We better turn our attention to the BIG race as it will be less than 2 months and the cars will be climbing the mountain, another 2 odd more months and the 2008 Bathurst 1000 winner Vodafone 888 will be safely in our cabinet
Ohhh what a feeling!
I for one cannot wait for the model to be released, it will be stunning like the 2006 Bathurst winner (with Trophy)
Look at the victory lane laid on for this stunning car and sensational driver!!

spoonster05
08-08-2007, 10:01 AM
$150 per site this year, probably $155 next year for a 10m x 8m block of land (although our sites last year were huge, obviously whoever measured them couldn't read a tape measure...)
The previous years site holders get first rights of refusal to the sites for the year after so you can keep the same sites year after year providing you return the booking form before the sites open to the public
wayno
08-08-2007, 10:03 AM
I think the site itself is around the $150 mark, but then you have all your extras like firewood, admission, etc.
Then there's the matter of what's available. Like real estate it's location, location, location! :D

A recent study found that the average Australian walks about 900 miles per year.
Another study found that Australians drink an average of 22 gallons of
beer per year.
That means on average, Australians get 41 miles per gallon.
Isn't that great?
Now in metric after using this cal. http://mpg.webix.co.uk

True, nearly every year someone thinks of something else that may be handy or is a good idea
We'd never go back to flying up to Sydney and hiring a car and taking up limited gear like we were doing 4 or 5 years ago. While it was still fantastic it's much nicer to have a set-up that allows you to not have to go down the bottom of the mountain to get food, etc nearly every day
Not to mention of course having to be prepared for all weather conditions as well

A local bus company is doin a special, i know its not that exciting on a bus, but it is easy this way
toddy05
09-08-2007, 06:43 PM
did a bus one once from Toowoomba, I was in such a rush to get to the pits once we got there (around lunch on Saturday) that I got them to drop me at the bottom and i would eventually make my way to the top. Eventually did but had forgotten to ask where there site was. Took 2 hrs to find. Could not be bothered setting up the provided tent so i just slept in the cargo hold of the bus where the drivers also did. I just forgot a pillow and did not bring a mattress but who cares I was at the hill. Loved it...
toddy05
09-08-2007, 06:46 PM
also did another one on the bus with a Qld HSV club years ago, 1996 and this one was a ripper because we stayed at the clubhouse at Forest's Elbow. On the Friday night The HRT drivers all came up and spent an hour and a half there and then drove off in the GTSR. Absolutely memorable time. I drove from Toowoomba to Brisbane to catch the bus then thought it was rather ironic that the bus went through Toowoomba and down the Newell.....

I know who is gunna win and I shall drop some clues:
It will have a Ford nine inch diff aprropriate to AVESCO
It will have double wishbone front suspension
It shall have a 6 speed hollinger
It will have an Alcon brake package
Anyone guessed yet?
Oh and the clincher it will be either a Folden or a Hord....:>:>:>:>
Anyways I shall be there, well not there at Bathurst but at my mates place for the 4th year running where we shall crank it up at 7 am with bacon and egg rolls roll through the day with chips and bread lunch before going home square eyed and pleased that one of my two fave teams have won- Holden or Ford.
I almost was planning on riding the Southbank to Southport hundred km ride but then realised on the 4th most holy day of the year (behind Christmas, Good Friday and Easter...NOT AFL grand final, ARL grand final and Sandown....) that I could not break tradition. Well actually my pregnant wife strongly hinted that she was not in favour of waking up two under 3's as well as herself at 4am to drive me in to southbank and then kill some time before driving to Southport to collect me. Plus I could not afford a tv attachment on the bike to be able to watch it. Oh yeah the organisers won't change the date either....

As I recall, he actually won the odd race in that car, while "Formula Sierra" was all the rage, which was better than he managed in the Beemers, wasn't it?
AS for madness, that would've been the whole Polariser/ Holden split thing that LEAD to the Sierra, hmmm?

I'll be at Bathurst this year, and would quite like to visit Club Wayno to say hello (hopefully kiwi ford fans are accepted!). When you say "don't visit us while racing is on", is that just the V8's and or any racing?

We usually go on safari whilst the V8's are on as we like to see a different corner for every session. Sometimes we get back during the day. We are usually back at camp pretty quickly after the last V8 session of the day though, if only because we're out of beer by then! :D
Closer to time, if anyone is interested, I think it might be time to swap some mobile numbers via pm's. Once the schedule for the meeting is released I'll have more of an idea of what we will be doing.

