View Full Version : Moffatt Mustang......again

Having read all the previous forum traffic on the controversial US release of the Moffatt Mustang, I was quite surprised to find something new. It seems there are three versions at least being offered in the US. There seems to be a #1 car and a #9 car, both with no mention of Moffatt. These particular cars are listed on the website www.sportcraftcars.com There is also another version offered by www.exoticar.com , which seems to be a #9 car with the "Allan Moffatt Racing" graphics, but no "Coke" sponsorship. The only one I have seen in the flesh is the #1 car, so I can't confirm the existance of the others, but as I understood it, this was the only authorised version. Anyone have any news?

I've found the #9 car, but how on earth did you find the #1 car on that website. I've been searching for well over 30 minutes & i still can't find it. Could you please post a direct link to it or please tell me what it is located under so that I can think about ordering it.
cheers.

If you look closely there are three variations and prices:-
1)Exoticar has No 9 with "Allan Moffat" @ $45.00 - No Coke decals
2) Sportscraft has No 9 WITHOUT the "Allan Moffat" & Coke decals at $60.00
3) Sprtscraft also have the No 1 car @ $50.00

Hi,
is the only difference between the moffat mustang at exoticar and the one available out here, the missing Coke signage? or is there more differences?
Thanks:cool:

thanks bathurstfan
http://www.exoticar.com/pages/search_products_2.cf m
understandably alan moffat will be less popular stateside than here and there may be a decal or 2 missing but that is some price difference. the ad makes reference to its LE (500 pieces) so you would imagine it comes with signed COA.....US$44.95
at the current exchange rate...56.06
that equates to $80.18 australian versus $299 at hot memorabilia
another thing, hot memorabilia advertised in the press the release of the brut 33 mustang for october and are taking preorder payments
todate i havent seen this model....anyone got any indicative news on that one.
the company concerned and mr moffat will upset more than a few fans if this is the way business is conducted.

Does anyone have the Website address for Hot Memorabilia so we can see if the "new" Brut 33 car is on there?

and no the brut 33 is not on there.
Does anyone have the US version, because for $100 or so it surely is worth getting instead of paying $300 for the Australian release. They look indentical except for the coke decals which can easily be applied (like winfield, camel filters, marlboro)...

Pictures of the Brut 33 Mustang can be found in this weeks Auto Action, I would probably buy it for $80 bucks but they can keep it for the $299 their asking even though i have the first one.

I'm with you oldxr, as I too bought the first one, but as for any more, I simple can't justify such a high price for a model which is far from worth the money.
Now it was priced more near the price of a Biante 1:18, then I wouldn't think twice & I'd buy it, but $299 + p&h ?
Who are they trying to kid ?

I've got the Allan Moffat version and two of the #1 North American version. I'm using the second as a parts car for a Chaparral Camaro 1970 Trans Am racer. Here's a link for comparison shots of the two versions.http://community.webshots.com/user/bv343
It's in the Welly Mustang album.

I've received this e-mail from diecastmuscle today:
"Welly has just announced #W1969BL 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am Racer. It is blue with race number #29. It will also have some other miscellaneous small race sponsor markings.
This is the follow up release to the highly sought after red #1 car. That car was a near instant sell out.
There will be 1800 of the Blue #29 cars produced with release slated for mid to late January. Sorry no picture yet."

brchi17,
I'll post something if I get an e-mail update from one of the US vendors. Truth be told, even at $45US suggested price, Welly's Trans AM is not a particularly enticing model. It's nowhere near similarly priced offerings from AutoArt or even $20US Maisto's 1965 Corvette.

