AUSTRALIAN KARTERS SET TO DESCEND ON EASTERN CREEK THIS EASTER
Karting drivers from all across Australia will converge on Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway to contest the 45th Australian Sprint Kart National Championships presented by Yamaha and Dunlop this Easter (April 6-8).
With 433 entries received for the Championships the event will be the largest meeting conducted by the North Shore Kart Club at the venue for several years. The last event incorporating over 400 drivers and prestige was the 2002 New South Wales State Championships where 420 drivers competed.
Earlier this month the venue hosted the opening round of the Premier State Cup. Over 300 drivers assembled for this meeting to gain valuable track time prior to the upcoming National Championships
A total of 10 categories will be competing throughout the weekend with a massive 58 drivers set to line up for the prestigious Clubman Light championship.
While Mason Merritt may not be defending the title he won in South Australia last year the field is one of the best assembled for many years. Victorian James Sera will start as one of the favourites courtesy of his numerous state titles over the past 12 months. However, Sera will face tough opposition from his cousin David, Matt Wall, Bart Price, Western Australian Deepal Kandola and Queenslander Scott Auld just to name a few.
David Sera will also contest the Leopard Light category where he and defending Australian champion, Matt Wall, will resume their battle for the major events. Between the two they claimed the victory in almost every major event in 2006.
There will be 46 drivers lining up to contest the elite Junior Clubman category. A total of ten local drivers including Nicholas Tanti, James Kovacic and David Whitmore will be in action.
The largest class is Senior National Light with 63 entries being received.
“It is great to see so many drivers traveling from all across Australia, along with a huge number of local drivers, heading to Eastern Creek as they aspire to become National Champion in their respective classes,” said Australian Karting Association President Richard Erdmann.
“Every year the National Championships continue to grow and with the help of the North Shore Kart Club this year is set to be one of the best events ever held.”

Well, being Easter again, its also time for the AKA Karting Nationals again. Its going to be a huuuge weekend. I strongly reccommend any locals to make the trek out - it'll be some of the best racing you'll see all year!
