alexander
26-04-2003, 09:38 PM
I used the engine from my concept coupe for the SV99. It just needs a touch of gold, it already has gold '5.7 Litre Alloy' on it. It is destiny that the SV99 has been built!! When I said engine bay, I meant the wheel arches inside, if you know what I mean, what would normally be the same colour as the car but black in all the AUTOart cars. Get what I mean, I don't!! All the steel panelling in the engine bay. I have a spare CV8 engine cover if you want it, if that's what your waiting for. Silver and black it is.
chups
26-04-2003, 09:51 PM
yeah if you wanna send it, email me and we'll see what we can work out. i have to re-paint it anyway cos the hsv ones are different, the monaro i think is silver with black accents wheras the hsv is black with silver accents or the other way around.
also for my senator i need a rear door window and a back window so i might buy a touring car and remove the name etc with toothpaste as i can get valvoline touring cars for $50. then ill have a spare touring car shell to do something with.
Glen Alexander
26-04-2003, 09:56 PM
I have all four doors from my Tander/Bargs Bathurst winner that I don't need as well.
chups
26-04-2003, 09:59 PM
cool, if i get them too, ill only need a rear window and my senator can resume modification. is that left over from your touring car monaro thing? if so then wouldnt you have the rear window too?
Malik
26-04-2003, 10:00 PM
how do you guys do it... I would love to be able to custom the models sometimes...
if I knew how.. Pyro Racing ute here I come... but all I can see me doing is stuffing up a nice expensive couple of models and ending up with something other then what I wanted to make...
Glen Alexander
26-04-2003, 10:04 PM
Trust me Malik, it comes with a s**tload of trial and error. I've binned heaps of models in trying out mods, spent heaps on stuff that is just rubbish now.
chups... I'm not sure, but I may have broken the back window removing it. It was a while ago, but I'll look in my spares.

id do pyro too if i had a ute model. what is it? a vn or vp or something isnt it? that would take alot of work as it would be basically a scratch built one.
as for stuffing up nice models, my first 1:18 was a convertable monaro. it wasnt the best, but it was a start. unfortionately it was done to a yellow monaro which these days are worth quite a bit. but ive got another yellow one un touched in my collection so its ok. just keep practicing and start small. (my first was a matchbox fj panelvan into a ute.)
Malik
26-04-2003, 10:23 PM
Pyro was originally a VN model ute... although very very modified now... I got some details on it somewhere in a photo.. Ill try find it and post the info tomorrow chups..
Malik
27-04-2003, 04:09 PM
ok the photos I thought I had either didnt work out or are on two remaining undeveloped rolls of traditional camera film I have still from before I got my digital camera.. Ill try to get there to get them developed this week sometime and put up the details then if they are on there.. otherwise Ill just have to wait until Im at the drags again which could be a while away seeing the season is over... oh well.. could always get in touch with the owner and visit his house... yeah that could work too... hehe