I saw a prototype of the Brutt 33 Mustang today at Games World.
To be honest, apart from the paint (& slightly flaired guards) there is very little changes between that & the Coke version (I know there the same car).
It looks like they are really cashing in on this one, as the boot lid still doesn't open & the engine bay appears to remain unchanged from the 1st verions.
Not getting burnt by this one !!!!

brchi 17...what exactly do you want to put in the boot?
it may be unfortunate that the boot does not open but i compare more than favourably the presentation of the #9 model with the autoart mustang and i have preordered mine.
besides...broke a few hearts with that brut 33 splash on

terrine,
We all have our favorite models & this is obviously one of yours.
Please don't take my comments personally (as I'm sure you haven't), my beef is with the people who make this model & ask an abserd price for it. I mean, compared to a Biante model (spoken about this at length on other posts), for the money I would expect everything to open including the boot.
As I was not old enought to remember this model (born in 1976), it doesn't mean very much to me which is why I don't really appreciate it.
Now if they released a Dick Johnson EBII or similuar in the way in which the Moffat Mustangs have been released, then I would feel the same way you do about the Brutt 33 Mustang.
Each to their own I suppose.
cheers.

Hey guys don't order the Exoticar.com one if you expect to get something that is the same as in the image on their site (like I did)!
The car arrived today with no "Moffat Racing, BP, Goodyear or Ford logo on it. I was spewing so I called them and it went like this:
Him: "Oh the sponsors pulled out at the last minute.... so we couldn't put the sponsorship on them"
Me: "Well that is the model I ordered, the one in the picture that does not say "NO SPONSORSHIP STICKERS", not the one I got."
Him: "You can send it back"
Me: "You pay shipping?"
Him: "No that is not covered"
Me: "It is if I reject it with my Credit Card"
Him: "Very well if you have to"
Me: "Well I didn't get what I ordered"
Him: "Then send it back"
Me: "But I am out the shipping for something that is no fault of my own"
Him: "write that on it and we will cover the shipping then"
So there you have it. Photos at 11. Or later.

ZORAK,
So, I see EXOTICAR didn't change its ways despite its PR campaign on some boards. Actually, you got lucky in a sense that you got the "somewhat correct" model. On more than a few occasions EXOTICAR substituted the item one ordered with BBurago. Other times, the advertised items never seem to be in stock. In sum, don't order anything from EXOTICAR, especially if the international shipping is involved. ZORAK, also please get your Credit Card company involved as soon as possible because there is a "time limit" (usually 60 days from the date of purchase) on filing a complaint.
Best regards,
Sergey
P.S. One needs a decal sheet with proper logos to "correct" model anyway. Personally, I think that it doesn't matter what decals are already present. As a matter of fact, a plain red Mustang would make a better starting point.
just looking at shire models and found this http://www.shiremodels.com.au/cache/item-1373public.html?cache=no (www.shiremodels.com.au/cache/item-1373public.html?cache=no)

Okay I must have the plot a bit. I was seeing only red when the EXOTICAR arrived as it was not the same thing as I had ordered.
It came in a plain white box. Nothing at all on the outside.
The car does have the BP and Ford logo and the #9 but nothing related to Moffat.
Then again it was U$45 so I guess I will keep it, it looks good in the cabinet.

I would say Item Number would relate to product number not certificate or build number.
Limited means RESTRICTED
Edition means ONE OF A NUMBER OF PRESSINGS OF THE SAME or
ANY SIMILIAR FORM OR VERSION.(Macquarie Dictionary)
happy Terrine.
I still stand by what I asked. If a car is released with minor changes/improvements then why should it be restricted to one run and not released again.
It's acceptable to release for example a Bathurst release and a ATTCC release of the same car with only minor decal changes such as the addition of the 2nd drivers name.(Its still a similiar form or version)
Then why can't for example a car such as the Moffat 65e be re-released if improvements can be made (weren't some of the early releases missing some engine detail?).

