Hi,
I'm new to biante model cars and recently had a look at all the cars that biante has released since mid 1998 and then there was this...

' August, 1998 - Dealers display model - Ultra white - 900 pcs. Some had single mirrors and some twin. THESE ARE NOT PART OF THE COLLECTION but some shopkeepers sold them and now they change hands at crazy money. '

I buy alot of my models off the net on www.sold.com.au and on ebay. While i was browsing i saw an Ultra White XY Falcon Twin Mirror up for auction at sold. The address is:
http://au.page.sold.yahoo.com/au/auction/511558939 ?aucview=0x23

I was just wondering what kind of 'crazy money' these things actually pull? Considering this one hasn't got any bidders yet.

Thanks Guys.

I would estimate anywhere between $800 to $1500.....crazy, but they do sell.

Hi george these models sell for $1500-$2000 crazy money and there not part of the collection they were given to model shops so they could see what sort of product biante were making so why people pay these prices is beyond most model collectors.

really? thats amazing. is there anyone here who would actually pay that kind of money for this car?

Yes, people do pay this sot of money but not me!

I was wondering that since some people out there modify their models, has someone converted a white falcon from single to twin mirror.

Is there anyway knowing if a white twin mirror is the genuine article and not a modified one?

Does the certificate state anything?

If a single mirror car sells for $450 - $550 and a double sells around $1500 there must be somebody out there who wants an extra grand will convert one.

Hi bathurstfan you could put the left hand mirror on from another car but you wont have the certificate that states 1 of 900. but really there are only 136 that really have the left mirror . if you come across one and the person selling it says they dont have the certificate be cautious people i know have been caught like that. if you have a twin mirror why wouldnt you have the certificate so be carefull hope this helps.

They are part of a Ford Dealership who have opened a dedicated model shop.
By the way, the white two mirror car has an indent in the left hand door where the mirror fits in. If it looks flush with the metal, it is probably a white mirror stuck onto a non recessed door. A fake!!

Are you saying that you think this one is a fake or that i should check it if i were thinking of bidding on it?

I am just giving everyone the means to identify a real one.
If you are buying from the internet, or sight unseen, the main rule applies...let the buyer beware!

oh righto, i might question Darcys Model Cars again and ask for a clearer and closer picture of the left hand door. And maybe a pic of the certificate. i found their site: http://www.darcysmodelcars.com its good compared to some ive seen.

GTO,

If you want an idea of model prices have at look at

www.gatewaymodels.com.au

look under AUSTRALIAN MODELS

I don't use Gateway myself - anymore

ok then, thanks. Its good but its set out pretty messy. I'm a bit of a computer nerd you see and i like a good design. Darcys seems to be set out nicely. Into different catorgories and you can choose if you want to see a photo which is good if your into fast net surfing.

Why did you say anymore? is there a problem with them?

Not sure if we are on the same planet GTO_madness!!
You asked who they were....I told you.
As some help for you and others to identify a real one, I gave you some more information.
Nothing more and nothing less.
The decision is up to you!

I just checked out that site on the link provided and if you are new to Biante model collecting, shop around, sure they may have the twin mirror job that your looking for but all the other prices listed there are well and truly over the top. Do people actually buy at those prices ???

Admin - is there any way to tell the single mirror 1/900 cars from the 'other' single mirror release apart from the certificate?

I buy a lot of models from Darceys and they are excellent on the new release items. I am not sure about the old ones and their prices as I don't keep track of the ones I already have.

Have you seen there new homepage? Its great compared to the boring nothingness they had before. It must have only been changed today as it wasnt like this last night. The rest of the site seems the same. Just more content on the homepage i think.

gto madnes thats why they still have them. its not that they have them so they must sell them.any genuine collector laughs at those prices. you must be stupid to pay that sort of money or very rich.

well everyone has their own pricing scheme. All their prices arnt that bad.

btw you say 995 for a bathurst farewell set? where does it say that?

ducksguts
22-11-2002, 08:11 PM
GTO the only people silly enough to pay those absurd prices are the first time buyers , nobody who has half a clue about biante models would say these prices are reasonable.

i guess there are plenty of ignorant people about though.

HDT 4 EVER
22-11-2002, 08:16 PM

In defense of Dale who I have been buying new releases from for about a year, I have never paid more than the recommended retail price and often get them for a little less.

It is my understanding (as I am not sitting next to him counting his models) that most of the older models have been purchased on the secondary market so that he has them to offer to clients. This is no different than what many other dealers do including Gateway.

As far as prices of these models, I would imagine that they would be determined buy the purchase price on the second hand market plus some profit. The beauty of a free economy market is that if the prices are too high then they will not sell. Flicking around quickly I see some prices cheaper than Gateway and some more expensive. Soooo... if I was looking to buy these items I would probably shop at both places.

Anyway Dale is a good guy, he has looked after me better than a certain dealer in Melbourne I used to deal with and one on the north coast of NSW as well. I will continue to buy from him for all my new cars.

Well i recently enquired about a few models from his site and he seems to be a really good bloke to deal with.

Anyway i dont know why this conversation changed from the White Twin Mirror XY to prices but id like to know if anybody here has ever bought one?

I can get you a clean XY or XW for that kind of money.....1:1 scale they go for about $1800 up around here......sure beats shrinking yourself to fit inside the model, coz for that money you'd want the bugger to start.

A model is only worth to you what you are prepared to pay for it. I have a white twin mirror and had to pay drug money for it , but consider it a must for my collection. They may come down in value but I'm not concernd. When the '99 Bathurst cars were released they skyrocketed in price due to demand but are now continually falling in price. The market usually sets the price not the seller. I enjoy looking at my models everyday and am continually amazed by the increasing level of detail. I started collecting late and had to pay market price for the earlier models, and it will be no different to those who are starting out now on this addiction.

Does one little extra mirror justify this car being triple in price to the standard single mirror car, not for me it doesn't.

The only car I regret not having is the Moffat 65e Bathurst Winner, I did not know about the 1st batch of Biante cars back then. My 1st car was the Moffat Phase 2.

I have never sold a model, however the only way I can justify getting the Moffat 65e is to either:

1) Pay the MARKET PRICE of around $500.00 - $600.00 or,

2) Take a gamble & buy two cars (one to keep, one to sell) like the Green XE or DJ Sierra and sell one at the peak of its demand to cover costs of getting the 65e.

Trouble is how do you pick which car to get two of?

Glenn

It is not the extra mirror that justifies its price, it is the rarity of the item.