27-04-2003, 04:31 PM
ive got a pic or two at home with my motorvation pics and maybe one from the holden and ford show. and i didnt know it was road legal, i saw it driving down the fwy (towards rockingham) the other week. id love a model of this ute but its too hard without a VN base to make it out of. it would be possible for it to be done from a 1:43 CC VR but it woud be a hellava lotta work for someone to do. does it have a touring car front end? ifound a photo you posetd a while back but you cant see the front, im too impatient to wait till i get home 2moro night.
Malik
27-04-2003, 04:35 PM
the major body changes is a touring car front spoiler, the tonneau cover on the bank (got gas struts to lift with and hold up)
Touring car rear fin (or spoiler.. whatever ya call it) and that bumpy thing on the bonnet that VNs seemed to have.. not an intake.. just a bump lol.. I got more pics of it floating around. Ill find them and post a link...
Im kicking myself now for not having thought of it earlier and grabbed one or two of them 50 buck valvoline cars from expo to pull to bits and use parts.. takes car of front and rear spoilers for possible Pyro ute..
chups
27-04-2003, 04:44 PM
i think the VTs will still be avaliable at $50 at gamesworld stores till they sell out, but dont quote me on it. and a 1:18 pyro? now thats a real effort. and i thought it is a VR/VS front spoiler. but im not cutting up my brock mezera car to do it.
Malik
27-04-2003, 04:48 PM
from what i remember talking to the owner at quit motorplex one day it is actually a racing spoiler and fin.. quite expensive too at about a grand a peice.. the ute was mainly modified at the HDT guy up in perth from what I remember seeing on drivetime TV one nite...
http://hallsofdamnation.tripod.com/Stuff/Pyro/auto show.html
pics are up.. all I can find... if I find more though Ill add..
chups
27-04-2003, 05:05 PM
from those pics the front definately looks like a vr touring car spoiler and the lights look too curved to be from a VN. looks like i could start by making one from a 1:87 vr touring car key ring if i can find one (cc made them a while back. getting the decals made up is going to be hard though and i dont fancy the idea of hand painting it. hang on, im not allowed to start any more projects till ive finished some of my others.
Glen Alexander
27-04-2003, 05:10 PM
You'll start it chups!!! You won't be able to help yourself!!! I'll send you some parts tomorrow, can't find a back window yet, will have a look more.
Malik
27-04-2003, 05:19 PM
chups.. just uploading a couple more pics to that same address which show the entire car.. little on the dark site but you'll get the idea...
pretty sure it was originally a VN model but again would definately have to track down more info from the owner about it .. Im going on a conversation from over 12 months ago for details...
btw.. if you do have a go at this model.. let me know cos I will definately be in on it where I can and would be more then happy help pay for parts and stuff as long as your making 2 of them...
cos I want one too! hehe
chups
27-04-2003, 05:42 PM
i was planning on making u one if i did it, but youve blown your own surprise now. :p ill try to track down the keyrings. hopefully gamesworld still have some left. if not then i have a problem. if i make one, i could try to track down someone that can recast them in plastic or something. the paint job will be hard. i dont know if patto can do decals that small and he doesnt usually do custom decals. ive done a mock up 5second pic of the keyring. but it will need admin approval first.
p.s. jerremy if you read this, could you please hold 3 holden VR touring car keyrings for me for me.
Malik
27-04-2003, 05:44 PM
chups.. you mean the keyring size or 1:18 size? cos I was talkin 1:18 size hehehehhe... I was never one for thinking small ...
btw.. I actually hand paint the 35mm exaggerated Games Workship warhammer 40k (gamesworld have these too.. ) miniatures and have for some years so perhaps handpainting isnt out of the question... team effort Id say
chups
27-04-2003, 05:50 PM
a 1:18 would mean cuttin up a brock VR and rebuilding the ass end. then doin the engine etc. im not that good yet. if someone had a vn,p,s or vs model ute i would but without a ute base it would end up costing a few hundred to do in 1:18. if my keyring works then ill try a matchbox one if i can get one then a CC 1:43, and work my way up.
Malik
27-04-2003, 05:53 PM
something to plan for when one of the companies decides to put out a ute model of some description...
at least the CC utes are still available to test on.. I just dont have the knowledge to cut up it and other 1:43 scales to trial it and see what happens...
chups
28-04-2003, 06:04 PM
well malik, the keyrings were sold out at autoexpo but ive sourced a couple that i can hopefully pick up on thursday. the keyring should be a reasonably quick project if you want one. ill see how i go and ill post a pic when its done and you can decide if you want one. either way, im having one.
Malik
28-04-2003, 06:08 PM
no probs man.. should be good... checked out Great western trains near me and they still got some of the CC VU SS model utes in 1:43 for 40 bucks so I might talk to the guys and pick up one or two and have a play... Ive hacked and slashed more expensive models before so ill see how I got at a 1:43 scale one..
chups
28-04-2003, 08:06 PM
converting a VU to a VN would basically be a total rebuild. ive done a more involved mock up of the keyring (when approved) and it looks pretty sweet. a 1:43 from a CC VR would be ok, itd be rather involved (stretching chassis etc) but its doable whereas a 1:18 would require either vac forming or injection moulding, both of which are out of my league at the moment, to reconstruct the back of the ute.

