I am a Holden fan but the BA Falcon looks far better than VY. Vote for which you think looks better.

Saw my first BA yesterday. Thought it was an Electric Blue AU Tickford approaching it looked that good, but lo & behold it was a common garden variety XT (Base Model) BA Falcon. The VY is alright, but I think the original VT was the best looker in this body shell. It's gone downhill since then.

I'm torn between the 'Two Evils', they both have their good points.

If you line up 2 AU's next to 2 Barra's, it's very hard to pick which is which, unless it's an XR. If you do the same with the VX & VY Commodores, its easy to see wich one is the new one.
Put a new Barra next to an EL Fairmont and from the front view it would be hard to pick the new car.
I like both for different reasons, but if I had to buy one, I'd choose the Commodore. Simply because I fear there are too many new items that could go wrong on the Falcon. I might be a little on the cautious side, but I was once told "never buy the first of a new model, wait for the second one when they've got it right" by an old friend & going on past expirences, he right.
But there's nothing quite like having the first one around the block.
Each to their own I suppose.

People I know call the new VY a ( MAGNADORE ) look at the rear end, is it a Magna rear end on a commodore or what???

There's more to it than looks, and while some criticise the new BA for being conservative, I prefer it's 'simpler' exterior and interior design. In the past I preferred the VT for the same reasons.
I'm not a fan of "change for change's sake" and I consider the VY body end sections to be too fussy and the same goes for the instrument binnacle design.
Plus, take a look at the BA spec sheet.... that base 4.0 litre engine pumps out more power and torque than Holden's supercharged 3.8 V6.
I've priced my bargain pick of the BA crop at $39,990 plus on road costs.
Base manual trans XT model Falcon :
$33,640.00 ( includes air con ) plus.....
$ 255.00 Premium paint - Silhouette (Black - W/Charcoal trim)
$1,390.00 17" wheel/tyre package.
$ 330.00 Sports suspension.
$ 360.00 Limited Slip Diff.
$2,090.00 Electric Sunroof.
$ 500.00 Side impact airbags.
$ 430.00 Cruise Control.
$ 800.00 Ford/Momo Leather steering wheel ( Blue accents)
$ 195.00 Ford/Momo Leather gearknob ( Blue accents )
What do you reckon guys ??

Looks good Graeme.
I like the sunroof, colour, and the momo gear. I have to wonder though why in the hell dont car makers in Australia offer cruise as standard. Yeah I know they make more money out of the consumer.
It seemed to me when driving different cars in the states, every car seemed to have cruise as standard. Come on lets get the same here in Australia.
The Mrs and I will not be looking at another new car for a few years to come but I think when the time comes we will be looking at a XR6 Turbo.
I picked the Falcon over the commodore and it is not because I am a Ford fan. I dont really like the look of the VY. I felt the VT & VX were a much better looking car over the AU models.

Anyone know just how much the XR8 will be when it is finally raleased in March next year ????
I've seen an add for a CAT who are giving away an XR8 Ute & it quotes the RRP as $49,000 !!! - what a price hike from the old AU !!!
Now I know that there are many new things & the massive increase in power, but it still an expensive ute.
I wonder if Holden has increased production of the SS Ute as I think that if this price is true then there may well be a rush on the Holden as its' only around $42,000 on the road.
So, if the XR8 Ute will cost close to $ 50k, does this mean the sedan will be close to $60k ????
food for thougth,
Cheers.

Nice package Graeme!
I think that I will hang on to my VT (series 2) until the series 2 Barra is released. I also am of the opinion that a new model which has a serious upgrade needs some road time to smooth out the bugs.
Plus, the series 2 tends to have some of the extras included as standard, like the cruise and electric windows.
For mine, the Barra is visually more appealling. I've decided that I dont like that stupid teardrop that the VY's have on the headlights. I find it detracting from the smooth lines and tend to see it as unnecessary.
I am a holden man, and I reckon the basic BA falcon is nothing special in looks wise now that I have seen a few on the road. However, I can't wait to see the XR's in the flesh, they look tough. As for the VY "magnadore", thats all bullcrap. What do people expect, just keep the same shape ongoing as the VT model. Holden is giving it's clients something different with the VY, trying to just spice it up a little. The sharp lines look good, it's the direction all car manufacturers are heading. take a look at the new SS and honestly tell me you would'nt own one, they look awesome.

