Since Graeme Started asking and halbaster suggested it lets start a poll as to how we would like the LJ XU1's made.

Personally with the Sprintmasters would be better as we already have the LC XU1 with steel wheels so the alloys would make it look that bit more different.

We have plenty of LJ's with the Globes, so I'd prefer some steelies;)

I really don't see why we need yet another LJ if the only difference is paint colour...That's what I like about the 1:18 GT's, each one has different options...

I think theres been enough with Sprintmasters, even though they look great, a couple of them with the original nibblers would be great

here's mine...I'd love to some nibless wheels added to the LJ. I was hoping for a cyan metallic / steel wheel combo. But since the 06 historic was realeased in this colour , I don't think I'll get my wish...and the mudflaps too lol

Whitlam,

XU123's pic shows the sprintmasters/alloys/globes on the car in the background and his car has the steelies/nibles;)

Cheers

I have never heard of "nibless" wheels ?? .. What's the background behind that name ?

The wheels on the xu-1 were different to any other torana steelie in the fact that they never had the hubcap retaining lugs...they somehow got the nickname of "nibless" wheels compared to other torana wheels which had the "nibs" on them to hold the hubcaps on. They are very rare and hard to find. Most , I imagine were tossed out and replaced with sprintmasters or mags early on...

What about the Pink one from the HDT days, that car did have a 6 in it from memory and also a different interior but only had steelies, otherwise i still prefer the Sprintmasters

Thanks Graeme i couldnt find a picture quick enough to attach. Are there any plans for that car to be made with either a 6 or 8 in it?

I assume the 8 you are referring to is one of the few prototypes that were built by GM. I know one was in Strike me Pink. I thought this was destroyed. Are there any picks of it anywhere?

That would be one of my favourite colours for the XU-1, yes.
Reason being is my first car was an LJ 4 door 2850 in this colour. Years later when I could afford an XU-1, I found the one in the pic (as a road car) in the same colour. I had to have it even though at the time the $10k I paid seemed over the top premium price for a mint XU-1. So I cut it up and turned it into a race car.

If I had have just kept it and not done a thing it would probably be worth $80-100k now.

I think I'll go off and slit my wrists :-)

We have spoken to Harry Firth about such things as the XU-1 V8 or XU-2 as some refer to it ... but that's all I can say for the moment.

Toad,

I have similar stories to tell as well ... like a genuine ex-HDT racing A9X that maybe I could have purchased from Wayne Negus way back in 1980 for the princely sum of $15,000 or thereabouts. These cars, along with real estate, have just skyrocketed in value in the last 3 to 4 years.

For anyone interested in the Torana XU-2, this pic should set the tongues wagging ...

Whitlam asked about the visual differences between the wheels ... here are a couple of close-up images ... you can see that the plain steel wheels shown here are the 'nibbed ' variety ...

Some of the early LC xu-1s came out with the nibbed wheels..
Come on Graeme...do it on the next XU-1 released...

Very happy to hear this. This car would have been an absolute weapon and would have left the phase 4 behind imho (but thats a whole other topic to argue :p)
Which one were you talking to him about Graeme? The pink one I hope... :D ;)

I could be wrong, but as far as I know all of the XU1's had Sprintmasters.

The GTR's had the nibless steelies.

How about the left side of the car has one type and the right the other then its up to you which way you want to display it :D

No , all xu-1s left the factory with steel "nibless" wheels. Sprintmasters were a dealer fitted option. GTR's had "nibbed" steel wheels painted silver.
