  • Can't believe 5 lives were lost by people trying to drive cross flooded roads. It was on the radio, t.v over and over DO NOT CROSS FLOODED ROADS and still these people do it... Just stupidity.. This so annoys me whenever it rains people have to get rescued. I think its about time people got fined heavily for putting the people who rescue them lives at risk as well.

We had 3.5, 73.5 and 116 over the last 3 days.

it was on other radio the whole time we had our storms and floods last week down here DO ONOT CROSS LOODED ROADS as well, and we still lost 6 people I think. every big storm there are people who think they are better than mother nature but she is a non forging force. the part about fining people is something that has to be considered, what if a rescuer looses his life trying to save someone stupid ?...... not fair on his family or team.

          • If I made the rules they would be big fines and if they caused the death of a rescuer it would be manslaughter..

            • Interesting concept fordmad, manslaughter for causing the death of a volunteer or paid service provider to save someone due to unforeseen circumstances or there own stupidity.

Thinking the only winners out of that would be the Lawyers.

              • All of those deaths should not have happened. Those 2 cars that went off the bridge were stopped and told that the bridge was flooded but kept going.. That makes me angry..

                • Totally agree, Off topic here, I've got 5 kids try and teach them right from wrong, if they listen it's a bonus, if not oh well you tried.

I ain't stressing, unless it adversely affects me.

For example 17 year old brought a car, within three days lost 3 points and smashed the passengers side door in hitting a pole , tried to help him, second hand door from the wreckers, frigging door is still sitting here a month later. Excuse, I can't be without a car for a few days to fix the sill panel, fit the door

Get that god dam door off my patio I say.

                    • Condolence to those families that have lost loved ones.

But I can't understand why people drive through flood water's. Especially when you don't even no if the road is still there.

I did it once and that was under a RFS (Rural Fire Service) escort, it was scary as you can't see the road. There was only 6" of water over the road.

Hope all you guys are safe.

Worst thing I got was a leaking roof which lead to a ceiling collapse.

                      • The old man was telling me a story this morning about trains and flooding from FNQ ( Burdekin, Babinda, Tully), apparently back in the day with the introduction of diesel/electric locomotives they didn't like water over the tracks because of the positioning of the motors etc, so to make things happen they got the old steam loco's out of decommission to tow them over flooded tracks / bridges.

Fact or fiction, he is adamant

                        • Could be true, Diesel electric have diesel generators to provide electric motors with mumbo so the electric motors are probably close to track level.

                          • Anyone near this?

Rural fire crews are keeping a close watch on an out-of-control fire in the NSW Blue Mountains, which could threaten homes with strong winds predicted.