I'm with you John with the SS. The pictures simply don't give it any justice. In the flesh they look awesome !!!!
Saw my first SS Ute last week in red & it was sensational!!!
Now if Ford has improve their realiabilty with the Barra, there should be a good fight, when all of the Barra's & VY's are out there on the street.
If anything, we the customers, will be the big winners with such great cars comming from the big two !
cheers.

I have seen more VYs on the road than the new BA... maybe the Holden salespeople should go over to Ford to try and sell a few more???

Yeah the pictures of the VY don't do it justice. I saw my first VY SS last week, they look awsome! In the flesh the rear doesn't look anything like a magna's.
Take a second look people.
I doin't have a problem with the rear of the new VY and agree that they have just taken a new direction with design. I have to admit that the new XR's look good but the rest of the base Falcon range is pretty ordinary looking. Saying that, I'm not all that fussed on the funny little egg cup light on the VY headlights. Does anyone else think that at a quick glance, the rear of the BA looks like a VX?
I prefer the Holden ute over the Ford ute. The holden looks like a more complete design whereas the Ford looks like a tray that has been slapped onto the front half of a Falcon. The line between the cab and tray doesn't look as smooth as the Holdens clean lines.

Absolutely no idea! I HOPE NOT! the commodore looks fugly in the rear, and the front end is overdone. the BA looks muck better in the front and rear.
I vote falcon.:cool:
Like I said I am a Holden man, yet I am really looking forward to seeing the new XR6 Turbo & XR8 on the road, but our SS is out NOW and it's HOT.

I wonder how the 1 tonne Holden tray will look like when it arrives next year (around March from last word).
cheers.
I've seen a 50/50 average of BA's and VY's in Hornsby on the road.
The only good VY would be the SS but all BA's are great.
Has anyone seen a Cadbury purple colour on a VX Wagon.
It was a Cadbury company car I saw a faew weeks ago.Any one else seen one for themselves?

Yep, I see a Puke Purple Cadbury Commodore Wagon around Canberra regularly, unfortunately. Reminds me of all the Shriek Orange Ramset cars you used to see.

The rear of the falcon definitly looks like a VX.
I must admit, when I first saw the ads and articles I told my missus that if I were in the market, I'd buy a falcon. After seeing them in the flesh I changed my mind and recon holden should get new photographers....

BA (Bad Ass) The pics of the GT and GT-P are awesome so is the Pursuit Ute. I wish Ford would wake up and bring them to the States.I'm looking forward to seeing the BA GT at Fords 100th in Dearborn next June.

Im not being smart, but everytime I see a new BA Falcon on the road, it takes me a few seconds to focus in on the lights to actually realise it's the new model. From far it appears as an EL , then similar to the AU. Untill it is up really close, I can then distingiush the new model. Is it only my eyes? .. or have others noticed this as well?

John,
I agree whole heartely with you, as i've already said in this thread.
Isn't it interesting how most the Holden yards, now have pleanty of the new VY. Yet most of the Ford yards a still full of the AU's, with very few Barra Falcon to be seen.
As least I don't own a AU!!!
Gee i feel sorry for them (AU non XR owners), when it comes for them to try and sell it, I think they might have trouble getting any money for them.
cheers.

BA, definately a BA, although the BA xt base model is a bit plain jane. If I had the money I would go out tomorrow and buy a new citric acid Xr8.

From someone who couldn't purchase either one if he wanted to, the BA wins, hands down.
The VY looks much better than its predecessor, but the BA's front end does it for me.

Thats strange... there are two in the car yard down the road in that colour but they could be the 2003 model though, so of course being 2nd hand. I would most likely buy a good second hand one. If not citric acid then any colour would do me!!!!
Thanks brchi17