Malik
28-04-2003, 08:53 PM
I guess it depends on actually how accurate you want the model to be... at a home done conversion model I doubt too many people would get overly picky about small things like a slight difference in body length and stuff like that...
I dont mine pullin apart a 1:43 scale and and throwing together the vu ute with some supercar parts.. painted up well and some may not see alot of the visual differences.. especially when some of them would be so small it wouldnt be easily put on a model...
a 1:18 scale would be ambitious but hopefully when one of the companies releases a 1:18 scale ute it will make life easier...
Hopefully...
still.. an interesting project.
My other interesting project planned when a ute model is released is gonna be a model of the Holden Stormriders stunt utes.. got some pics downloaded.. just need the model now.. maybe another one to start testing on a 1:43 scale CC Vu model.. couple of extras and its done by the looks.. mostly will be a paintjob model not conversions..
just saw the keyring.. is that a finished product.. cos that was quick if it was!! .. very very nice though... !

here is a pic of the first pyro keyring, still needs work donr on the back like the back window needs to be filed to less of an angle and the tourno cover needs to be a bit higher. final paint job will be smoother and have the yellow aswell but i was just testing how easy it is to do the flames.
also, your sv99 looks excellent, cant wait for it to be finished, should look just like a biante model.

got a question for chups or Glen being the avid model converters they are.... what brand of paints do you use on the models you convert?
Im asking cos I was looking at mine earlier to see what parts are what and was wondering what brands wont affect the plastic considering the spoilers and stuff are plastic on the models...
Leigh
08-05-2003, 06:33 AM
When I lived closer to Melbourne I used to buy regularly from Model Cars of the World. His new model prices are quite reasonable, although still a little higher than Gateway (I've bought from there too).
Once sold-out (and he genuinely sells out, unlike others) he buys models and the prices above (i would say) reflect what he paid (with a mark-up of course). Have a look at what he charges for a Brock 28C or 1 XU1...and he does sell them for that...
What turned me off Gateway was their policy of "If you want to buy model B then you HAVE to buy model A".
If he over estimated popularity of a model and ordered too many, tough, that is business, but don't pass the mistake onto me...

For the SV99 I had to get the paint put into a spray pack at my local paint supply shop. It is acrylic. I've used Tamiya plastic paints and also those touch up paints you get at Repco, Kmart etc. I never use enamels. For the plastic parts you'd be best off using a plastic primer, I've had a bit of trouble with the plastic parts on the SV99, gotta get some plastic primer. Make sure all the parts you paint are clean and free of any dirt or oils. Try not to touch the painted sections with bare hands, I wear gloves sometimes.

Your custom made cars look fantastic. I have a few holden V8 supercars I have brought that I wanted to modify to my liking but haven't done so yet.
Can you give me some advice on where to start my custom car. As I have said I have one complete supercar and one supercar in parts.

also i have included the pic of my smashed djr car, hopefully it works this time (dont worry admin its a CC)
Glen Alexander

