TO ALL THE MONARO EXPERTS. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHETHER THE EARLY MODEL MONARO'S WERE PAINTED IN MONACO MAROON? I HAD A HT MODEL IN GREEN BACK IN THE 70'S BUT DO NOT RECALL ANY MODEL IN MAROON.

You could try contacting the Monaro Club Australia by phone or email. They have a great web site , but most of it is under construction at the moment. Their encyclopedia won't be ready for at least six months...

Thanks 7litre.
Yes, Monaco Maroon Metallic was a HT (GTS only) colour. It had the Persian Gold rally stripes as standard (hence Biante's prototype model is incorrect, Warrigal Black was not available for that colour) unless deleted on order (only the bonnet stripes could be deleted, not the side stripes). Verdoro Green Metallic was the only other colour in the HT GTS range that had Persian Gold rally stripes.
Lets hope Biante's prototype is being corrected (indicators, GTS badge location, stripe colouring, steering wheel colour, hubcap colour), although im sure the Biante team know what they are doing! Well, we know that they know what they are doing, otherwise we wouldnt be buying their models right!?!?
Im working on a list of colour combo's available for the Monaro, LS, SS, LE and GTS, GTS327/350, at Biante's request. Lets hope >>THEY DONT<< make every colour available, as there as hundreds from HK-HZ. That would be $15,000 worth of 1:18 Monaros!!
As for the website, it is being worked on, but im not uploading the info yet. Ive found that everytime i let a bit of info out, i get inundated with requests or questions about other things. I cant handle the number of questions i get now, so im hoping to have the encylopeadia released when its got a fair amount of content ready. Im happy to take contributions if anyone is interested in helping out.
7 Litre - thanks for the site info, Perry - thanks for the clarification. I still can't recall the maroon colour - hope biante brings the new model out as the original. Even though i have switched camp - and am now a ford lover, i have always liked the early Monaro, their style will be remembered for a long time to come.
Even though the new model has it's following, i don't feel it will impact on our motoring history as the early models did, but time will tell.
regards

Hey Guys,
I been chasing colours of HK to HZ colours for the past 6 months with not very much success. When I read your post Perry, I thought of an old Holden Magazine I have tucked away in the cupboard, to my suprise I found another exclusively to HT range and that's Sebring Orange W Black Stripes. I just wish with all the 'General's Motor Men of Wisdom' could possilbly answer my question.
A little bit of Trivia for you all, Inca Gold is not an exclusive colour to HK.

I have full lists of paint colours and codes, including body, and interior (yes, interior... as in which colour, gloss levels, where they are painted, and for which interior combo's, etc, etc), for all models from HK-HZ. From memory, this list also includes some commodores, and earlier holdens, but i was only concerned about the HK-HZ range.
Getting the time to transfer this info into html is another matter...
As for Inca Gold, the following manufacturers have used Inca Gold:
Proton, Volkswagon, Pontiac, GM USA, Ford Europe, GMH, Chrysler, etc etc.
Now, 7litre, what was your question??????

Perry,
When I looked through the magazine 'The Holden Collection' which was published in about 1986 it states HK came out in Four exclusive colours :- Bright Blue Metallic, Warwick Yellow, Silver Mink & Picardy Red. Presuming that any other colour came from the Premier Colour range.
As for HT we have established Sebring Orange, Monaco Maroon & Veroda Green as an exclusive colour, what else was there ?
Also could you provide any other information on exclusive HG, HQ, HJ, HX & HZ Monaro's exterior colours please?
Thanks for you time Perry,
Regards 7 Litre.

7litre, im working on that side of the website now, so you'll have to wait. Sorry.
The more time spent helping out one person, the less chance the 20,000+ visitors a month to www.monaro.com.au dont get what they want.
Sorry, but i have to draw the line somewhere!! Ive even got friends answering my emails because i cant keep up!

