We have a few Bathurst Winners released so far (9) with a few more to be rumoured next year(3 I think).
I was thinking that it would be great to add the little mini of Raunp Aaltonen and Bob Holden next to the big Holdens and Fords already released... I wonder how far down the track (no pun intended :)) until we see this car released?

Sweeeet thanks Admin! This will look great mixed in with the other Bathurst Winners. Thanks!
Now I can cancel my plans for modifying a Morris Cooper S.
What scales are planned for this model admin?

This is great news - I love these little cars! I have quite a few of the Vitesse 1/43, & have been itching to get the larger scale. I bought a 1/18 white Kyosho earlier in the year, but the paint was blistered/bubbled (as was the whole batch apparently) & had to be returned.
Bring them on:D

Admin,
Projected release for the Aaltonen/ Holden driven Mini Cooper S 1966 Bathurst winner as of November 2002 was for the second quarter of 2003.
Can we expect to see these soon ?
I think one of these will look great as part of a collection of Aussie models and help preserve a piece of history.

In 1/43 too, pleease, pleease. All my other Bathurst-Winners are in 1/43.
Theres a pic of the actual model up on the website now. Looks great, its going to look different with something other than a holden, ford or val in cabinet.

New pic on site of the 1966 Mini. The green looks a lot lighter than the previous pic.I've only ever seen black and white pics of the actual car so I assume this was the correct colour.
Looking forward to having something different in my Bathurst winners collection, that's for sure.:)
Cheers,
Tony.

The colour is Castrol Green and was chosen for the original car by Bob Holden. As they weren't allowed to show sponsor logos, and Castrol were involved with the project, they used Castrol Green on the car.
Bob has been a great help in developing this model and will be signing all of the certificates.

OK, this is interesting. I have the Vanguards 1/43 version, which I've been told has an incorrect "standard" grille, instead of a slatted "Cooper S" grille. Also, on the passenger side mine has the "13" below the rear window & the "C" on the door. Biante's is reversed. Anyone have pics? Oh, & my green is much darker, more a BRG. But I'm prepared to believe that a Pommy Company could stuff that up!:D

Sorry, I messed that up a little. What I meant by the grille thing was that the Biante version also has a standard grille rather than a slatted one, so maybe Vanguards got it right? Also, my Mini sits next to a Sebring MGB which IS BRG, almost identical in colour to my Mini.:o

You are right the Biante Mini has the wrong grille, I wonder what tyres it has on, should be racing slicks.

I would say a tad early for racing slicks on open wheelers, let alone production touring cars..................

Most of the Coopers were running R7 Dunlop racing tyres it was the first time racing tyres had been run at Bathurst.

I don't know if these photos will work but looking at the 850 and Cooper grille, there are 7 vertical "rungs" and the horizontal rungs look closer together.
The model... and the Mini Deluxe and Cooper S grille has 2 centred vertical supports behind the slats and the slats are wider apart.
I am assuming though it has 2 petrol tanks?

Theres a pic on the "Autopics" site "http://www.autopics.com.au/cache/item-646public.html?cache=no" of the Aaltonen/Holden Cooper S
Compared to the Autopics photo (and my fading memory :-)) the photo on the Biante website the Biante model seems to have the wrong grille. Hope this gets fixed before the models release, but i'll still buy it anyway.

OK, hate to be a spoilsport but the Autopics piccy has a different grille. It has the horizontal "slatted" grille with no visible vertical bars. Also, the Autopics one has no orange dots on the roof. Neither does the 1/43 Vanguards version. Hopefully these are just "proto-type" errors?

OK I give up.
I think the grille is right, only the uprights should be hidden behind the fins but whats with the dots on the roof.
The Vanguards model is so wrong its not funny. Its got sliding windows and 1 petrol tank!!
I think its time for Richard or Nathan to put us in the picture so to speak.
I thought I would resurrect this thread after talking to the Biante Muscle Car Series guys at Clipsal.
I wanted to clear up a few questions I had regarding the 1966 Mini Cooper S. I had noticed the cars they were racing had 1 petrol tank and sliding windows. There was an Austin Cooper S in there as well.
From my understanding the cars represented in the Muscle car series are based on the British versions of the Morris Copper s (sliding windows and 1 tank) where-as the Australian and Bathurst version has 2 tanks and wind-up windows. The grille's are the same being wide crome horizontal fins. You cannot see the 2 vertical inside supports. The Austin Cooper S how-ever has a narrow horizontal fin and the 2 vertical inside supports are visible.
Looking at the model displayed in "find a model" it is possible this car has the Austin Cooper S grille.

Nathan or Richard
Can I/we have assurance this model will be true to it's original Bathurst specs.