I just received the latest red “Moffat Trans-am from the States (the red 9 ) from Exoticar. Landed cost in Australia was $85.12 AUD.
I now have all four so far. The “official car, the red “1, the red “9 and the new “Brut 33 and they look great together. The 1 & 9 car will undergo some extra work with signage and headlight and bonnet mods to make them more like the many photos of the different versions.
I am interested to see if the Brut 33 car comes out in the states later on, as a modified repainted version of this car will make a great Jim Ricards “Sidchrome Mustang

Moffat Fan
19-12-2002, 04:55 PM
That was it including postage. They took some off ( 10% tax) for export and added the postage. The figure I gave you is the AUD. on the Visa Statment.
BATHURSTFAN
19-12-2002, 06:12 PM
Well you did alright then, postage must have been cheap,
$85 AUS = $48.00 US
That makes it $7.50 US for postage / $13.30 AUS
Car $45 US less 10% = $40.50 US / $72.00 AUS
MUCH BETTER THAN $300
I was just curious on postage because a mate & i got two 1/18 Revell Rusty Wallace Ford Taurus' NASCARS last year and it cost $40.00 AUS for postage for the two cars. They were heavy though, on a base etc.
I got them from Prostar2Collectables, my mate has gone back since a few times, he loves those NASCARS.
I don't recall a tax exemption either.

Picked UP the BRUTT 33 at lunch time today, looks good but I'm dissapointed that the wheels are only painted in silver frost instead of chrome spray,
I agree with you lot that it isn't worth the $314 you have to pay for it but then again I did pay $550 for Moffat's 65 E and what is a Moffat Ford collection with out it.
I've got every other Ford he raced so far, 3 of some of them, and to not have the Brutt 33 is to not have a complete set in the future maybe !.I won't be buying the under coat grey version because it has no significent value to me or for that matter anyone else I believe, HOT MEMOROBILIA should do themselves a favour and cancel any ideas of producing this model in Australia.
I don't know what arrangements Moffat has with them but it must of cost them a packet or two to get producing rights for these models when others can get the same cars (void a few decals) in America for a third of the price .
Unfortunately for me, I'm not certain that any one else will be producing these cars in the near future at a cheeper price, although many trax models of Moffat and other great racing drivers cars have been produced by other suppliers such as Biante and I might add superior in quality too which has brought down the price and demand of trax models I just hope that the price I have had to pay for a slice of Australian Motor Racing History doesn't depreciate beyond the purchase price.
So in that sence it may or may not be worth the $314 , there would of been a fair few wingers who thought a white twin mirrored xy was to dear too at around $165 .

Peter,
In the US, there are no universal GST like in Australia. The prices listed from any US vendor are pre-tax ones. Each individual state has its own sales tax. So far, on internet purchases no tax is being levied for out of state or export orders. One just pays the item's price plus shipping. As for shpping charge to Australia, it seems in line with UPS, USPS or FedEx shipping rates which are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than those of Australia Post.
As for dealing with EXOTICAR, if you get the item that you've ordered AND undamaged consider yourself lucky.

Price: $44.95
i now have the model and shipping invoice at hand.

the model was dispatched same day 2/12/02...good
i did recieve a 10% credit on the sale price to US$40.46
this equated to $74.15 australian....thats fair
the shipping charge was US$30.......
thats $55 australian (insert expletive here)
those figures are based on my credit card charges.

as ZORAK did, i recieved the plain white box with no COA and the missing decals on the welly model, all as per his photos prior on this thread...very dissapointing....... blatant misrepresentation

Hello guys,
The cheapest freight rate for air mail for a single 1:18 sent from Australia to the US is $30AUD. That's what Biante charges, Gateway Models charges zero for postage if the order is above $200AUD, but Gateway doesn't subtract Australian GST for export orders. Also, I've bought Gradner's Coca Cola Commodore VT on www.sold.com.au from the New Zeland seller "Cosworth.sold", and he charged me $16US for shipping.
Other sellers whom I'm contacted quoted me a postge rate of $40AUD to $45AUD for a single model. As usual, Traffic Toys came on top with a rate of $40US(!) for air freight for a single model.
Generally speaking, if I have to go "overseas" to get some models I usually buy them from Australia (even 1:43s) because high European postage rates wipe out any potential savings.

Sergey

Berkut try www.australiapost.com.au TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA ON WHAT YOU SHOULD BE PAYING.
I know some books I got off ebay the postage prices varied greatly, it sometimes depends on what they use to send the item in, ie if they add the price of the box/satchel to the actual postage cost or whether they use some old cardboard to make a parcel.
