Does anyone out there actually own a Brock/Richards #05,Harvey/Harrop #26,79' A9X Torana's 1:43 in the Dinkum Classics in the small cardboard tube?
How many were made....how much were they when they were released.....when were they released?
What would they be worth now?
Just curious to find out,as I have had these for about 4 years now.
I got the #26 first and asked the model shop about the 05 car....he said.....good luck in trying to find one!
Low and behold.....2 weeks later I get a phone call from the model shop saying that somebody had traded in the 05 car on something else!.....I dropped everything at work and bolted to the shop. These are easily my favorite 2 models (apart from all the Biante models):D
Does anyone also have them? They both have the full Marlboro livery, and I had Brock and Richards sign the roof and hatch.....they also spent about a minute looking at the model.....they seemed to have that glitter in their eyes......memories....WHAT A CAR!
P.S.......I'll be taking these 2 to my grave!:D

You asked this question at the right time. I was just browsing through the list of models at www.modelcars.com.au and was actually looking at some of the dinkum classics cars. Whilst they did not have the particualr ones you have, they have a number of A9X's of different drivers from 76,77,78.
They seem to be going for around $165-185 each, but yours having been signed etc, could potentially attract a better price. Obviously not much of an issue if you aren't going to sell them, but it is always good justification to the Missus telling her how their value grows

I would be VERY careful about Dinkum Classic models.
Reason being is as follows:
Dinkum make a particular series of model, 99 to be exact. When they sell out they often re-produce the EXACT same model either under a different tube or different name. In the end a series of 99 can turn out to be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
You get the idea dont you.
Dont buy a Dinkum because of its re-sale value. Put simply it doesnt really have one. If you shop hard enough you can still find Dinkums which people have claimed to have sold out years ago with the same retail price.
Buy Dinkum because you like to have a particular model no one else has made.

If you like a model that is way overpriced, of poor quality (compared to what is now avaliable) & made in small volumes ? then a Dinkum is for you.
I would only purchase one if i couldn't get that model made by anyone else as their quality hasn't changed for the past 10 years !!!!!
Before Biante I wouldn't hesitate saved up to buy one of these, but now i wouldn't bother, as even though they are a low volume model, just are simply overpriced compared to a model of simular quality (Trax springs to mind).
I bought a DJR AU Ute for $XXXX and now I see classic and Biante are going to make them - for more that 1/2 the price I might add !!!
For me to purchase another Dinkum they need to dramatically improve their quality and have a dramatic price reduction - like that will happen !!!!!
cheers.
I'm considering doing a collection of" Bathurst legends debut year cars" series.
I've started with a Perkins/Janson 1977 Torana by Trax and considering a 1969 HDT Monaro 2 set by Trax and a Johnson/Forbes 1973 XU-1 torana.
I'm not sure if there are any Moffat #61 Bathurst 1969 GTHO phase 1's?can anyone help?

Take a look at Sold.com.au Both the 05 & 26 A9X's from 1979 are currently up for bids.
In the past 2 days on Sold.com.au a Dinkum model of the 05 A9X for 1978 went for $310
plus
Dinkum model 05 VH Commodore for 1982 went for $641!

All i can say is that the person who sold it made a KILLING

Sorry to resurrect an old threat, but where exactly can one buy Dinkum Classic models? I don't think I've ever been into a model shop that sells them (I'm in Melbourne if that's a help).

G'day Dingo,
Model Cars of the World in Burwood stock Dinkum Classics in both 1:43 and 1:24
Go to http://www.modelcars.com.au/ click on search by manufacturer and scroll down to Dinkum Classics 1:24 or 1:43. Many of them have pictures.
Cheers
Just a follow up on my previous post above-
I've got the Trax Bahurst 69 Monaro set and its signed by Brock and Bond.
The Dinkim Johnson/Bob Forbes 73 Torana (DJ's Bathurst debut) is too dear and I hope Biante will be making that #10 purple XU-1 Torana, like the Zupps one already released.

If you are looking for a good production of the 1978/79 A9X Torana then see if you can find the Model Cars Australia version.
It was made in France for them. A great little resin kit that you could make either the 78 or 79 cars.
It came with photoetched wipers, ss badge and rims.
The kits were worth $60.
The best place to start the hunt for one of these kits is Model cars too in Sydney.

In Melbourne, the best place to buy Dinkum is Australian Motorsport Models in St Georges Rd, North Fitzroy. They have the best selection of Dinkums you will ever see -- they specialise in them -- and have reasonable prices.
Re the criticism of Dinkums -- I have the 1/43 Dinkum Tru-Blu, Greenstuf, XA Coupes, Nissan Skyline KDR, and the Marlboro Holdens. Yes I may have paid $150-$300 for them, and they may not be Biante/CC quality, but I'll be able to enjoy my complete collection of Bathurst winners & poles for a long time before these cars are made by CC/Biante (if ever).
Cheers !

given the cost of these cars Vs biante and CC which are better quality there is no way I will be rushing out to buy them...

Dinkums were made between 1980 - 2000.They made many models that raced at Bathurst, over 500 models in 1/43 scale.Sreet ,Bathurst and ATCC.They may not be up to the quality of todays models, but in their day they were the best around. They will always be far more collectable than whats available today because of limited numbers produced. They still hold their value plus. You wont see CC or Biante 1/43 models making an investment for you.Sadly they are no longer produced. The few critics on this forum of other brands wouldn't know half the history of what was available by Dinkum or other Australian maufacturers, before todays models appeared.I agree the CC and Biante are the benchmark of 1/43 scale models worlwide now.Remember many others were produced without todays technology nearly 20 plus years ago.I agree with the remark concerning the French resin kits, they were great and still are if you can find them.I'm lucky to have most.Try and enjoy your hobby without knocking the other manufactured brands of years gone. They still fill many of the gaps for you,and i don't think many of those older models will ever be produced today.I collect anything Aussie made in 1/43, even plastic.

Anyone got any of these 4sale?
And yes i have 1/18 Biante's & trax.
Biante1478 do you have a phone number or is there a web page for Australian motorsport models?
Also i was told Dinkum Classic's are opening shop again.

I have all Brock bathurst winners, sister cars and the two Austin A30's and they look great, yep i paid big money for them, and there isnt much detail, but back then we had no choice and compared to the crappy trax models, these were gold. I wonder how long it is going to take Biante to release all the Brock bathurst winners, I'm not getting any younger:(