Depends on what you want to do. I'm in the middle of making my own V8 Supercar. Will look like a privateer in plain white (Palais White, has to be a Holden colour!!), gotta get some 'Alexander' decals made for the windows, some numbers, think I might make it number 44 (don't ask why, don't know!!) and little V8 Supercar logos for above the number.
To take the car apart I got a small hacksaw blade and sawed off the mounts in the middle of the car attached to the chassis, this is so you can take it apart without breaking the sideskirts off (which is unavoidable in my history if you try to move them to take the screw out), this is easier for when you want to put it back together, it is really hard to get the skirts back on properly. Then you remove the front undertray and take the screws out of the front then unscrew the back ones. Once all that is done it is easy to take the rest of the car apart. I put all the screws I take out in separate bags and label them where they came from, this way you don't have a pile of screws lying around and you won't forget where they came from. From there let your imagination run wild. Modifying parts is a bit of hard work and can be more trouble than it's worth ie: My V8 SuperCoupe, 2 door V8 Supercar, was a nightmare and wouldn't try it again!!! ok, here is the latest pic of my diorama, the road is no longer there as i am re-doing it but it will be there when its finished. the main changes since last time are the gantrees (sp) and the merchandise area. also i have decided to change it to a 2002 diorama (due to more ref pics and more cars avaliable) so when ive got the new cars (on layby) they will go in. also if you want any of the small pics larger just email me and ill send them.

here is a pic just showing my HRT fuel filler man with my new duel filler line (had to make due to the change to 2002) and a tyre rack, i have also thrown in a blown tyre on the rack which will probably be off the kmart car in the finished diorama. also i threw in another pic of my pyro keyring.
and before anyone says anything, i know its an HRT guy re-fueling a DJR car and that with a smashed up front end like it is, it obviousely aint going back out on the track, and the spare tyres are white not red but you get that.

hey Glen does that mean that you wouldnt recomend me doing a V8 supercoupe like yours? Cos that was my plan I was gonna do the car up like what you have done except was gonna paint it up in the harlequin paint I was talking about on another thread and do it up differently sticker wise... IE do it up like a racing car with some sort of design and sponsors and such...

You could give it a go Malik, it just takes a lot of work. I could probably do it again and a better job of it because the first one was obviously the first go at it, I know what to expect and some ways of doing it better. You have to modify just about everything to do it right. You have to modify the front of the car to accomodate the engine cover, the rollcage, interior, the boot area, rear bumper bar, chassis, make new door trims from scratch, there's probably more, just can't remember. Might do it again one day, not too soon though, wasn't 100% happy with the first one (it is now dismantled awaiting some work). I might be able to finish my V8 supercar tomorrow (minus the new decals). If I do I'll post it straight away.

The colour is a Tamiya paint called Lime Green Candy. Yes, I did get another one to replace this one. Thanks for the compliments! Damn doors are causing me a headache though. I'm gonna paint strip them tomorrow, it must have got something on them in between coats of clear. Irritating!!!!!!!!

I am in the middle of four at the moment!!! I'm converting a red GTS into an SV99; a Blue CV8 into a black CV8 with tan leather interior and 300kw GTS motor; the Walkie; and a privateer V8 Supercar driven by myself converted from my HRT 2000 Bathurst car, all white, full privateer look. All this after I said I'd never do another one after the V8 SuperCoupe!!!!

well a thought I had was to combine the detail of the cabin from a biante car with the engine bay and boot detail from a CC supercar.. the store I go to has both but the best price on either makes it a 300 buck mistake if I dont do it right.. leaves absolute zero margin for error on my part cos I cant afford a replacement car.
chups
13-05-2003, 08:05 PM
i was actually thinking about doing that the other week in 1:43, getting a biante and a cc touring car and taking the best bits from each. (ie CC interior, chassis, Biante body)
Malik
13-05-2003, 08:21 PM
well I like the idea of being able to see an engine and not just an airbox... and the outside of the car I was gonna do up as a street car paint job anyways and not a racing car .. my only other thought was to get one of them covers like what biante has on the road car models they sell for the CC engine to cover the intake flutes but still be able to see the heads down the side.. but that means buying a possible third car and adding more expense...
the Lions Den in Carrilion City has 2000 model Skaife 1:18 cars for $85 so I might call them in the morning and see if they will post one to me
either way Im spending 150 on a CC car if I decide to go that way

Hey Malik...... Why don't you wait till the V8 round at Barbagello? If you're close to that you could possibly get the 2000 HRT cars in 1:18 for $49 from the HRT stand. They had them at Phillip Island and Eastern Creek for this price. Also the Brock/Baird Bathurst car in 1:18 for i think $79. Worth the wait I reckon.