Perry,
Now perhaps the members who demand instant responses will appreciate my position...I get an average of 250 emails a day, monitor the website which has 22 million visitors a year plus doing development and flying off on interstate and overseas business trips and run a company into the bargain.
It aint easy...but it's fun!!
I will post ALL the HG GTS colours and trims tomorrow, so that will help everyone a bit.

I've just been reading Wheels magazine's road test of a 1970 HT GTS 350 outfitted in all the options, including aircon, automatic transmission, power steering, and a vinyl roof, all for a bargain price of around $4,600.00.
The car tested was painted Kashmir White with black accent stripes and a black vinyl roof. The black interior featured the new houndstooth nylonised fabric seat facings (black and white), and optional reclining mechanism for the front bucket seats, an overall package which drew this comment: "....a combination which was quite rare at the time but very pukka."
Apparently, and no doubt Perry can confirm, the automatic version of the HT GTS 350 featured 'softer' coil springs to improve ride qualities.... the magazine article suggests that this car was marketed more toward your middle-age crisis Premier/Brougham type of customer.
Of the power steering, Wheels says "....is direct and has sufficient feeling to keep the driver vaguely informed of what the front wheels are really doing." I'm not sure what sort of recommendation that purports to be, but they do go on to say that "....it is sensitive enough to allow good control and accurate placement at fast touring speeds."
As for the 2speed Powerglide transmission, the road testers reckoned this to be delightful in it's mating to the big torquey V8, and stated "....the successful marriage is borne out by outright acceleration figures which are only fractionally slower than the manual car."
For those of you who like the numbers, the GTS 350 AUTO put down a consistent standing quarter mile time of 16.0 seconds with a terminal speed of 90mph (approx 145kph), with change-up from 1st to 2nd (top) gear at around the 11 second mark at a speed of 75mph (approx 120kph). Top speed was said to be 118mph (approx 175kph) and all this with fuel economy of around 12mpg (around about 5km/litre).

HG GTS colours are:
Kashmir White code 1192
Indy Orange code 1199
Rally Red code 1800
Burnished Bronze 1803
Cameo Gold code 1804
Florentine Gold code 1805
Lakeside Green 1806
Mediterranean Blue 1807
Silver Mist 1808
Electra Blue 1809
All but Burnished Bronze were available with Black vinyl or cloth trim and there were 13 trim combinations in total counting cloth and vinyl.
Colours of trim were Black, Gold, Red. Orange, Green and Sandalwood.
Black seats could also be ordered with Orange cloth instead of White houndstooth inserts, but only on Kasmir White and Indy Orange cars.
Hope that helps.

I must say that the pic of the Monaco Maroon HT Monaro looks much better with the Gold Stripes, really looking forward to that and the Indy Orange HG version. Hopefully a Warwick Yellow HK Monaro will be done in 1:18 and a Verado Green HT with gold stripes (not like the 1:43 with black stripes) as I reckon these were the most popular colours.
Keep up the great work Biante,
Cheers, Jason :D

Does this mean the Brock 1969 HT Monaro GTS and the Bond/Roberts Bathurst Winner will not to be far away in 2003??? :D

Orange cloth was actually Orange Houndstooth, and yes, it looks fantastic.
As for the spring rates (front only):
380-400 lb/in HT GTS 350 Auto
400-420 lb/in HT GTS 350 Auto Air Con
720 lb/in HT GTS 350 Manual
Trivia: Monaro buyers in QLD could by a new Monaro with a white painted roof. Not available in other states.
Trivia: There is no such thing as HK or HG Bathurst. Only the HT was called a "Bathurst", and even then not really officially (it was a marketing slogan).
Trevor, do you still need the colour combo's??

Just had a look at model No A73411 - looks absolutely brilliant. Even though I am a ford lover, I am looking forward to adding this to the collection. As some of the other members have said, it would be great to see some more of the earlier model monaro's made in 1/18.
Thanks
