I have a small collection of road cars, I recently got a blue 06 LJ XU1. I'd like to remove the 06 door stickers. I thought they would surrender easily but they appear to be sprayed over with clear.
Any suggestions on the best way to remove them?

I have the same model XU1 and will soon be sending it away to be painted, so if you want me to give a few methods a try, be a guinea pig so to speak, no probs.
I might try a product called muck off, its like a graffiti remover which can be used stronger or weaker.
Any more ideas I`ll be glad to give a go.

should be just a tampo...so look up threads on getting these off. Pretty sure most people use dilute acetone, or acetone based nail polish;)

What exactly is tampo?.
I sanded one of these no 6 decals off and it appears to me to be painted on, even the number etc.

The technique of applying the printed decals is "tampo printing". Yes they are essentially paint, but in general they can be removed from the base colour without damage to the base colour and without the need for abrasives...
There is a detailed description of how they are applied to a model at the factory somewhere on this forum...

Tampo prints are literally paint stamps. They aren't applied as a decal or sticker but are stamped onto the body panels using an etched tampo plate and soft rubber pad which picks the paint up off the plate and then applies the paint to the model part. The paint is extremely thin and dries in a matter of seconds. I've watched 1:18 scale BMW boot logo's being produced in about 3 seconds and that's with three paint applications (large which circle, then blue centre, then black outer ring).

Thanks Leigh and Richard I thought it was paint!.
Well anyhow I found out how to remove the no 6 decal also the biante decal on the windscreen for those interested.
Here is the info below as it was sent to me from someone who did it to perfection on thier own custom job.
--------------------------------------------------------
I used acetone free nail polish remover for the 06 on the doors... Make sure you mask off the mirrors and any chrome work (ie mirrors, windscreen wipers and door handles), the black at the bottom of the doors (if leaving blue)
I used Methylated Spirits for the decal on the windscreen. It takes a bit longer to get off the windscreen but with a soaked rag sat over the writing for a couple of minutes makes removal a little easier.
Make sure you mask the edges of the screen if you want to leave the silver on there... or get a fine silver paint pen from an art store and redo it later.

Thanks to Ben for this info!!.
And thanks O9WNS for the link!.

i have used finger nail polish remover and a cotton ball to remove tampos from models and it works great. if you use stronger asetone in large amounts it can soften the base coat of paint and make it bubble up from the metal body. just use regular finger nail polish remover to remove the 06 tampos from the doors and then give it a good waxing and it will look as good as new.
as far as the biante logo on the plastic windscreen well i wouldn't use finger nail polish remover as it will make the clear plastic turn white from the fumes like superglue.
i have had success using clear rubbing alchaol on clear plastic for removing decals and tampos, you can also wax the plastic wind screen once the tampo is removed it want hurt it plus it will look good and help keep dust from sticking to it so easily when cleaning in the future . your only other options are leave the biante logo on the windscreen or replace the windscreen with a doaner from one of the previously released torana street cars. cheers

I used prepsol to remove the 06 today, probably took me an hour all up, looks pretty good and got peoples attention immediately.... For the moment i have put black tape across the screen which looks neat enough....

Thanks to all concerned for the suggestions, I used nail polish remover (acetone type) to remove the 06 from the doors and they came off quick and easy with no danage to the paint underneath. I used metho to take the windscreen stripe off it took a while, but did a good job.
Thanks again for all the suggestions

Anyone want to post a pic of the "naked" torana.
I'm undecided if I should remove the 06 or not.
