I just had to vent my anger after having just discovered an auction on "trademe.co.nz" regarding some lowlife profit seeking so called collector trying to sell off a pair of 1:64 biante minicars 28c & 24c that he has blatently & admittingly FORGED the signature of the late Peter Brock RIP.
I am sickened by this & even the use of words like " very professional". Any ideas members of a way to eradicate this kind of vermin?
maybe Biante could revoke his membership???

cut & pasted from his ad

"This is a set of two 1/64 scale cars by Biante of Brockys first Bathurst winning Torana XUI 28c and the sister car of Colin Bond... Brock won his first Bathurst and Bond ended in a crumpled heap!!
I had my set of these cars personally hand signed at Bathurst in 2005. This is another set that I had intended to get signed, however with Brockys untimely death this will not happen.
The signed cards inside both these cars, in this auction are very professional and high quality copies of the cards from my personal & original hand signed set.... its scary how impossible it is to tell. To prevent these signed cards being passed off as original hand signed items I have used very similar card to Biante, however it is white backed card not grey as Biante always use.
The original unsigned cards are also included in this auction; however having the signed copy cards inside adds great interest and point of difference to your collection. "

He says they are copies, not forgeries...careful, else you'll find a defamation suit on your doorstep...

I am not condoning his actions at all, but there is a huge difference between what he has done and what you are alledging he has done.

I see what youre saying. I still consider it to be of bad taste & think he should destroy the cards & desist with this kinda marketing.

I thought the RIP stickers, coplete with signatures, that were being sold by every Joe at his memorial service were in extremely bad taste...none of them that I could see were being sold by people identified as "Brock Foundation" staff:rolleyes:

Nothing you can really do to stop it:(

Also he has fully disclosed that they are copies.
A small part of me says it's good for someone to buy who obviously now can't get PB's signature.
The bigger part of me says that there is a potential for future fraud & potential that the market will be flooded with copies in years to come which should be nipped in the bud now before it get out of hand.

I am very cautious/wary with signed stuff available now, especially those sportstar type stores. But then i guess someone can walk into my "shrine" and ask me to prove that all my signatures are genuine.. I cant prove it, but i know it;)

This might be an emerging market for handwriting experts to issue certificates of authentictiy for such items.
Where do I sign up for the course?

I don't have a problem with this auction as the guy clearly states it is a copy and explains what he has done.

I've actually brought stuff off him in the past and have found him to be very trustworthy and honest. He sells quite a bit of Brock (and other V8) stuff through TradeMe, and I think he is a genuine Brock fan. In my opinion, I don't believe he is trying to deceive anyone and I don't believe it's unethical.

In fact, I might even bid....;)

Cant see the problem at all with this auction, nowhere does it say they are genuine, quite the oppposite in fact, hes just giving someone a copy of the sig he has and has clearly stated that to avoid any confusion. This is no different to the Holden printing it on posters etc etc.

As for items claimed to be the real thing with nothing to back it up. Anyone buying signed items needs to be aware there are people out there that can sign items the same as your favorite celebrity. Buy from places with a reputation that can guarantee beyond all doubt the item is signed. Lots of places supply photos of the item being signed.

Why people pay extra for sigs that cant be varified is a mystery. It could be signed by anyone. Buyer beware