New safety measures for Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000
Release Date: 30/08/2007 V8 Supercars Australia has announced a plan to inform all spectators at this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 of new security and safety measures to be introduced.
V8 Supercars Australia, the Bathurst Regional Council and New South Wales Police Force have agreed on joint initiatives that will bring the 2007 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 into line with international events.
These initiatives will be relayed to the public and spectators through various means in the coming weeks. The New South Wales Police Force will also release more specific details on their input into security at the event.
The event will fall into line with New South Wales legislation with the designation of licensed areas to comply with the legislative requirements for the responsible service of alcohol, random breath testing of vehicles within the circuit, improved access procedures and requirement of photo identification for all patrons.
“These are amongst many initiatives that will bring the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 into line with international standards and ensure that the event complies with the laws of New South Wales,” V8 Supercar Events General Manager Shane Howard said.
“Ultimately these measures are designed to ensure a safe event for all patrons. With a growing number of children and families attending the event we want to make sure they have the best possible experience.”
The event attracts around 33,000 campers each year who spend up to a week on the Mountain, making the carnival far more challenging logistically than single day events for organisors, Police and security.
V8 Supercar events plans night time entertainment on and off track for the campers. This includes nightly screening of race action on a big screen, a concert including the Hilltop Hoods and other bands as well as movie nights for families and spectators.
New licenced areas will be designated on the pit straight viewing area as well as areas of the Reid and Sulman Parks. More licenced areas will be designated in 2008. No alcohol can be taken into or out of these areas.
Campers are still able to bring alcohol into the camping areas but discretionary limits will be applied by Police and security. That alcohol can then only be consumed in those areas.
Non-camping patrons attending on single days are also not permitted to bring alcohol into the venue. These patrons can purchase alcohol when inside the precinct from the licenced outlets at reasonable cost.
All patrons will be required to possess photo identification on entry and wear armbands that confirm they are paying patrons. This will assist Police to enforce the laws of underage drinking and limit troublemakers accessing the event without the relevant event ticket.
All entry points will be subject to increased policing and security presence to ensure there are not excessive limits of alcohol and any other form of illegal materials being brought into the precinct.
These are joint measures in the agreement between V8 Supercars Australia, the Bathurst Regional Council and New South Wales Police Force.
“We are working together on this and whilst there are some changes to how things may have happened in the past our goal is for minimum disruption to those patrons doing the right thing,” Mr Howard said.
“We have a contract with Police that requires us to help provide these resources which is a normal process. After some negotiation we are pleased with the outcome and looking forward to a successful event.”
The plan has been several months in the making. It is the culmination of several months of combined effort to ensure event security is paramount for the estimated 190,000 patrons and thousands of families attending.

They had a couple of small areas fenced off at Reid Sulman as licenced areas last year, by the sounds of this these are going to be increasing ?
How can they judge what acceptable amounts of alcohol are as if you have someone buying for a group of 15-20 blokes then that's going be quite a few slabs
Be interesting to see if all this is done by the book as in the past they have announced things but security, etc haven't followed through

That's the concern for us as well, we buy most of our weekly supply in one hit as we get a better deal that way and it saves us any more trips down the bottom of the mountain
It would be a real pain if we would have to make a couple of trips up and back so we had 'acceptable' amounts
Kind of like the person who posted on here about being asked why they had a bulk pack of toilet paper in their car and it was for a big group camping up there....
Looks like once again the actions of a small minority will ruin it for the rest of us that like a drink with mates while watching the racing but don't get violent or destructive

Done;
What is the idea of changing the Bathurst race start time? It is an absolute disgrace typical of the management of this category. Letting tv run over our sports traditions is something you should all be ashamed of. First you lock us in to a pathetic host broadcaster and then let them ride rough-shot over the two biggest races of the year.
Please leave motorsport alone and go and find another sport to ruin.

"I am disappointed at the alteration to the start time posted on the web page here for the great race - the Bathurst 1000. The race has started at 10am sharp for the last umpteen years, and is as much a tradition as kangaroo's, meat pies and holden cars!
Leave tradition alone and respect the fans that have made V8SA what is is today before you drive us away forever. I am not alone in my protest and hope many others also make their points clear to you and race start is returned to its traditional time, 10 am!"

Anyway this is the motor sports event of the year & I have been to a few in my time - Daytona 400, Indy 500, Le Mans, FI in a few countries but nothing beats BATHURST & although Brocky is gone it will always be the best - just hope the wankers at V8 Australia don't totally ruin this truly fantastic race.

So please explain as me and maybe others as to how these " wankers " could totally ruin Bathurst.??
I didn't realsie it had been partially ruin already.