BB, I think you've got that exactly right. However, going on past experience, you might have to PM the "powers that be" directly to get some attention. Hopefully these are just prototype errors, it'd be a shame to see the mistakes of past 1/43s (Corgi & Vanguards) repeated in 1/18. Particularly when the pics are right there on Autopics - slatted grille as you've described it, twin tanks & no dots on the roof. :)

The model does have the correct grille. Consider the thickness of the horizontal slats on the grille. The two verticle bars behind the horizontal slats are there purely for support as without them the grille would pretty much implode. The car also has two fuel fillers as per the real car. It also has the three dots on the roof, as per the real car.
As I have said before, Bob Holden has worked very closely with us to ensure this model is being produced correctly. He is extremely happy with how it has turned out in all respects.

Now, don't go off the planet as I'm not trying to start (another) fight but I think we're still talking about two DIFFERENT grilles. I've just been back to Autopics & the pic they have there clearly shows the later "slatted" grille on this car & NO-NIL-NIX dots on the roof. The grille on your model seems to be the earlier "mesh" grille with the vertical supports actually part of the grille. If you've ever seen one of the slatted versions in the metal, of course they have vertical supports, but the point is that they are INVISIBLE from the front - the slats are angled downward (like a venetian blind) to hide them & are much wider. As for the dots, if the pic I'm going off is pre-race day & they were added for the race, then go for it. The colour I can't comment on as I've only ever seen B & W pics. But, please, from someone who's scraped knuckles on both these grilles & Clubmans as well, take a fresh look.

Look at photo 66737, even the orange dots on the bonnet almost disappear into the white horizontal stripes, there is no way you can say with any certainty there are no dots on the roof from those black and white images.

The grille is basically correct. 7 horizontal vanes as per the real car. As I mentioned before the two verticle supports are there as without them the grille would collapse (it wouldn't eject from the mould). Also, the prototype mini in this picture is the first sample we received and as such has many other details which are incorrect.

I had a prototype here and placed it in the correct place/order in my cabinet together with the 1974 and 1979 winners, Man does it make a difference and does the Mini stand out in the V8 and hairdryer powered collection.
Now the waiting is for the now empty space to be filled with my own model.
Even the Box is cute that the Mini comes in.
Should be popular, so better (pre)order one from your fav. retail outlet.

It's correct scale but as I havent seen an old mini (1/1) for so long I'd almost forgotten how small they really are.Shows what a tough little car it was though being flogged around Bathurst for 7 hours!
Cheers,
Tony.
P.S.monarocveightz,I'm looking forward to the VK SS GroupA in Formula Blue.

Being that the dayglo is a very popular 'I want', one of the other grp C Commodes may be released first to generate more sales. There are a few grp C ones I would like as well as the 6 HDT versions.

Got mine today, gee its small cant get over that they flogged this thing around the mountain for 7 hrs on skinny little tyres. Would have been a great site seeing them bump draft each other down conrod straight
I have shots of it in my webshots album next to a Monaro if any one is interested in looking at the size of it.

The bonnet and doors open but by the looks of it the boot doesnt. I didnt really want to try and prize it open.
The little black strap on the bonnet actually lifts off so that you can lift the bonnet up which i think is nice touch.

I knew you collected a few fords, just the extent of your collection. Top
job;) However, i didnt see any chargers in there:)
I also have a similar problem with themes. Yes, I have mainly early fords. XR,XT,XW,XY,XA,XB,XC Race cars. I only have 1 current V8 supercar. Not enough space for a Supercar theme.
I do however have a few race chargers. No holdens yet:o was hoping to get Brocky's A9X just b4 the price invasion started. Guess i missed the boat on that one.

Is this model (the mini) 1/18 or 1/87th as stated in emails and on the Biante site ????
Picked it up this morning. It is the 1:18. Must have changed the scale when adding more on Friday afternoon.

No the boot doesn't open, the doors and bonnet open, shame about the boot but then again I was'nt planning on displaying it with anything open anyway.

I received my Mini today and I think it looks great. I was surprised to see that there are no screws holding the model into the styrofoam box; in fact I actually dropped the model getting it out of the box, but fortunately there is no damage. Is this the first Biante model with no screws?

As for size comparisons I have the 1/43 version & it looks little sitting beside the Bathurst Cortinas. Even more marked though, is my Monaco Mini sitting beside the London/Sydney XR Falcon. It's TINY in comparison.:)

I got mine today, a bit weary of the strap holding the bonnet down. Im not temped to open the bonnet incase I brake something but I heard and saw pic of the engine and its not much to look at and I wasn't planning to display it with the bonnet open anyway. Its so little but its become my little baby compared to my V8 Supercars.

i prized mine off with a toothpick it came off allright but i wouldnt do it too often and it most likely would harden bit with age... my twin su were lying down in amongst the suspension didnt appear to have ever been glued to the manifold so i stuck em in the box closed the bonnet up and found a space in the display cabinet for it.. I usually keep the bonnets closed anyway...
