I am happy to say I have my own room for my collection. All the cars are left in there boxes displayed on shelves. I would LOVE to see all the models made in boxes with the clear window so you can display the without taking them out of the boxes, which I refuse to do. I didn't buy the Brock Bathurst car for this reason, it is in one of those boxes! Does anyone else out there agree with me?????????

I still think that you should show you models off ,thats why you buy them. A good dust proof cabinet makes all the difference and as for the see through boxes, i don't think there a good idea there easy damaged, and any way who wants or has the room to put them on display. All my cars look nice sitting together in my cabinet.

I have my models displayed in a glass cabinet with glass shelves so you can see the detail from all angles. I have 55 models and my cabinet can only hold 28 so I really need to invest in a new cabinet. I'd rather see the models on display in a cabinet than leave them in the boxes because you can only see them from one side and top. What about all that great detail under the bonnet, boot, interior and underneath the car? But, each to their own.

Mine all come out of the boxes and into a display cabinet. The boxes dont do them justice. The detail cant be appreciated in the box. Thats my thoughts anyway!!!

Mine are all 1/43, which makes it easier. They're all on shelves at eye height in our lounge-room where I can see them anytime. So far I have 1 shelf for road cars & 1 for race. I just add more shelves as I need them. Yes, they get dusty, but I buy them to admire them, not hide them in a box.

Made my own display cabinets to match my furniture and suit my needs. I have duplicate copies of my favourite models which stay in their boxes. Change the display around every now and again to show off different models.

I don't understand why you would keep them in the boxes unless of course you don't have a display cabinet?! Like others have said it does them no justice and you cannot admire the model's detail.
I don't like the clear window face boxes, there is less chance of damaging the box and model in the other style + there is less tape holding the doors and bonnet closed (which is a pain when getting the model out).
As soon as I get a new model it is opened and into the display cabinet :D I love them!
Before I had my display cabinet they were in the boxes to keep them away from dust but as soon as the display cabinet arrived they were straight in!! Much better out of the box than in.

This topic was discussed at length only a couple of months ago at most. For some strange reason, many collectors see the box as an integral part of the model. I'll never understand this. Its only meant to be packaging, and when it comes to displaying the models even the window boxes hide the very thing thats sets Biante model apart from the pretenders: that is, the detail. Sure, I keep the boxes but the cars are meant to be displayed. Even if you might sell them one day, I can't see how the models are devalued so long as both model and box are in perfect condition.

as i still live with my parents i cant go building them into bars or have my own room for my models but i have got modt of them displayed. most of them are in my room on shelves, on my chest of drawers, on my tv. my 1:43 CC cars are in my sisters room (she moved out but her stuff is still in there) and my fav models take pride of place smack bang on top of the TV cabinet in the living room. one day i hope to get a cabinet made for my sisters room (2m X 1.7m X .5m quoted $1400 full glass and mirrors) when she moves her stuff out.

p.s. i get away with having my models in the living room because after years of mum saying "stop wasting your money on TOYS" she bought a lascer then one day when she was getting it serviced, she saw a little 'collectable model' lancer. she thought it was amazing someone made little cars with that mugh detail so she bought it and put it in the living room. then it looked out of place so i put some of my cars there and it fitted in. and mow she has a lot of appreciation for my cars.

i am also working on a 1:43 pit lane diarama to display some of my cars. its 1200mm long and has 5 pit bays and a fenced off area for whatever, maybe some 'show cars' or a grand stand or even a merchandise truck, i havent decided yet.

Please chups if it is not to much trouble to give us the inside scoop on how to make these fantastic diaramas. I have always wanted to make one of these but lacked the right direction. I would be indebted to you if you could share with us your expertise from materials used to how to get scale pit crew with current V8 Team logos.

Regards and looking forward to your reply

If you didn't buy the Brock VX Bathurst car because it was in the closed box then you missed out on a great model for (in my opinion) a very silly reason.

These things are built to be displayed and enjoyed, not taking them out of the box defeats the purpose as you might as well by old CC 1:43 models if you aren't interested in looking at the detail.

I agree with keeping them in mint condition and keeping the boxes but never opening the boxes seems to be taking that too far.

But, then again, each to their own.

My models are currently all boxed up and in a safe place. But I can't wait until we move and I get them out and display them all.

If I was going to keep them all boxed and hidded away I might as well sell them all.

as stated on a previous post this matter of in the box or out has been discussed before..

another item that was mentioned on the previous thread was the packaging of the 1:43 models. having never collected these i did not understand but after recieving my set of 1:43 xys today i see how they are packaged in display quality hard plastic dustproof cases.

i have a number of the 4 up autoart display cases for the 1:18s and i know single cases are available for reasonable charge...but why do the 1:18s not come standard like this?????

for display you can leave them in the box or take them out.
there is no fear of dust or damage to the model and no need to remove the model from its base....even the MIB collectors would be happy.

i cant remember if this topic was expanded last time

whats your thoughts?

I have mine in two display cabinets with glass shelves from IKEA.

I put halogen spotlights in the roof myself. Very low wattage,10w I think so there is no heat build up.

It looks great especially at night (funny that!). Even my wife agrees that it looks OK. She hates my models..................

Friends always comment on the cabinets and they only cost around $200 each.

Hey Terrine, did you get your xy's in 1:43 from Stanbridge's?? And did you get all 11?

I'm curious from our previous discussions...........

Cheers,

I had a large cabinet built about 5yrs ago, cost about $1300 at the time but was worth it.
It has glass shelfs and mirrod back each shelf can comfortably hold 7 x 1/18 scale and has a total of 14 shelfs that are now full.
All new models are now sitting in there boxs on the floor until I get another cabinet built.
My 1/43 scale are in the autoart cabinet on the wall, but now I need a new one of those as well.

:D

PS.
We have decided to build a new home and the wife is letting me get a study totaly for the models. Can not wait !!!

I see. IKEA is a store, not a brand name. Thanks Terrine