First they try to move the dawn service for ANZAC day away from...umm... dawn, now this, 7 has done nothing but dissapoint V8 fans pretty well all year.
Never thought i would say this but i would prefer 10, with Diffey and Rust, than 7 for 2007.

So first , Who is " they"?
And I know that Ch7 coverage of the V8 has been crap BUT how can they totally ruin Bathurst. AS long as it goes ahead in my view it will be Bathurst as usual. Be 1/2 hour early or 1/2 late as long as it goes ahead ?
Also V8 fans are not the only people on CH 7 list of priorities. Blame Avesco, Tega, Cams, my grandmother , whatever, whoever arranged the deal with CH7 .
As long as it is televised I do not care , I can not see "they" ruining Bathurst completely.

I thought it was obvious SEVEN 7
Ruining Bathurst????? Just frustrating that they are trying to change tradition for ratings.
I know were not the only people on there priority list, but promises were made and i am of the opinion that they (7) are not as good coverage wise as 10. Just my opinion.

THEY are V8 Australia & that moron Cochrane.
Once again they are trying to get only weekend warriors & the corporate rich people into the best spots & stuff the real supporters - US.
THEY are putting in more corporate viewing areas up on top.
" have jacked up the prices for the camp sites - ONCE AGAIN.
" are going to limit the amount of alcohol we take up there.
" have changed the traditional starting time - for who knows what reason.
I have no problem with change & trying to control some of the idiots that go up there to cause problems but year after year there is another thing we are not allowed to do.
My mates & I go there to have fun but in all the years I have been there we have not caused any trouble yet we are the ones getting constantly battered.
Unless you have been there as long as we have then you have no idea what is happening.

[/FONT]New licenced areas will be designated on the pit straight viewing area as well as areas of the Reid and Sulman Parks.
The reasonable amounts line has me mildly concerned, although when they did this at Summernats, it put no limits at all on "Campers";)
How I read the above statement is that if you are not a "camper", the only way you'll get alcohol is in one of the fenced off compounds, and then you'll have to finish it before you leave the compound...sounds good to me;)
Sandown has had a no alcohol through the gate policy for at least the last 5 years...

Event organisers have set back the start of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama by 30 minutes, allowing for a special on-track celebration of the event’s 45 years.
The race will now start at 10.30am instead of 10.00am which in turn allows for viewers in South Australia and particularly Western Australia a more practical viewing time for the pre-race build-up and race start.

Problem with the alcohol restrictions is that no-one really seems to know what the correct rules are
The latest bit on the official Supercheap 1000 site has campers at Reid Sulman being able to drink their BYO alcohol in the viewing areas up top of the mountain, this comes after the other update that said campers could only drink their alcohol within their campsites
The one carton per person per entry into the campgrounds sounds a lot more reasonable than what initially seemed to be proposed but it would be good if all concerned could get their stories correct to minimize problems when entering the campgrounds in a few weeks time

Seriously though once the cars hit the track most people go trackside to watch and drink (although the last bit will seemingly be a little more restricted from now on)

The "official" line as per the supercheap auto bathurst 1000 website is -"reasonable amount will be considered as 1 case of standard drinks per person" , this is still a bit of a grey area 1 case per person per day or for the whole event ???? if they are working on the 1 case per entry theory they are forcing mountaintop racefans to drink drive as i very much doubt that there would be many designated drivers up top & i dont think 1 carton would last half of the mongrel mob up there half a day (the organisers are really trying to stuff this great event-bring on the burnouts & fireworks) if they try hard enough to pi55 people off enough the cops may need their brand spanking new water cannon !

It's one case per person PER ENTRY to the campgrounds so the way I read that is that everytime you come back up to the campgrounds you are allowed the limit again (although I guess as the race week progresses they will cut this back a little)
I'm interested as to how the RBT's inside the campgrounds are going to work, with only the one access road for the majority of the campgrounds they surely can't block off the road to perform the tests and if they do where do they put the cars of those caught over the limit as they have to be kept in a safe place

I get a 4 day at Bathurst as the paddock is only 100 mtrs from our camp and can come and go anytime. I usually have more success talking to teams/drivers when the crowds have dispersed for the day, plus a few of the drivers have campervans in the paddock.

Last year we just bought our entry ticket at the gate when we got to the camping ground on the Wednesday, which provided us access to both the spectator area & camping grounds....I would assume that this year would be no different.
When you factor in the charges charged for pre-buying ticket online or over a counter at ticketek etc (at a slightly discounted price), it's usually only about $1 to $2 dearer to buying it there at the track, which is what I do & there's no hassle :D