This was a failed custom rejuvenated into something. After braking vital components I decided to write the model off and try make something out of it. I'm gonna make a side of the road setting and sit the car on bricks in it. Should look different, haven't seen any other dioramas like what I plan on doing. Here's a pic of the car, not 100% finished, but pretty much complete.

Not much in the way of custom work, but I lowered the front of my Walkinshaw to a more respectable height than the standard issue. It was pretty easy to do, just had to take the front assembly off and file down the strut/spring part a couple of millimetres. Looks a lot better than the height it came out in, standard it didn't look like a Walkie spose to, almost on the ground!!!

The lowering of the front is easy to do and makes so much difference in the overall look of the car. The model is great, but my only vice with it is that the front was too high.

time to ressurect another old thread...
go HERE (http://vanpyremodels.servepics.com/vm/gallery/dis playimage.php?album=46&pos=0) for progress pics on my first attempted conversion jobbie... stealing an idea from Glen (sorry m8) this is gonna be my own privateer type supercar entry..
unfortunaty it would only be legal in streetracing and not in the V8's .. details so far are:
this WAS a 2000 model Bargs GRM car (No. 35).. the two pics in the series so far show it after owning it about 6 hours.. and the second after a coupla hours in acetone and under a scrubbin brush..
the car itself is gonna end up at this stage with...
1. V10 Dodge Vyper engine under the hood..
2. Dodge Vyper rims and tyres, slighty lowered at the front with
the wheels tucked in under the body (drag car like)
3. Red underglow (Fast and the Furious like)
4. NOS system (well appearance of.. bottles in back of cabin if I
can find some the right size and shape)
thats it for now.. more updates as I can be bothered doing them.. or think them up :)

unfortunately cos I couldnt get the biante wheels apart and the brakes off the vyper looked crap I figured I would go without them on this one...
am planning a second one at some stage with underglow and stuff again... will definately have brakes on that one and there will be some other changed based on what I learned from doing this one.. the main one being to use a road car as a base and NOT a race car... I might do one based on the up-coming SS road car from biante when we see it and combine it with racing parts.. easier to clean up at least.. no bloody stickers..

Malik, if that's your first go at it it's pretty bloody good. It all comes with trial and error. I've trashed a few models while making my customs, I still do re: my WRX that I broke and had to make it into a burnt out wreck to salvage it!!!!
I found the best way to get a clean finish is to totally strip it down to metal with paint stripper. Of course you can't do it to the plastic parts, but some fine sanding will get most of the decals off. That gives the best finish because you don't end up with too thick a layer of paint on it and it has more detail.
I still don't understand how your wheels didn't just pop off.

I did the paint of the metal with acetone and it did the job quite nicely... as for the wheels. I got no idea man.. I did everything short of nuke them and they would NOT come off.. so I dunno on that one...
as I said this model isnt perfect but I like it considering its the first go.. the next one though is gonna be a race car / road car hybrid and use the racing parts onto a road car.. should come up cleaner I think and I want to have the interior to do more too..

This one is on hold at the moment. All the metal parts have been sprayed and have come up extremely well. But the bumper bars are giving me hell. It's something to do with the plastic parts and acrylic paint that don't like each other!!! I have to sand all the paint off both of them and start again, not fun. I got the paint from my local paint supply shop. They put it in a spray can for $25. Not sure where you would get the paint from in the US, do you think the Postal Service would like to post spray cans in the mail? Maybe with all this world terror stuff they would think it was some kind of device.
The paint code for Hackett Golden/Saffron is E048. It is under the GM paint code here in Oz, you could try your paint supply shop there, you never know, you might get lucky.
Working on a black CV8 Monaro with tan leather interior and HSV GTS motor and lime green V8 Supercar and Citric Acid Subaru Impreza WRX at the moment!!!
Hey chups, what kind of paint did you use for your Senator? Did you have any trouble with your bumper bars? Seeing as the cars are sprayed with baked enamel I thought this might be a reason, can you get the paints in enamel?

yeah my plastic bits gave me hell too, i just used a primer from bunnings which helped it a bit in the end.
Glen Alexander
19-06-2003, 08:42 PM
I tried acrylic primer in the touch up cans, that's where my nightmares started on the plastic parts (except the side skirts). What I have found just recently is if I use Tamiya plastic primer, the paint sticks better. It's just that I found out that after my bumpers stuffed up big time.
Goldie, it depends on how much time you spend on them each day. If you started in the morning and went until night, you could finish one in a few days I reckon, giving paints proper time to cure is the most important part of a custom. It usually takes me a few weeks to finish one, I don't do it every day, and if I do it for too long in a day I lose interest.

Nice wheels... I am looking for a spare set for my 92 car. Did you buy another 91 GTR?
Glen Alexander
24-06-2003, 08:50 PM
The picture is not actually posted on the forum, it is on Vanpyre's website and I made a link to the page. I bought another 91 Skyline for the wheels, but I am using other parts of it for another custom, so It's not like I bought a whole model for the wheels, that'd be silly!!! I need the engine and driveline from it for something else, so it's a little silly!! and expensive!!It makes it look heaps better don't you think? I thought you'd reply to this one Gan, I saw you wanted to do the same thing. I'm really happy with it. I saw some photos of the real cars engine bay on a website and might consider trying to scratch build all the stainless plumbing and stuff like that, but my skills aren't that great so I think it'd be a failure. But it doesn't hurt to try.
Gan88

Glen,
I am really tempted to buy a second 91 GTR to hack away at but I am trying to resist the temptation.
Are there more pics of your 92 car. I want to be really happy with the look before I "invest" $170 for a set of wheels.
Glen Alexander
25-06-2003, 12:04 PM
I will take some more this weekend (meaning over the next couple of days, it is my weekend!), just gotta put an aerial in the roof. What's your email address? I can send you all the pics in a larger size so you can get a good look at it, it looks so much better. I'm using the engine and driveline for something else, so it's not a total waste of $170!!!! I'm also going to use the spare car in a workshop diorama, so it will be put to good use still.
Glen Alexander
25-06-2003, 12:07 PM
P.S. It was the easiest conversion I've ever done, the quality of the build is not the greatest and the wheels just come straight off without even taking the car apart, brake disc quality is horrid, no caliper or anything like AUTOart cars to disconnect before yanking wheels off, just a little pull at em and they're off.

My brother may make me an axle and some wheels for my mustang that I have been doing for a while now. I broke one of the wheels when putting the trim back on so he said he would try to make me some wheels at work for me in his spare time.
The undercoat is on it now, but in this weather the paint doesnt set the way I would like so I may have to wait until September to paint it. Anyway Ive got to make a new gear sick for it now cause I dropped the paint on the interior and it broke off, just like the clips for the wheels and steerring.
Glen Alexander
25-06-2003, 01:54 PM
I have a Mustang custom in the pipeline myself. I have already stripped my AUTOart GT390, gonna paint it gun metal grey, put in CV8 Monaro front seats, later on get a Mustang Cobra R and put the fuel injected V8 into it. And I'll find some nice wheels for it too, lower it and modernise it a little. I've got a few projects incomplete, so I'll put this one away for a while.

Havent had a computer for 8 weeks cause we got problems with the motherboard and a mega virus infecting the computer and destroying just about everything on it. Am currently using an internet cafe to get back in touch with whats going on.
Lots of problems with the mustang, here is a few
moving steering parts broken (trying to make what I need out of a piece of coathanger wire!), clips for all wheels broke off when I pulled the model apart, wheel trim & wheel broke when I was putting one back together etc etc.
No pics either. Dad uses ther camera for work and hes away nearly all the time.

Yeah. I still haven't got the right stuff for a proper black background. I think Barney66 said he used black foam sheeting and a mirror. I only have a piece of glass from a photo frame and a black towel. I have to black out the towel in PhotoShop.

For my second Walkie custom I was trying to fit the Skyline GTR engine and driveline but found it will take too much work, and I don't want to waste a whole Walkie in case I stuff it up. If I find another Walkie at the right price, I might give it a go, there is so much work involved in doing it, I'd really love to pull it off. But it is coming along nicely what I've done at the moment, and I'll post pics when it's finished.

You must have a lot more time on your hands than me at the moment Malik, you're pumping out a few customs!!!! I haven't even finished any of mine!!! Pulled the Green Walkie down to finish it 100%, but started another Walkie project which looks even better!!!! Gotta do my Privateer V8 Supercar, Black CV8 Monaro, CV8 Monaro convertable, a friend's privateer V8 Supercar!!! And I don't have time for any of them. Oh yeah, I also have the 91 Skyline workshop diorama to do some day. And my SV99!!!!!!!!!!!! And a couple of WRXs come to mind as well, one in Citric Acid and the other in a yet undecided colour.
Chups, love the hummer!!! Is it 1:18 and what brand hummer did you use? What colour is it going to be? I think Gloss black with tan interior would look exquisite!!!!! You'll have to give me some detailed pics on the build stages of stretching a model. I want to give it a go, but don't know where to start. I wouldn't mind doing a stretch Wlakie myself, but I'll wait till you do it so you can claim first prize for the awesome model.

not so much time Glen.. just the mods arent very involved.. the black 1:43 concept coupe took me about an hour and the ponty firebird took about 4 hours on a day off... took more to cut the bonnet then to build the thing in the end (and I was watching DareDevil during the making of this model)

the hummer stretch is a johny lightning 1:24 jurassic park hummer. its going to be very dark metallic green. as for building a stretch, im still experimenting so i dont quite know what works well, thats why im doing a few test cars before i do my walkie. for the hummer, i just glued some support rails under the roof and along the side then started filling it in. there is still a little body twist though that i want to stop before doing the walkie.
you could try doing a stretch torana as you can get them about $90 each for the XU1s whereas the walkies cost about $160 or $20 depending on where you get them from (sorry malik, i know i said i wouldnt rub it in any more but HA)

Nick,
I haven't finished mine yet, it has been put away for a while. Just gotta redo the front and rear bars as I am having paint problems with them. I saw one on the buy/sell/swap here on Biante and got the guy to send me photos. He painted the seats in what looked like metallic gold, which I didn't really like. I can't find a paint close enough to the proper colour so I'm doing them dark tan, it's close, but not quite dark enough. But it looks good anyway.
I might give a stretch a go one day, I'll just finish all my other ones first, probably practice on a Maisto or something cheap like that.
Malik
29-07-2003, 12:30 PM
Glen, if you can find out the colour that you want for the seats and get a colour code go and find a place called Anchor Paint Place and they can mix pretty much any colour you want into a spray tin for 17 bucks..
I dont know where you are in the country but anchor is over here so if you cant find on wherever you are drop me a line and Ill get it made for you and send it (if I can) otherwise I can get a little tin of it made instead..
Glen Alexander
29-07-2003, 12:38 PM
I've already done them dark tan, but the real colour is a bit browner than what I have done. I'm pretty happy with what I've ended up with, but thanks anyway mate. I like the Firebird, did I see a couple of turbos in there!!!????
Malik
29-07-2003, 10:36 PM
yeah I had a thingy that looked like a turbo so I chucked it in up the back... the engine bay looked bland with just the engine so I figured I'd jazz it up a bit... chances are nothing there has a corresponding component on a real car but hey.. it looks the part.
